Perceptions, Attitudes, And Experiences Of Persons Who Work In Forensic Mental Health Systems, Abigail Wiser Dec 2026

Perceptions, Attitudes, And Experiences Of Persons Who Work In Forensic Mental Health Systems, Abigail Wiser

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The forensic mental health system serves clients with dual needs —serious mental health concerns like psychosis and suicidality, and management of risk. Experiences and perceptions of professional and direct care staff may impact daily and therapeutic interactions and client success. These experiences may be marked by stigma, such as beliefs about what led to hospitalization, treatability of mental health concerns, and intentionality of behavior. Understanding this stigma, as well as the role of vicarious trauma, workplace burnout, and other relevant individual factors, may help us understand staff experiences and guide training, thus improving client care. 146 staff members across three …

The Effects Of Eps Level And Presentation Format Of Analysts’ Forecast Deviation On Non-Professional Investors’ Investment Judgments, Clarence Goh, Prasart Jongjaroenkamol, Poh-Sun Seow

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

We experimentally investigate how the presentation format of the extent to which a firm's earnings per share (EPS) diverges from analysts' EPS forecasts (i.e. deviation information) and a firm's EPS level affect the investment judgments of non-professional investors (referred to hereafter as “investors”). Our results suggest that investors' investment judgments are more positive when firms with low (high) EPS levels disclose deviation information in percentage (absolute) terms. Furthermore, when the percentage of forecast deviation is held constant, investment judgments are more positive when EPS levels are high versus low if the deviation information is expressed in absolute terms. By contrast, …

Weathering The Divide: Social Determinants, Neighborhood Context, And Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Among African American Women, Vanessa Cl Morman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disproportionately affects African American women and contributes to racial health disparities in the United States. Although genetic susceptibility influences disease risk, growing evidence suggests that social determinants of health (SDOH), including neighborhood conditions, structural racism, and socioeconomic disadvantage, contribute to disease development and progression. Epigenetic mechanisms may provide a biological pathway linking adverse social conditions to chronic disease disparities. This dissertation examined the influence of SDOH on SLE disparities through evidence synthesis and empirical investigation to inform public health practice and policy.

Methods: This integrated learning experience consisted of three complementary manuscripts. Aim 1 was …

Leveraging Mammal Mycophagy To Determine Environmental Drivers Of Truffle Diversity, Brittany Hartsock Dec 2026

Leveraging Mammal Mycophagy To Determine Environmental Drivers Of Truffle Diversity, Brittany Hartsock

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Many mycorrhizal fungi are hypogeous (truffle-forming), producing underground fruiting bodies. Studying truffles is inherently challenging due to their hidden nature. However, mycophagous mammals provide a unique opportunity to study hypogeous fungi because they rely on truffles as a food source. Although several truffle species have recently been described in the southern Appalachian region, their fruiting patterns remain poorly understood. To address this, we quantified truffle richness and spore loads from 670 Peromyscus scat samples collected across 42 sites spanning an environmental gradient during 2024 in the Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee. We found that truffle richness and spore abundance …

Computational Studies Of Triplet State Formation In Zinc Dipyrrin Complexes, Reuben Kwabla Adigbli Dec 2026

Computational Studies Of Triplet State Formation In Zinc Dipyrrin Complexes, Reuben Kwabla Adigbli

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Zinc dipyrromethene complexes are promising earth-abundant photosensitizers due to their strong visible-light absorption and tunable excited states. To rationally design them for photocatalysis and photodynamic therapy, a molecular-level understanding of triplet-state formation is needed, but details of intersystem crossing remain unclear. To study the effect of π-extension, we synthesized an indole-substituted zinc dipyrrin complex: the dipyrromethane ligand was prepared from indole and mesitaldehyde, oxidized to the dipyrromethene, then coordinated with zinc. DFT and TD-DFT calculations determined ground and excited-state geometries and energies in different solvents, modeled absorption spectra, and visualized charge distributions. The results show how solvent polarity shifts energies …

Mtorc2-Nav1.2 Signaling Drives Early Hyperexcitability In Alzheimer’S Disease Mouse Model, Nolan M Dvorak, Jeffrey L Noebels Dec 2026

Mtorc2-Nav1.2 Signaling Drives Early Hyperexcitability In Alzheimer’S Disease Mouse Model, Nolan M Dvorak, Jeffrey L Noebels

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Hyperexcitability is a biomarker of early-stage Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and hastens cognitive decline later in its course. Mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling contributes to the slope of this trajectory, as evidenced by early increased brain expression and the rescue of hyperexcitability by genetic deletion of mTOR complex 2 (mTORC2); however, a molecular mechanism directly linking mTOR signaling to membrane hyperexcitability in early-stage AD remains elusive. Here, we show that hyperactive mTOR signaling stimulates the voltage-gated Na+ channel 1.2 (Nav1.2), a previously identified downstream phosphorylation target of mTORC2 and a key regulator of membrane electrogenesis. Augmented Nav1.2 channel function induced …

A Performance-Optimized V2v Task Offloading Framework For Real-Time Vehicular Communication, Tariq Qayyum, Asadullah Tariq, Ikbal Taleb, Mohamed Adel Serhani, Zouheir Trabelsi

All Works

As vehicular applications become increasingly complex, their computational demands often exceed the capabilities of individual vehicles. Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) alleviates this limitation by enabling task delegation to nearby edge resources; however, high mobility, dynamic topology, and fluctuating vehicle density make real-time offloading decisions challenging. To address these issues, we propose a performance-optimized Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) task offloading framework for dense and dynamic Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs). The framework follows a two-stage design: (i) context-aware edge-node selection based on live topology capture via periodic beaconing, and (ii) cumulative score-based dynamic priority queuing at the selected edge node. The priority score jointly …

Fig-Gan: Fundus Image Generation Via Deep Learning Based Generative Adversarial Network For Amd Disease Diagnosis, Kailasa Thrishul, Ahed Abugabah, Amina Salhi, Manel Ayadi, Mohamed M. Sithik, D. Jayaprakash, A. Ahilan

All Works

Globally, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains a main cause of irreversible vision loss. Recently, deep learning models have primarily focused on classifying fundus images for early detection of AMD progression. However, existing models rarely address the generation of future progression-aware fundus images, particularly when complete real longitudinal follow-up scans are unavailable. This limitation makes it difficult to track retinal changes over time and highlights the need for generative models capable of producing realistic drusen-level structural variations. To address these issues, a novel deep learning-based FIG-GAN model is to generate synthetic future fundus images from baseline inputs. Multi-Attention U-Net (MAU-Net) is …
