Seasonal Molecular And Secretory Responses Of Equine Ovarian Follicles To Estradiol And Sulpiride Treatment, Madalyn Autin
Seasonal Molecular And Secretory Responses Of Equine Ovarian Follicles To Estradiol And Sulpiride Treatment, Madalyn Autin
LSU Master's Theses
Mares entering seasonal anovulation during winter present a significant challenge for equine breeding programs. Treatment with estradiol cypionate (ECP) and sulpiride in a long-acting vehicle can advance the first ovulation of the season; however, the molecular and secretory mechanisms underlying this response remain unclear. This study compared follicle wall gene expression and endocrine factors (from blood plasma and follicular fluid) among seasonally anovulatory mares responding to ECP-sulpiride (RESP; n = 15, treated with 50 mg ECP and 3 g sulpiride), mares undergoing natural spring transition (ST; n = 16, vehicle-treated only), and mares cycling during the summer ovulatory season (SOV; …

Kinds Of Evidence Cited By Councilors In Municipal Council Sessions: The Case Of Santa Fe, Cebu, Philippines, Junald D. Ango
Journal of Public Affairs and Development
This paper explores the practice of evidence-based policymaking (EBPM) in the municipal council of Santa Fe, Cebu, Philippines. Data for this study is based on a content analysis of the minutes of council sessions and committee meetings from July 2022 to August 2024. The use of evidence in policymaking has caught on among policymakers in the Philippines, at both the national and local levels. However, few studies have examined policymakers' use of evidence in municipal governments, especially those in smaller, less urbanized towns. In the case of the Municipality of Santa Fe, at least 13 kinds of evidence were cited …

Interstitial Fluid N-Glycans Serve As A Proxy For Serum Biomarker Discovery In A Pilot Study, Radka Saldova, Talus K. Gaymore, Caitriona Walsh, Eder Zavala, Paula M. Mendes
Student Papers, Posters & Projects
Protein glycosylation is the most prevalent post-translational modification and is known to undergo profound alterations in disease. While serum N-glycosylation has been extensively studied, interstitial fluid is gaining prominence as a minimally invasive biomarker source, underscored by the widespread clinical adoption of wearable glucose monitors in diabetic patients. However, the glycomic landscape of interstitial fluid remains largely unexplored. Here, we have performed a comparative analysis of the N-glycome from interstitial fluid and matched plasma from five healthy volunteers using liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and exoglycosidase digestions. Strikingly, the interstitial fluid N-glycome closely shows overlapping profiles with the plasma of each …
Analysis And Categorization Of Second-Order Linear Partial Dynamic Equations On Time Scales, Svetlin G. Georgiev, Jervin Zen Lobo, Sanket Tikare
Analysis And Categorization Of Second-Order Linear Partial Dynamic Equations On Time Scales, Svetlin G. Georgiev, Jervin Zen Lobo, Sanket Tikare
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we obtain the canonical form of second-order linear partial dynamic equations in two independent variables on time scales, together with the identity for the characteristic quadratic form. This is then used to classify these equations as hyperbolic, elliptic, or parabolic. We deduce the characteristic equations in each case, determine their roots, and provide the corresponding characteristic curves. In one case, we derive the generalized Beltrami equations on time scales. Suitable examples involving equations of interest are explored, and the developed theory is illustrated through these examples.
A Modest Proposal For Discourse Analysis In Nonbinary Communities: Method And Case Study, Nikoli Michael Daigneault
A Modest Proposal For Discourse Analysis In Nonbinary Communities: Method And Case Study, Nikoli Michael Daigneault
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
While linguists have long used discourse analysis to study language variation in binary and nonnormative gender groups, nonbinary people have often been excluded from analyses or treated without a nonbinary-informed framework. Nevertheless, nonbinary language use can provide key insights into the relationship between gender and language. In this thesis, I propose Nonbinary Discourse Analysis, a set of recommendations and best practices for conducting discourse analysis in nonbinary communities. These methods are informed by previous empirical research on nonnormative gender identities and theoretical work in trans linguistics (Zimman, 2020) and trans epistemologies (Nordmarken, 2019; Raclaw, in press). To demonstrate the methodology, …

Transcriptomic And Genomic Insights Into Nutrient Stress Responses And Subgenome Evolution In Chenopodium, Ashley Kathleen Marcheschi
Theses and Dissertations
Chenopodium is a diverse genus of nutritionally and ecologically important species in the Amaranthaceae family. This thesis investigates two outstanding questions in the genus: how Chenopodium quinoa responds transcriptionally to nutrient deficiency and how Australian Chenopodium species are related through their subgenomic ancestry and evolutionary history. First, we characterized transcriptomic responses of C. quinoa to deficiencies of twelve essential macro- and micronutrients across leaf and root tissues using RNA sequencing. Leaves showed the strongest responses under nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, and zinc deficiency, while roots responded more evenly across conditions. Recurring responses included suppression of photosynthesis, remodeling of translational machinery, reactive …

