Cognitive Warfare And The Changing Character Of Engagement: A Neurostrategic Perspective, James Giordano

This commentary explains how cognitive warfare goes beyond traditional information and psychological operations. Instead of trying to change what people think, it focuses on how they think - such as shaping perception, judgment, and decision-making using advances in neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and data. Dr. Giordano argues that the human mind is becoming a key battleground in modern conflict. These approaches can affect individuals and societies by weakening decision-making, trust, and cohesion. As a result, conflict is increasingly defined by the ability to influence thinking and behavior, raising important strategic and ethical questions for future military operations.

Conflict strategy can be exceedingly complex. While many of the basics are simple, even the simple can be highly complicated to execute. The Schlieffen Plan in World War I appeared straight forward, but execution was a great deal more complex. It failed and the result was years of trench warfare.  In addition, leaders entering conflict may not fully appreciate the full context, its effect, and the need for a long term result--a better state of peace.

This article explores the relationship between uncertainty in armed conflict, the use of artificial intelligence (AI), and the content of international law. It first provides a review of different types of conflict-related uncertainty, both internal to the party to conflict and external, and considers the interaction between these existing uncertainties and the use of AI. In so doing, it also explores the new uncertainties that can be introduced through AI. The Trump Administration has been prone to brazen power plays. These actions have three basic characteristics: they are dramatic deviations from conventional governance, generating headlines and online clicks; their legal (and sometimes factual) foundations are tenuous; and they are potentially effective even if they are ultimately held lawful. This Essay analyzes this phenomenon. It argues that such power plays can be a rational strategy for a president under certain circumstances. Evangelistic prayer is widely assumed to be appropriate, but the biblical basis for the practice has been insufficiently argued. Some evangelistic resources assume evangelistic prayer is necessary. Others overlook the practice, and many discuss evangelistic prayer by making minimal arguments for the practice. Due to the lack of comprehensive arguments for evangelistic prayer, some authors have been able to claim that prayers for the lost are unbiblical. This dissertation enters the conversation by arguing that the New Testament presents evangelistic prayer as a biblically mandated, exemplified, and theologically supported practice. The Efficacy Of Economic Sanctions On Venezuela, Jennifer Perez

This article examines the persistent failure of U.S. economic sanctions to catalyze democratic transition in Venezuela, addressing the growing disconnect between the statutory intent of American foreign policy and the resulting humanitarian and geopolitical realities. While the U.S. government shifted from targeted sanctions against corrupt individuals to comprehensive measures against the Venezuelan oil industry, this strategy has failed to dislodge Nicolas Maduro’s oppressive regime. Instead, the article identifies a critical backfire of such policies, where broad economic pressure has inadvertently facilitated the consolidation of authoritarian power and worsened domestic suffering. This thesis argues that the United States systematically worked to destabilize the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and initiate regime change through economic sanctions, propaganda campaigns, funding of political opposition movements, and the facilitation of NATO bombing campaigns. Through an examination of recently declassified U.S. government documents, National Security Council briefings, and diplomatic correspondence, a more complicated reality of U.S. involvement in Yugoslavia emerges. Evidence reveals that the Clinton Administration leveraged the real humanitarian crisis in Kosovo to advance post-Cold War strategic interests, particularly the political and economic unification of Europe under NATO. This thesis seeks to further bridge the gap in the literature between the fields of psychology and Latin literature. Specifically, it examines Latin love elegy through modern psychological frameworks of limerence. Limerence is a descriptive psychological condition in which an individual experiences an involuntary, often uncontrollable obsessive attachment to another person known as the limerent object. Drawing from the works of Ovid, Propertius, Tibullus, and Catullus, the thesis argues that the elegiac amator consistently parallels the cognitive andemotional patterns associated with limerence, including idealization, uncontrollable ruminative thinking, emotional volatility, and fixation on reciprocated attention.
