Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The introduction of small-molecule redox mediators into aqueous co-reactant electrochemiluminescence (ECL) systems has emerged as an effective strategy to increase signal intensity. Herein, we investigate the influence of a series of neutral iridium(iii) complexes (Ir(pmi)3, Ir(ppy)3, Ir(ppz)3 and Ir(ppy)2(acac)) as redox mediators for co-reactant ECL in acetonitrile. Using [Ru(bpy)3]2+ as a benchmark luminophore and tri-n-propylamine (TPrA) as a co-reactant, the redox mediators elicit similar effects in this solvent to those of their sulfonated [Ir(sppy)3]3− and [Ir(sppz)3]3− analogues under aqueous conditions. The Ir(ppz)3 complex was most effective; at a concentration of 100 µM it produced an 11-fold increase …

Moringa Oleifera As An Immunomodulator, Noha Swilam, Khaled A. Nematallah, Omayma Eldahshan' Jan 2026

Moringa Oleifera As An Immunomodulator, Noha Swilam, Khaled A. Nematallah, Omayma Eldahshan'

Pharmacy

Moringa oleifera has gained increasing attention for its diverse pharmacological properties, including its potential to modulate immune responses. This chapter explores the immunomodulatory potential of M. oleifera, exploring both its phytochemical composition and experimental evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies. Key bioactive constituents, such as flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, apigenin), phenolic acids (chlorogenic, ferulic, caffeic), glucosinolates (glucomoringin) and their hydrolysis product, benzyl isothiocyanate, are identified as contributors to its immune-regulating properties. It has been demonstrated that these substances affect cytokine expression, suppress pro-inflammatory mediators, increase phagocytic activity and alter lymphocyte reactions. In order to support the plant's traditional use …

Combined Effect Of Porosity And Pore-Size Heterogeneity On Young’S Modulus Of Chemically Corroded Rocks, Hao Li, Zhenjiang You, Leo Pel, David Smeulders Jan 2026

Combined Effect Of Porosity And Pore-Size Heterogeneity On Young’S Modulus Of Chemically Corroded Rocks, Hao Li, Zhenjiang You, Leo Pel, David Smeulders

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Young’s modulus is a critical parameter for evaluating the stability of rock reservoirs, such as CO₂ geological storage. These reservoirs are exposed to chemically corrosions, which alter the pore structure, particularly porosity and pore size heterogeneity, thereby affecting Young’s modulus. This study conducted multiscale experiments to investigate how acid-driven chemical corrosion affects pore structure and its relationship with the Young’s modulus of rocks. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) was used to characterize pore structure evolution, while corrosion mechanisms were examined via mass loss, XRD, pH monitoring, and ion chromatography. Based on the experimental results, a Kinetic Weibull Modulus (KWM) model was …

Making Room For ‘Feelings’: What's At Stake For The Theory Of Practice Architectures?, George Variyan, Brad Gobby Jan 2026

Making Room For ‘Feelings’: What's At Stake For The Theory Of Practice Architectures?, George Variyan, Brad Gobby

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This paper responds to Thelin, K. [2024. What about feelings? Elaboration on and consideration of the theoretical construct of emotions in practice and practice architectures. International Journal of Leadership in Education, 1–14] intriguing proposal that the theory of practice architectures (hereafter TPA) would benefit from an augmentation to its oft-repeated analytical mantra of ‘sayings, doings and relatings’ by adding the notion of feelings. Thelin's work is motivated by the increasing realisation amongst adherents that TPA has thus far been relatively silent on how emotions mediate practice. As such, there are ongoing efforts to think through the place of emotions in …

Comparative Bioassay-Guided Fractionation Of Citrus Species: Phytochemical Characterization And Nanoformulation Of A Polyphenol-Rich Leaf Fraction From Citrus Aurantifolia For Skin Anti-Aging Applications, Noha Swilam, Khaled Nematallah, Amgad Albohy, Noha Badawi, Sameh S. Gad, Maha M. Shouman, Saeed S. Al-Ghamdi, Nahla Ayoub Jan 2026

Comparative Bioassay-Guided Fractionation Of Citrus Species: Phytochemical Characterization And Nanoformulation Of A Polyphenol-Rich Leaf Fraction From Citrus Aurantifolia For Skin Anti-Aging Applications, Noha Swilam, Khaled Nematallah, Amgad Albohy, Noha Badawi, Sameh S. Gad, Maha M. Shouman, Saeed S. Al-Ghamdi, Nahla Ayoub

Pharmacy

Background: Skin aging is driven by oxidative stress and ultraviolet (UV) exposure, leading to extracellular matrix degradation and loss of skin elasticity. This study aimed to identify the most biologically active Citrus species using a bioassay-guided approach and evaluate its potential for dermal applications. Methods: Hydroalcohol extracts and ethyl acetate fractions of Citrus sinensis, Citrus aurantifolia, and Citrus reticulata leaves were screened for antioxidant, enzyme-inhibitory, and polyphenol content. The most active fraction was characterized by UPLC-PDA and LC–MS/MS, formulated into Span-based nanovesicles, and evaluated for physicochemical properties and drug release. Biological activity was assessed using an in vitro scratch wound-healing …

Effect Of Lateral And Backward Walking Training On Balance In Children With Hemiparesis: A Comparative Randomized Controlled Trial, Seham M. Abd El-Moghny, Mohamed I. Elsepaee Jan 2026

Effect Of Lateral And Backward Walking Training On Balance In Children With Hemiparesis: A Comparative Randomized Controlled Trial, Seham M. Abd El-Moghny, Mohamed I. Elsepaee

Journal of Medicine in Scientific Research

Background: Hemiparesis, a common consequence of cerebral palsy (CP), significantly impairs motor function, leading to asymmetrical gait, poor balance, and reduced mobility in affected children. The resulting functional limitations can negatively impact a child's participation in daily activities, social interactions, and overall quality of life. Purpose: To investigate and compare the effectiveness of lateral and backward walking training with mirror visual feedback on standing balance in children with hemiparesis. Methods: Ninety children with hemiparesis, ages five to seven, of both sexes who met the following inclusion criteria were included in the study: They have spasticity at grades 1+ to 2 …
