In her July 3, 2013 interview with Martha Manning, Cynthia Burris Venables shares her experiences at Winthrop from 1985-1989, as well as her career teaching English. Discussed is Venables coursework as an English major and the rigor of her studies. Additionally, Venables talks about Latin and Biology courses and who her favorite professors were. Venables details what it is like teaching in the 21^st Century, her opinions on technology and teaching, and her accomplishments as an educator.

Since 1951 Eastern has offered advanced study

with master’s programming. Since that first

offering thousands of students have earned

graduate degrees, and EIU graduate alumni

have changed the world we live in. In 2005

EIU celebrated more than 50 years of graduate

education by honoring 50 graduate alumni

as Outstanding Graduate Alumni. That same

year the Graduate Alumni Advisory Board was

created and met for the first time. Since those

initial 50 honorees, the Graduate Alumni

Advisory Board, the Graduate School, and EIU’s

graduate programs have continued to honor

the achievements and accomplishments of our

graduate alumni every year.

Finding aid, scans of prisoner of war letters, and photo (For scans and photo click on "Additional Files") for Manuscripts Small Collection 444. Correspondence and documentation related to the military career of Kenneth Raymond Fleenor, a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, whose plane was shot down near Hanoi, Vietnam in 1967. A prisoner of war (POW) for over five years, Fleenor served part of that time at the “Hanoi Hilton.” Collection contains letters written while a POW and subsequent documentation about his POW experience. Also includes photos of celebratory events held after his release in March 1973 and miscellaneous material …
