Masculinity In Fraternities: Impact On Campus Sexual Violence, Alisha K. Ram
Masculinity In Fraternities: Impact On Campus Sexual Violence, Alisha K. Ram
PSU McNair Scholars Online Journal
The literature on fraternities and sexual violence has suggested that some fraternity members are more likely to adopt and maintain the values found in hegemonic masculinity (Sanday, 2007). This is significant as it can aid our understanding of how fraternities and hegemonic masculinity play a part in promoting and engaging in sexual violence. This paper investigates existing literature on masculinity and how hegemonic masculinity is enforced through fraternity participation. The literature review explores condoned behaviors and beliefs that endorse negative masculine values, which are fostered in the social fraternity lifestyle between brothers. Those values paired with the strong male social …

An Alumnus Learns And Serves: Vincentian Mission In Education, Brian Crimmins
An Alumnus Learns And Serves: Vincentian Mission In Education, Brian Crimmins
Journal of Vincentian Social Action
My Dad would talk about the mission of St. John’s University—and how going to St. John’s was about more than just getting an education. It was also about a commitment to service. Funny thing was—at first, like many of my peers, I looked at St. John’s and saw an opportunity to celebrate the great tradition of college basketball while also getting an education. I didn’t realize at first that what my parents were saying and doing as I grew up—namely the importance of the Vincentian mission—would ring true in my life in such a profound and lasting manner, day in …

Predicting Willingness To Give And Actual Alumni Giving Of Master's-Level Online And Onsite Graduates, Alissa Campbell Shaw
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Two binary logistic regression analyses were conducted across survey data from 254 master's-level graduates to answer research questions about predicting Willingness to Give to their graduate alma mater and predicting Actual Alumni Giving behavior to their graduate alma mater. The predictor variables are dimensions from the community of inquiry theoretical framework (Social, Teaching, and Cognitive Presences), Gender, Graduation Age, Location of classes (onsite or online), State (in state or out of state), and Past Giving to Higher Education. The results of the Willingness to Give analysis indicate that the variables used in the regression equation are not statistically significant on …

Graduate Alumnus: Outstanding Graduate Alumni Awards - Class Of 2014, Graduate School Of Eastern Illinois University
Graduate Alumnus
Since 1951 Eastern has offered advanced study
with master’s programming. Since that first
offering thousands of students have earned
graduate degrees, and EIU graduate alumni
have changed the world we live in. In 2005
EIU celebrated more than 50 years of graduate
education by honoring 50 graduate alumni
as Outstanding Graduate Alumni. That same
year the Graduate Alumni Advisory Board was
created and met for the first time. Since those
initial 50 honorees, the Graduate Alumni
Advisory Board, the Graduate School, and EIU’s
graduate programs have continued to honor
the achievements and accomplishments of our
graduate alumni every year.
