Traversée De L'Angoisse Et Poétique De L'Espoir Chez Malika Mokeddem, Margot Miller

Présence Francophone: Revue internationale de langue et de littérature

Psychological detachment is often presented as an exile from which there is no return. The works of Malika Mokeddem illustrate the lack of social support for psychic space of the individual who passes through anxiety and ends in psychological detachment. This article proposes to show, in L 'interdite and N'zid, how Mokeddem affirms nevertheless hope for recovery from this state. It also demonstrates the link between hope and mobility of the body, as well as of words, which must cross the spaces of anxiety in order to find community and the "inestimable freedom" (L'interdite, p. 132) that support and permit …

Law, Self-Pollution, And The Management Of Social Anxiety, Geoffrey P. Miller Jan 2001

Law, Self-Pollution, And The Management Of Social Anxiety, Geoffrey P. Miller

Michigan Journal of Gender & Law

This article considers the anxieties about masturbation and spermatorrhoea from the standpoint of cultural-legal analysis. Seen from this perspective, the worries about masturbation provided an object onto which social anxieties could be displaced and thereby managed. Norm entrepreneurs who played on public fears manipulated basic cultural polarities in order to present masturbation and spermatorrhoea as objects of horror and disgust-things that needed to be expelled, if possible, from the body social.

Trait Anxiety As A Moderator Of Problem Structuring Effects On Solution Generation, Judith A. Wightman

Student Work

This study investigated the effects of problem structuring and anxiety on the quantity and quality of solutions generated for ill-structured, complex problems. Trait anxiety, the tendency to feel anxious across a wide variety of situations, has been shown to impair problem solving performance in certain conditions. Trait anxiety was examined as a possible moderator of the relationship between problem structuring and solution generation. Participants were 184 undergraduate psychology students. Participants completed a trait anxiety measure (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory; Spielberger, 1983) and generated solutions to an ill-structured problem, with varying levels of structuring (no objectives, one-objective-at-a-time, conflicting objectives). The quantity and …
