Understanding Primary Level Learner Progression In Scotland: Insights From Scottish Online Formative Assessments (Sofa) Data From The Highland Local Authority, Alexander Towne, Sladana Krstic

Assessment and Reporting

This report presents findings from more than 30,000 Scottish Online Formative Assessment (SOFA) assessments completed across one Scottish local authority during the 2024-2025 academic year. It demonstrates how SOFA can be used to monitor learning progression across numeracy, reading and writing, identify attainment gaps between learner groups, and provide detailed diagnostic evidence to support classroom practice, school improvement and local authority panning. Although based on a single local authority, the study illustrates how curriculum-aligned formative assessment can complement national assessment evidence by providing richer insight into learner development.

Perfect Storm Impeding Strategic Leadership Decision-Making At Uc Berkeley, John Kraft, Arthur Kraft, Hank Adler

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Exogenous events have disrupted higher education and impacted the decision-making skills of university presidents. While all university presidents are affected, the problem is most acute at the thirty-six AAU members of the power four conferences. The exogenous events were the precipitous cancellation of federal research grants, the on again and off again restrictions on both new and current foreign students studying at US universities, the proposed 15% limit on indirect costs, the tax on university endowments, the changes in student loan programs, the annual $20.5 million NIL revenue sharing settlement for Division I (DI) athletes, and their share of the …

Temperature Predictions With Zncuins/Zns Quantum Dots, Reu/Fri Program Physics And Astronomy, Amber Banks

Student Works

For hundreds of years, humans have built thermometers based on the principles of thermal expansion and contraction. In the modern world, there is a need to scale down our thermometers to monitor cellular reactions, both within the human body and within artificial organ chips. Lewis et al. (2020) introduces a nanoscale thermometer based on the thermal expansion of CdTe quantum dots. When ex panded, these dots exhibit systematic changes in photoluminescence (PL) which are recognized by a neural network as an increase in temperature. Our research builds upon the framework of Lewis et al. (2020), testing its feasibility with ZnCuInS/ZnS …

Islamic Business Ethics, Muslim Feminism, And The Rhetorical Construction Of Entrepreneurial Legitimacy: Evidence From Emirati Women, Hayfaa A. Tlaiss, Valerie Priscilla Goby Aug 2026

Islamic Business Ethics, Muslim Feminism, And The Rhetorical Construction Of Entrepreneurial Legitimacy: Evidence From Emirati Women, Hayfaa A. Tlaiss, Valerie Priscilla Goby

All Works

Despite the United Arab Emirates’ state-led promotion of women’s entrepreneurship as central to national transformation, Emirati women entrepreneurs continue to face patriarchal norms that frame entrepreneurship as a masculine domain, rendering their entrepreneurial legitimacy both precarious and contested. Based on in-depth interviews, this study examines how women entrepreneurs construct entrepreneurial legitimacy within a patriarchal Muslim context, marked by a tension between empowerment rhetoric and gendered constraints. Drawing on Suddaby and Greenwood’s (2005) framework of rhetorical legitimation together with Islamic business ethics and Muslim feminism, we demonstrate how Emirati women entrepreneurs mobilise state-led empowerment and national transformation discourses to construct entrepreneurial …

Trade Measures—Relationships And Implications, Peijie Wang, Zhiyuan Liu Aug 2026

Trade Measures—Relationships And Implications, Peijie Wang, Zhiyuan Liu

Plymouth Business School

Various value-added trade measures have been developed to address the concern in the growing volume of trade in intermediates that are double counted when crossing international borders more than once. This paper raises a query and makes an inquiry into the query. How trade figures in these measures would look like if comparisons are made in net terms and in the context of trading with the rest of the world, given that some double counted elements offset themselves in a series of crossing border processes in opposite traffic? Examined among them in this study are domestic value added in gross …

Machine Learning For Functional Outcome Prediction After Vestibular Schwannoma Surgery: A Systematic Review And Diagnostic Test Accuracy Meta-Analysis, Shiva Nischal, Shaan Patel, Musa China, Kush Kale, Yi Hein Chai, Santosh Guru, William Muirhead, Patrick Grover

Department of Neurosurgery Faculty Papers

PURPOSE: Machine learning (ML) models have been increasingly applied to predict postoperative facial nerve dysfunction and hearing preservation after vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery. However, reported performance varies substantially, and the overall diagnostic accuracy and clinical reliability of these models remain uncertain. We conducted a systematic review and diagnostic test accuracy meta-analysis to characterise the current state and methodological readiness of ML-based prediction of these outcomes.

METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and CENTRAL were searched from inception to February 2026. Studies evaluating ML-based prediction of facial nerve function or hearing preservation following VS surgery were included. Diagnostic performance metrics were pooled using random-effects …

Fabrication Of Photoresist Su-8 Pyrolyzed Carbon Electrodes And Their Integration In A Microfluidic Hematocrit Detection System, Hwi Yong Lee, Jessika A. Rogers, Chito Kendrick, Sanaz Habibi, Adrienne Minerick Aug 2026

Fabrication Of Photoresist Su-8 Pyrolyzed Carbon Electrodes And Their Integration In A Microfluidic Hematocrit Detection System, Hwi Yong Lee, Jessika A. Rogers, Chito Kendrick, Sanaz Habibi, Adrienne Minerick

Michigan Tech Publications

Carbon microelectrodes are attractive for microfluidic biosensing due to their wide potential window, low overpotentials, chemical stability, and compatibility with low-cost microfabrication. Pyrolysis of photopatterned SU-8 offers a scalable route to carbon electrode fabrication; however, conventional two-step pyrolysis often leads to adhesion issues, geometric distortion, and limited surface area in low-aspect-ratio planar designs. These constraints restrict performance and broader adoption in analytical microdevices. Hematocrit determination, a clinically essential diagnostic measurement, requires electrodes with high reproducibility and robust electrochemical response. A simplified fabrication strategy that improves electrode surface area and performance while maintaining low-aspect-ratio planar geometries remains unresolved. We developed a …

From Evidence To Impact: Academic-Clinical Partnership As A Mentorship Accelerator, Jackeline Iseler, Joshua Winowiecki Aug 2026

From Evidence To Impact: Academic-Clinical Partnership As A Mentorship Accelerator, Jackeline Iseler, Joshua Winowiecki

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Formal mentorship is widely recognized for strengthening nurses’ evidence-based practice (EBP) competencies and supporting nurse-led research, yet persistent gaps remain between academic preparation and clinical translation. This project synthesizes existing literature and cross-institutional case results to examine how mentorship, when fully embedded in Academic-Clinical Partnership (ACP) infrastructure, catalyzes system-level transformation that extends beyond individual gains.

We integrated a literature synthesis of nine studies with a multi-site case analysis across two ACPs:

1. A large community hospital with a structured mentorship program supporting frontline EBP/QI and research initiatives.

2. A large multi-hospital system piloting a structured academic-clinical mentorship initiative, pairing clinical …

Becoming Blind: Innovative Nurse Case Management For Improved Outcomes, Amie Koch

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Globally over 338 million people live with blindness or moderate to severe vision impairment, and is predicted to double by 2025. Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is a maternally inherited mitochondrial disorder that causes sudden, severe vision impairment. Onset can occur throughout the lifespan, however it most often occurs during the teen/young adult years in males and young adult/middle age for females. LHON-affected individuals face health-care barriers, financial hardship, and psychosocial challenges. Individuals with LHON vision impairment are at increased risk for unintentional injuries, loneliness, depression, anxiety, and lower quality of life. A non-profit organization supporting LHON patients collaborated with …

Staff Education To Improve Healthcare Staff Knowledge Of An Electronic Scheduling System In An Intensive Outpatient Program (Iop), Catherine Kinyili

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This Doctor of Nursing Practice staff education project aimed to improve staff knowledge of the newly implemented electronic scheduling and booking kiosk system. A transition from a paper-based to an electronic scheduling system led to reduced staff efficiency, communication challenges, scheduling errors, and delays in patient care. An evaluation identified inconsistent staff knowledge of the newly implemented electronic scheduling system. The practice-focused question for the project was: Among healthcare staff in an intensive outpatient program, how does a one-time structured education and training session affect staff knowledge of a new electronic scheduling system? The purpose of this project was to …
