The U.S. Supreme Court has found that the right to marry is a constitutionally protected right. That right is restricted, however, by state incest statutes which impede marriage between adults by making some choices of a marriage partner illegal. The constitutional validity of modern state incest statutes is difficult to analyze because of shifting definitions, reflexive fears, ambivalent attitudes, and underlying facile generalizations.

The developmental stage which is responsible for the photoperiodic induction of diapause in the alfalfa weevil was determined by subjecting an increasing number of developmental stages to a long-day photoperiod (16 hours) and subsequently transferring them to a short-day photoperiod (8 hours). Adults which did not oviposit by 90 days after emergence were considered to be in diapause. Exposure of the larval and pupal stages to the long-day photoperiod resulted in 32-47% diapausing adult females, which was similar to a control group reared entirely at the short-day photoperiod. The development of selected vocalizations of hand-reared Black-Capped Chickadees (Parus atricapillus) was described and compared to the ontongeny of vocal signals of wild-reared juveniles. The adultlike vocalizations given by laboratory-reared juveniles, six weeks after hatching, were similar to the vocalizations of adults reared in the wild. The chickadee-dee, contact-flight, and the fright calls all appear to be derived from the begging call given by the nestlings. Songs may be derived from the chickadee-dee call precursor, however.
