This study quantifies the transmission potential of SARS-CoV-2 across public health districts in Georgia, USA, and tests if per capita cumulative case count varies across counties. To estimate the time-varying reproduction number, Rt of SARS-CoV-2 in Georgia and its 18 public health districts, we apply the R package ‘EpiEstim’ to the time series of historical daily incidence of confirmed cases, 2 March–15 December 2020. The epidemic curve is shifted backward by nine days to account for the incubation period and delay to testing. Linear regression is performed between log10-transformed per capita cumulative case count and log10-transformed population size. We observe …

- This study aimed to assess outcomes and satisfaction among patients undergoing outpatient endoscopic procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Identifying the rates of COVID-19 symptom development and post procedure testing would provide critical information on patient safety
- Assessment of patient experiences would serve as a guide for potential areas of improvement
- We predicted that with proper protocols in place, outpatient endoscopy was a safe and positive experience

Master of Occupational Therapy Student Critically Appraised Topics
The purpose of our critically appraised topic is to synthesize the best current evidence regarding interventions that would be effective in reducing delirium in patients with COVID-19 in the acute care setting. The final portfolio contains a total of five research articles. Study designs include three randomized controlled trials, one non randomized controlled trial, and one quasi-experimental quantitative design. All studies relate directly to interventions within the OT scope of practice and were implemented in the acute care setting. Due to limited research on the novel coronavirus, these findings apply to critically ill patients but are not specific to patients …

Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk
Substance use has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadly combination of a national epidemic and a global pandemic has led to widening health disparities, increased psychological trauma, physical trauma, and grief that will likely persist over the next decade or more. This literature synthesis addresses key findings regarding the prevention, assessment, and treatment of substance use during the COVID-19 pandemic, negative sequelae associated with public health recommendations during the pandemic and a forecast for the future. An example of how grassroots community organizations can rapidly pivot to ensure clients’ needs are being met is also provided. Policy implications of …

The Disproportionate Impact Of Covid-19 On Women, Ava Stallone

The impact of COVID-19 is placing a large strain on women. This can be seen through reports of mental health and financial concerns. Women are more vulnerable to COVID-19 related economic effects due to existing gender inequalities, which in turn may also have a negative effect on mental health. Through this study gender disproportion is looked at between mental health and COVID-19 financial concerns among women and men. The aim is to asses how COVID-19 financial concerns may be contributing to stress, anxiety, and depression. It is hypothesized that; women will report worse mental health and greater economic concerns than …

Growth of the information economy and globalization of labor markets will be marked by exponential growth in emerging technologies that will cause considerable disruption of the social and economic sectors that drive the global job market. These disruptions will alter the way we work, where we work, and will be further affected by the changing demographic characteristics and level of training of the available workforce. These changes will likely result in scenarios where existing workplace hazards are exacerbated and new hazards with unknown health effects are created. The pace of these changes heralds an urgent need for a proactive approach …

In December, the outbreak of a new Corona virus disease called as Covid-19 in China triggered the infection and deaths of many including medical personnel. The disease is extremely infectious since in extreme cases it can be fatal and there are no specific medications. Being the front line workers this poses a huge risk to the lives and welfare of nurses and has a significant effect on their emotional reactions and coping with strategies. This study would also explore emotional reactions and coping with styles for nursing students. A famous parameter that motivated people to practice protective behaviour either directly …

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected over 165 million people and caused the death of 3.4 million worldwide (up to May 20, 2021) (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html), becoming a serious problem of global public health and the worst epidemic in the last century, after the pandemic 1918 influenza. Researchers worldwide are trying to find valuable drugs against the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Some of them focused as antivirals, others targeted in other ways (e.g. immunomodulation) to relieve the symptoms of the infected patients and help lower the death toll throughout the world. Unfortunately, there is a lack of …
