The agricultural area of the Uinta Indian Reservation is within the Uinta Basin. Its center is about 105 miles east of Heber and 90 miles northeast of Price; the two nearest railroad stations. The Reservation contains in all some 2,650,000 acres; but from this must be deducted, by allotments to the Indians and for mountainous land, about 2,000,000 acres, leaving approximately 650,000 acres for agriculture. This 1904 reprint of the unratified treaty with the Arikara, Mandan, and Hidatsa, was reprinted as the Agreement at Fort Berthold, 1866, in vol. II of Charles Kappler’s Indian Affairs. Laws and Treaties. Originally signed on July 27, 1866, at Fort Berthold, Dakota Territory, this treaty and its Addenda were a set of agreements between the US government and representatives of the Arikara, Mandan, and Hidatsa Nations. Utah's position among the great commonwealths depends upon the degree of development of the agricultural industry of the State. As a producer of wealth, however, the mining industry exceeds agriculture. The total annual value of Utah farm products is about $17,000,000.00, while the total output from the mines is valued at $34,000,000.00. The operation of the mines, reduction mills and smelters necessitates the employment of large numbers of people, who swell the population of the State, and consume a large part of its agricultural products.
