Stress-Driven Two-Phase Nonlocal Model For Nanobars Embedded In Elastic Substrates With Surface Effects, Suchart Limkatanyu, Worathep Sae-Long, Piti Sukontasukkul, Amorn Pimanmas, Preeda Chaimahawan
Babylonian Journal of Mechanical Engineering
This paper develops a nonlocal bar–substrate medium model to study the axial (longitudinal) response of nanobars embedded in an elastic foundation. Small-scale behavior is represented through a two-phase mixture, stress-driven, nonlocal integral formulation. To reflect the surrounding medium and surface-related size effects, the Winkler foundation and the Gurtin–Murdoch surface elasticity framework are incorporated, respectively. The local bar–substrate governing differential equilibrium equation (GDEE) and associated boundary conditions (BCs) are first obtained via the virtual displacement principle, and the resulting local formulation is then generalized to the nonlocal setting using the adopted two-phase mixture model. Contamination of terrestrial systems by microplastics (MPs) has become a critical environmental hazard, but detection of such contaminants in a complex soil system is a challenge for conventional analytical techniques. This research aims to assess the potential of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for the detection and differentiation of different types of microplastics, including HDPE, LDPE, PP, PS, and PVC, dispersed in the soil of Al Najaf, Iraq. Religious Visitors’ Spiritual Values And Their Relative Importance: Evidence From Chinese Buddhist Tourism Contexts, Zhiqing Wang, Keji Huang, Jiankang Zhang, Yunyun Fan, Ge Zhang
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
Spiritual values are affected by diverse factors with different roles and influence daily life in various ways. Using Mount Jiuhua and Mount Putuo, two mountains in Mainland China with great importance in Buddhism, as examples, this study explores the specific dimensions of religious visitors’ spiritual values. Through a survey study, five factors of these spiritual values were extracted and their relative importance was measured. The identified factors were transcendence, general connectedness, inner balance, positive life direction and special religious feelings. According to factor importance analysis, these spiritual values can be categorised into three levels: fundamental, reflective and surpassing. This study …

The Hajj pilgrimage is the most sacred da’wah ritual and has resilience against global crises and the impact of COVID-19. The cancellation of the 2020-2021 Hajj pilgrimage has implications for the length of the waiting list and the bio-psycho-social conditions of elderly Hajj pilgrims. This study aims to identify the role of female Hajj pilgrims who failed to depart in overcoming bio-psycho-social problems. This study is a field study with a socio-psychological da’wah approach. Unsafe pilgrimage is defined a religious journey that may have life risks. From the outbreak of COVID-19, for instance, many people were infected and died, but despite the severe conditions all over the world including Iran, one of the most famous and biggest pilgrimage events was held in Mashhad, Iran. This study tries to explore the causes and motivations of unsafe pilgrimage over the period when COVID-19 was a threat. To do the research, ethnographic method for collecting the data and Colaizzi’s interpretive phenomenological method for analysing the experience of 38 pilgrims doing foot-pilgrimage were used. This paper proposes a “deep culture” approach to intercultural education grounded in insights from cultural psychology. It argues that foreign experiences are psychologically challenging and that insights from cultural psychology and related fields can help learners better navigate foreign experiences. It contrasts how culture and cultural learning are conceptualized in intercultural education and cultural psychology. It presents key psychological insights that are useful in intercultural education, including: an embodied view of culture; predictive processing; dual-processing models of cognition; Oz moments (culture bumps); cultural variation in various psychological domains; the cognitive processes related to empathy; and cognitive bias and ethnocentrism. Understanding Mental Wellness In Collegiate Pilots: The Interplay Of Fatigue, Sleep, And Health-Promoting Behaviors, Flavio Antonio Coimbra Mendonca, Samantha Bowyer, Carolina Anderson, Bill Deng Pan
Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering
This study investigates patterns of fatigue severity, sleep hygiene, daytime sleepiness, and health-promoting lifestyle behaviors and examine the interrelationships among these factors in collegiate aviation students. Participants included undergraduate professional pilot students enrolled in a Code of Federal Regulations Part 141 four-year aviation degree program in the southeastern United States (N = 82).
Participants completed four validated self-report instruments: the Fatigue Severity Scale, the Sleep Hygiene Index, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, and the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II.
