The Alleged Contradiction Between Gen. 1:24-27 And 2:19, Alexander Heidel Sep 1941

The Alleged Contradiction Between Gen. 1:24-27 And 2:19, Alexander Heidel

Concordia Theological Monthly

The first chapter of Genesis, as every Bible student knows, has the animals made first and then man. But the second chapter is commonly held to reverse the order and to place the creation of man before that of the animals. This view is based upon the assumption that Gen. 2:18-25 constitutes a continuous piece of narrative and that the tense of the Hebrew verb with which v.19 opens therefore implies a sequence in the order of time, necessitating the following translation of v.19: "And so the Lord God formed out of the ground all the beast of the field …

Javma37-43 Anthrax In Swine, L. Van Es Jan 1937

Javma37-43 Anthrax In Swine, L. Van Es

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

Anthrax is not commonly considered so important a menace to swine as it is to other forms of live stock, in which the disease is apt to declare itself with terrifying severity. In comparison with the marked mortality frequently observed in cattle, the tangible losses caused by anthrax in swine seem negligible. As recent as 25 years ago, there still were observers who sincerely doubted the occurrence of the disease in hogs and this opinion found some support in the many reported failures to induce the infection in that animal species by artificial methods.

Rb28-229 Fattening Steers Of Various Ages, H.J. Gramlich Jan 1928

Rb28-229 Fattening Steers Of Various Ages, H.J. Gramlich

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

During recent years the beef industry has undergone vast changes. These have been made necessary in part by economic conditions and in part by changes in the demands of the American people. The tendency has been toward earlier marketing of steers, so that instead of going to the block as mature individuals at from 3 to 5 years of age, they are now reaching the market at a much younger age. In consuming centers where only heavy carcasses of beef were demanded formerly there is a call today for carcasses of the yearling and long yearling class.

The experiments reported …

Cause, Legal Cause And Proximate Cause. Ii, Albert Levitt Dec 1922

Cause, Legal Cause And Proximate Cause. Ii, Albert Levitt

Michigan Law Review

The problem connected with finding a passive situation to be a proximate cause is very different from that connected with finding an active force as a proximate cause. The reason for this difference is that the situation does nothing actively. It simply exists. Before it can contribute to an injury a force must be ejected from it or else the injured party must be brought, or bring himself, into contact with it. The situation never does; it just is. It is never an aggressor. Its contribution to any given injury is a passive contribution. The situation is usually created …
