Advanced Practice Paramedics (APPs) are highly skilled paramedics who operate in diverse clinical settings both within and outside traditional ambulance services. International evidence demonstrates that APPs enhance patient outcomes in areas such as critical and primary care. In Australia, the expansion of APP roles and responsibilities has gained momentum; however, no nationally recognised framework exists to define their expected capabilities. This gap leads to inconsistencies in education, practice and role clarity. A standardised capability framework is therefore vital to guide the development, implementation and integration of APP roles within the Australian healthcare system. The primary aim of this study was …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Previous studies have demonstrated that the immunoglobulin G (IgG) N-glycome and transcriptome are potential biochemical signatures of chronological and biological ages, and several aging clocks have been developed. By integrating the IgG N-glycome and transcriptome, we propose a novel aging clock, gtAge. We developed a deep reinforcement learning-based multiomics integration method called AlphaSnake. The results showed that AlphaSnake achieved a predicted coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.853, outperforming the concatenation-based integration method (R2 = 0.820). The gtAge estimated by AlphaSnake explained up to 85.3% of the variance in chronological age, which was higher than that in …

The outsourcing of traditionally military functions in Africa to private military companies (PMCs) such as the Wagner Group and the Africa Corps has been accompanied by violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law. According to the International Law Commission's Articles on Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts, state responsibility for these violations can be imputed to the states that employ PMCs to function as their agents, to exercise government authority or to act in the vacuum left by official authorities. States that do not intervene to prevent these abuses fail their obligations of due diligence through …

When Brian Acted His Way Out Of A Wet Paper Bag: The Transformational Qualities Of Drama Education, Christina Gray, Robin Pascoe
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This study utilised Mezirow’s Transformative Learning framework to explore drama teachers’ and pre-service drama teachers’ perceptions of transformation in the drama space. The research specifically examined three core questions: 1. Who are transformed? 2. What is transformed? 3. How does transformation happen? Adopting a phenomenological qualitative approach, we analysed interview data from eight drama teachers and 22 pre-service drama teachers in Western Australia. Findings indicate that participation in school-based drama activities fosters transformations (and perceptions of transformation) in self-confidence, personal values, and willingness to take creative risks. Beyond teaching performance skills, drama cultivates deeper understandings of self and others, offering …

Within-Session Dose–Response And Between-Session Carry-Over Effects Of Eccentric Contractions Versus Static Stretches On Range Of Motion And Muscle–Tendon Mechanics, Anthony David Kay, Anthony William Baross, Brett Anthony Baxter, Anthony John Blazevich
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Purpose: Eccentric resistance training produces substantial increases in maximum joint range of motion (ROM), highlighting its potential as an alternative to static stretching. However, little is known about the short-term effects or associated mechanisms. Therefore, this study compared within-session responses and between-session carry-over effects of eccentric contractions and static stretching in 18 healthy human volunteers. Methods: Using a counterbalanced crossover design, participants completed four sessions across two conditions: Eccentric contractions (EC1, EC2) and static stretching (SS1, SS2), with 48–72 h between sessions. EC comprised 5 sets of 10 × 3-s isokinetic eccentric contractions while SS comprised 5 sets of 30-s …

This study investigated immune cell distributions, cell-specific immune markers, and selected biomarker targets in pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) using multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC). Whole blood was collected from 45 individuals, including healthy controls (HC), EPTB, and PTB patients (n = 15/group). Peripheral blood leukocytes were analysed by MFC to characterize CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, natural killer (NK), invariant NKT (iNKT) and NKT cells, classical (CM), intermediate (IM) and non-classical monocytes (NCM), and activated monocytes (AM). Expression of GBP1, CALCOCO2, IFIT3, SNX10, ARG1, PD-1, and PD-L1 was assessed across these immune subsets. Increased frequencies of NK, NKT, …
