Locked In And Locked Out: A Migrant Woman’S Reflection On Life In Australia During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Olivera Simic

Journal of International Women's Studies

In this paper I offer personal reflections on life in Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic. I reflect on what it means for a migrant woman with a complex traumatic past to be indefinitely stranded. I also draw on experiences of other migrant women living in Australia during the pandemic. The reflection brings attention to personal narratives that contribute to the growing importance of women’s herstories. With this narrative, I want to pay tribute to migrant women’s lives and by using my own experiences as a case study to reflect on personal struggles that the COVID-19 pandemic triggered. The issues of …

Evolutionary Simulation Of Medical Products Export Safety Supervision Considering Regulation Of Importing Country, Xiaoli Li, Cejun Cao, Fanshun Zhang Sep 2021

Evolutionary Simulation Of Medical Products Export Safety Supervision Considering Regulation Of Importing Country, Xiaoli Li, Cejun Cao, Fanshun Zhang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: In order to investigate the impacts of the regulation of importing country on export safety supervision regarding medical products in the COVID-19 epidemic situation, an evolutionary game model considering the relation between export enterprise and supervision of government is constructed. Based on MATLAB simulation, the influences of different factors including regulation level of importing country, punishment mechanism on export safety supervision of medical products are analyzed. Results show that the illegal behaviors of the export enterprises of medical products can be restrained when the regulation level of importing country reaches a certain threshold. But that would fuel the passively …

The Meaning Of Rebo Buntung For Pringgabaya Villager, East Lombok During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Dharmika Ida Bagus, Gede Yoga Kharisma Pradana Dr.

The Qualitative Report

Rebo Buntung is a Sasak cultural tradition performed on the island of Lombok in Indonesia, primarily aimed at preventing disasters. Although the government warned people in Lombok to engage in social distancing and to reduce activities outside to reduce the risk of infection associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Rebo Buntung was carried out by Sasak people amid the pandemic. This purpose of this paper is to describe results from qualitative research, framed within religious theory and structural-functional theory, that explore the meaning of Rebo Bunting in the village of Pringgabaya, East Lombok and its role during the COVID-19 Pandemic. With limited COVID-19-guidelines for institutions of higher education (IHEs), colleges and universities began the 2020–2021 academic year with varying approaches. We present a comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and mitigation approach at a residential university during the 2020–2021 academic year, along with campus SARS-CoV-2 transmission during this time. Risk management of COVID-19 was facilitated through (1) a layered approach of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention measures; (2) a robust committee structure leveraging institutional public health expertise; (3) partnerships with external health entities; and (4) an operations system providing both structure and flexibility to adapt to changes in disease activity, scientific evidence, and …

Perceived Weight Gain And Eating Disorder Symptoms Among Lgbtq+ Adults During The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Convergent Mixed-Method Study, Jennifer Tabler, Rachel M. Schmitz, Ruby Charak, Eliza Dickinson

Psychological Science Faculty Publications

Background: In this study, we further explore the role of COVID-19 pandemic-related stress, social support, and resilience on self-reported eating disorder symptoms (using the EDE-QS) and perceived weight gain among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer (LGBTQ+ adults) in the US context during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Employing a convergent mixed method design, we surveyed 411 individuals, and conducted qualitative semi-structured follow-up interviews with 43 LGBTQ+ -identifying survey respondents. Using OLS regression and multinomial logistic regression, we modeled eating disorder symptoms and perceived weight gain among LGBTQ+ individuals (n = 120) and cisgender and heterosexual-identifying women (n = 230), to …

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the mine action sector globally. In this article, the authors look at how the pandemic has affected Colombia, specifically concentrating on how the pandemic has affected humanitarian demining (HD)-related activities. To do so, the Swiss Foundation for Demining (FSD) compared key HD indicators from 2019 to 2020 in order to evaluate the performance of HD operations in Colombia, and carried out an assessment among HD organizations (HDOs) operating in-country through the Quick Impact Survey on COVID-19 Impact on Humanitarian Operations. Moreover, the authors provide an example of community service activities and …

Black men who have sex with men (BMSM) living in the United States (U.S.) South are disproportionately affected by HIV and experience significant disparities in HIV incidence, access to HIV care, and prevention across ages and socio-economic statuses. The aim of this commentary is to critically review current literature on the state of PrEP use among BMSM in the U.S. South, including identifying barriers and facilitators to PrEP use in order to inform intervention development. Extant literature shows that despite the documented benefits of PrEP as an effective HIV-prevention method, its uptake among BMSM is limited across the U.S. South. …

Emergency Medicine And Covid-19: Now And Next Year, Theodore A. Christopher, Adrienne N. Christopher

Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Papers

The COVID-19 pandemic is responsible for infecting to date more than 93 million people worldwide and causing more than 2 million deaths. That the vast majority of deaths have occurred in the United States (U.S.) can be attributed to nonadherence by Americans to basic public health mitigation strategies that are known to curtail coronavirus spread. Emergency Departments (ED’s) throughout the U.S. experienced a dramatic decrease in patient visits during the first surge of COVID-19, followed by an ED patient visit rebound to approximately 80% of pre-COVID-19 numbers, which have remained relatively stable through the current second COVID-19 surge. The pandemic …

Covid-19 Exposures And Health Alerts (9/6/2021- 9/12/2021), Georgia Southern University

Covid-19 Pandemic: News & Publications (Archived)

The report below shows an anticipated rise in confirmed and self-reported cases after completion of the second full week of classes on our campuses. As an institution of nearly 27,000 students and 3,350 employees, positive reports represent a very small proportion of our overall university population. These cases are primarily concentrated within the student population on the Statesboro campus. While we have been pleased with how the university community is complying with public health guidelines on our campuses, we must remain vigilant in our efforts if we want to continue the semester as we have started.

Temporal Geospatial Analysis Of Covid-19 Pre-Infection Determinants Of Risk In South Carolina, Tianchu Lyu, Nicole Hair, Nicholas Yell, Zhenlong Li, Shan Qiao Ph.D., Xiaoming Li Ph.D. Sep 2021

Temporal Geospatial Analysis Of Covid-19 Pre-Infection Determinants Of Risk In South Carolina, Tianchu Lyu, Nicole Hair, Nicholas Yell, Zhenlong Li, Shan Qiao Ph.D., Xiaoming Li Ph.D.

Faculty Publications

Disparities and their geospatial patterns exist in morbidity and mortality of COVID-19 patients. When it comes to the infection rate, there is a dearth of research with respect to the disparity structure, its geospatial characteristics, and the pre-infection determinants of risk (PIDRs). This work aimed to assess the temporal-geospatial associations between PIDRs and COVID-19 infection at the county level in South Carolina. We used the spatial error model (SEM), spatial lag model (SLM), and conditional autoregressive model (CAR) as global models and the geographically weighted regression model (GWR) as a local model. The data were retrieved from multiple sources including …
