Chloroquine (CQ) and its analog hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) were recently included in several clinical trials as potential prophylactic and therapeutic options for SARS-COV-2 infection/covid-19. However, drug effectiveness in preventing, treating, or slowing the progression of the disease is still unknown. Despite some initial promising in vitro results, rigorous pre-clinical animal studies and randomized clinical trials have not been performed yet. On the other hand, while the potential effectiveness of CQ/HCQ is, at best, hypothetical, their side effects are factual and most worrisome, particularly when considering vulnerable groups of patients being treated with these drugs. in this comment, we briefly explain the …

Elizabeth “Liz” Mishler has worked as Administrative Assistant to the Enterprise Chair of Surgery, Charles J. Yeo, MD, FACS, since December 2017. During the COVID-19 outbreak, she took on an additional role: “Chief Zoom Officer” for the Department of Surgery.

“When COVID happened and everyone had to scramble, I quickly taught myself how to use Zoom,” Mishler says. “We’ve been using it for anything that used to be a meeting or a phone call. Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has offered telemedicine through the JeffConnect® service since 2015. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the service averaged 40 to 60 scheduled daily visits. During the pandemic, it reached more than 3,000 per day system wide – giving patients and providers firsthand experience with this method of care delivery.

The webpage was obtained from Michigan's Coronavirus Cumulative Data page, under the link Data About Places. Data is self-reported by hospitals daily to the EM Resource System per MDHHS Director Robert Gordon's Emergency Order.

Contains the tables Statewide Available Bed Tracking for COVID-19, COVID-19 Metrics, Statewide Available PPE Tracking for COVID-19 (Statewide Available PPE and Bed Tracking), as well as the tables PPE Days On Hand and Patient Census.

This report is provisional and subject to change. City of Detroit and Wayne County are reported separately. MDHHS began tracking probable cases April 5, 2020. FCI indicates federal correctional institute. MDOC indicates Michigan Department of Corrections. Diagnostic tests, including nucleic acid amplification/real-time polymerase chain reaction (NAAT/RT-PCR) and rapid virus antigen detection point of care (POC) tests, look for current infection. Serology (antibody) tests are used to look for the possibility of previous infection.

However, the 14-day incident rate has recently begun increasing in several rural counties that have high prevalence of several chronic health conditions that increase risk of severe complications and death from COVID-19.
