On February 27, 2015, Prewitt and Associates, Inc. conducted an archeological survey for proposed improvements along West Borgfeld Drive from Timberline Drive to Blanco Road in Bexar County, Texas. The project will reconstruct West Borgfeld Drive from two lanes to four lanes. These improvements will take place within the existing 86-ft-wide right of way of West Borgfeld Drive and comprise a horizontal Area of Potential Effects (APE) of ca. 20 acres. The survey was required by the City of San Antonio (COSA) in compliance with the COSA Unified Development Code (UDC) Chapter 35.

Covering an area of 40.36 acres (16.33 hectares), the project would improve localized flooding within the 100-year floodplain by creating overflow channels, and in some locations, by deepening and widening the existing channel bottom. The northern boundary of the project area is the South Alamo Street Bridge, and the southern boundary is the confluence with Apache-Alazán Creek. This report documents the archaeological excavation of a prehistoric, burned wattle and daub domestic structure dating between 4830–5060 BP at site 41BX256, located along the San Antonio River in Bexar County, Texas. The feature is described as a large, U-shaped mass of fired clay measuring about 2 meters (m) in diameter at a depth of 70 centimeters below the modern ground surface (cmbs). It was discovered through remote sensing and was archaeologically tested in 2006 and it was later fully excavated in 2008. During the survey, 85 shovel tests were excavated and sites 41BX1792, 41BX1793, 41BX1794, and 41BX1795 were identified and recorded. Two of the sites possessed prehistoric components (41BX1792 and 41BX1793). A total of 122 shovel tests were excavated within the project area on a modified 10 x 10 m grid. In addition to the shovel tests, four 50 x 50 cm units and one 50 x 100 cm test unit were excavated to gain more information of certain areas.
