Clay Modeling As An Effective Method Of Teaching-Learning Among Second-Year Medical Students In Pathology, Seema Umarji, Padmapriya K, Sulata Kamath

Health Professions Education

Introduction: Pathology is a core subject in undergraduate medical education, but students find it challenging to understand and retain microscopic concepts through lectures alone. Clay modeling, multisensory learning strategy, is shown to enhance comprehension in other subjects but remains understudied in pathology.

Purpose: To assess augmentation of learning using clay modeling, evaluate retention of knowledge after one month and explore student perceptions of clay modeling as a teaching method.

Methods: This interventional study involved 60 second-year MBBS students in the Department of Pathology over six months. Students were randomized into study and control groups. The study group used clay modelling …

Governing The Digital Commons, Madelyn Rose Sanfilippo, Brett Frischmann, Michael J. Madison, Katherine J. Strandburg

Faculty Publications

The digital commons, as the coproduction of data, digital cultural products, and community, raise a variety of governance issues. From questions of participation, including voice mechanisms, to the legitimacy of decision-making or ownership, to specific action arenas, governance is complex and dynamic, reflecting the characteristics of the networks in which these commons are situated. This mini-track explores governance challenges and solutions across an array of case studies to highlight governance failures and solutions, many of which focus on reconciling the intersections of different action arenas and aligning policies with contextual norms.

Challenging Agency Deregulation, Todd S. Aagaard Jan 2026

Challenging Agency Deregulation, Todd S. Aagaard

Faculty Publications

The administrative state is experiencing two seismic shifts. First, in recent years, the Supreme Court has issued a series of decisions that significantly curtailed the powers of administrative agencies. Second, President Donald Trump is using administrative agencies to aggressively deregulate in his second term. The conventional wisdom is that the Supreme Court’s recent precedent will facilitate the Trump Administration’s deregulatory agenda.

This Article argues the opposite. Instead of promoting agency deregulation, recent Supreme Court precedent restraining agency authority provides a potentially powerful basis for challenging agency deregulation as administrative overreach. Time and time again, the Court has taken agencies to …

Un Lugar A Donde No Puedo Volver: Perteneciendo En La Distancia, Alberto J. Alonso

Graduate Studies Theses and Dissertations 2026

“A Place I Cannot Return To: Distance and Belonging” investigates how home is not limited to a fixed place, but instead a reconstruction sustained through memory and longing, which focuses on personal experiences of being away from Puerto Rico. I contribute to this broader dialogue by offering a deeply personal perspective shaped by the complexities of cultural belonging. Through photography, collage, and painting, my art practice reconstructs fragmented visual narratives of lived experience to explore homesickness, nostalgia, and displacement, examining how personal and shared histories become anchors to what continually slips away. Although I can physically return to Puerto Rico, …

A Reconstruction Method For The Anisotropic Electrical Conductivity In A Hybrid Planar Inverse Problem, Athanasios Dimitriadis Jan 2026

A Reconstruction Method For The Anisotropic Electrical Conductivity In A Hybrid Planar Inverse Problem, Athanasios Dimitriadis

Graduate Studies Theses and Dissertations 2026

Some single-physics medical imaging methods fail to reliably discriminate benign from malignant biological tissue. In partial response, a new class of inverse problems employ multi-physics phenomena, coupling methods of high resolution with methods of high contrast. In this thesis we are concerned with one such problem in which an anisotropic electrical conductivity is to be recovered from some internal knowledge of the current density field generated by maintaining a fixed boundary voltage. This internal data is obtained by the method of Current Density Impedance Imaging (CDII), which combines Maxwell's equations with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) measurements. The anisotropy class is …

Bovine Lactoferrin Maintains Antibacterial Effect Against Neonatal Escherichia Coli Septicaemia Isolates Despite The Presence Of Iron Acquisition Genes, Matthew Mayorga, Joshua L. Wheatley, Brianna N. Maldonado, Susana Chavez-Bueno

Student Publications

Introduction. Escherichia coli is a dominant cause of neonatal sepsis for which no prevention measures currently exist. Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-sequestering antibacterial protein that has been noticed to decrease neonatal late-onset sepsis.

Hypothesis/Gap Statement. LF’s effect on in vitro growth of neonatal E. coli clinical isolates causing septicaemia is unknown. The prevalence of iron acquisition virulence genes which contribute to pathogenicity outcomes in these strains has also not been described in detail.

Aim. To evaluate bovine lactoferrin’s (bLF) effects on the in vitro growth of neonatal septicaemia E. coli isolates, and to determine the presence of iron acquisition …

A virus-derived serpin, Serp-1, has proven efficacy in treating inflammatory and coagulation disorders in preclinical and clinical studies. Serp-1 evolved over millions of years to block host immune responses, targeting serine proteases in immune and coagulation pathways. Treatment with PEGylated Serp-1 (PEGSerp-1) protein reduced lung injury in both lupus lung hemorrhage and SARS-CoV-2 models. Here, PEGSerp-1 effects on immune-coagulopathic responses is examined in a mouse colitis model. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with life-threatening complications with severe inflammation, bleeding, vasculitis, cancer and toxic megacolon. Serine protease cascades activate coagulation and complement pathways throughout the human body and are regulated …

Machine Learning Acceleration Of Micro-Credentialing, Knowledge Gap Remediation, And Micro-Recruiting Of Stem Assessments: From Learner Data To Hardware, Paul Amoruso

Graduate Studies Theses and Dissertations 2026

The growing demand for a skilled STEM workforce calls for adaptive, data-driven education that personalizes learning while aligning competencies with industry needs. This work introduces a multi-layered framework that integrates artificial intelligence (AI), data mining and hardware-aware optimization to support this goal. At its core, the AchieveUp system applies generative AI-assisted skill tagging to digitized assessments, enabling multi-semester tracking of student progress. Analysis across 14 semesters shows that underperforming students were found to benefit most from attending score clarification sessions, a relationship validated by an R² value of 0.83, indicating strong predictive validity between attendance and skill acquisition. To remediate …