Food And Drug Administration Audit Outcomes And Their Association With Class I And Class Ii Food Recalls, Mark Baker
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Foodborne illness and food recalls remain major public health concerns in the United States. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior, the purpose of this quantitative secondary analysis was to examine whether Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection classifications, warning letters, and prior 24-month inspection frequency were associated with facility involvement in a subsequent Class I or Class II food recall. Question-specific analytic files were created from publicly available FDA administrative records. Eligible records included FDA-regulated food facilities with qualifying inspection or warning letter events and sufficient data to assess recall involvement within a 12-month follow-up period. The final analytic …

BACKGROUND: The GM2 gangliosidoses (GM2) are ultra-rare neurodegenerative disorders caused by deficient hexosaminidase A and/or B activity, leading to lysosomal GM2 ganglioside accumulation. Disease onset ranges from infancy to adulthood, with earlier onset associated with more rapid progression. Neurofilament light chain (NfL), a sensitive marker of axonal injury, has been extensively investigated as a biomarker for neurodegenerative disorders, including GM2.
METHODS: To evaluate its clinical utility as a biomarker for GM2, NfL was measured in patients with GM2 enrolled in a Phase 2b, multinational, rater-blinded study of levacetylleucine [NCT03759665], and in its open-label Extension Phase (EP).
RESULTS: Nineteen participants had …

CcTET (Coprinopsis cinerea ten-eleven translocation) is a non-heme Fe(II)/2-oxoglutarate (2OG)-dependent oxygenase that catalyzes the oxidative demethylation of both N6-methyladenine (6mA) and 5-methylcytosine (5mC) in double-stranded DNA, distinguishing it from other TET enzymes that act exclusively on 5mC. Despite this bifunctional activity, the molecular origins of its substrate selectivity and catalytic mechanism remain poorly understood. Here, we employed a multiscale computational approach combining classical molecular dynamics simulations and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics calculations to characterize the conformational dynamics and reaction pathways of CcTET. Our results show that CcTET follows the canonical Fe(IV)=O-mediated mechanism, in which hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) …

Movement And Distribution Dynamics Of Predatory Fishes In The St. Lucie Estuary, Sarah Fae Leonowicz Torre
Movement And Distribution Dynamics Of Predatory Fishes In The St. Lucie Estuary, Sarah Fae Leonowicz Torre
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Estuaries are productive but highly variable ecosystems that support recreationally and commercially valuable fisheries, as well as species of conservation concern. However, coastal development, habitat loss, altered freshwater inflow, and declining water quality can modify the environmental gradients that structure fish distributions. In the St. Lucie River and southern Indian River Lagoon, located in southeast Florida, managed freshwater discharges, watershed runoff, shoreline modification, and degradation of essential fish habitats (e.g., seagrass, oyster, and mangrove forests) have altered estuarine conditions.
This dissertation evaluates how four estuarine fish species with contrasting life histories respond to environmental variability, hydrologic disturbance, and habitat structure …

Explainable Machine Learning For Biomedical Diagnostics: Optical Imaging And Eeg Signal Analysis, Fozia Rajbdad
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
The growing convenience of complex biomedical data begins new roads for better disease detection and functional identification via artificial intelligence (AI). Nevertheless, conventional analysis methods often rely on basic metrics that drop sensitive biotic differences, and various AI systems are difficult to infer, limiting their clinical reliability and practical use. There is a growing need for explainable, physiologically relevant computational models that can extract key biomarkers from diverse biomedical data sources. This dissertation addresses this problem by obtaining explainable machine learning and deep learning procedures for studying biomedical signals and optical imaging data.
This dissertation is divided into two parts; …

Compressed Cinema As A Study In Llm Latent Spaces, Mallen Clifton
ELO (un)supervised 2026
In his article “Spec Acts” (2021), Matthew Kirschenbaum analyzes the AI-generated novel 1 the Road to develop his titular concept of the spec act, “the future in its multitudes collapsing into an actionable present.” With the proliferation of texts produced by generative AI and subsequent critical analyses of them, one element in particular calls for further theorization: “the future in its multitudes,” or more directly, the latent space. This echoes arguments by critics such as Antonio Somaini, who offered his own “Theory of Latent Spaces” last year. However, where Somaini’s attention is towards visual culture, I turn mine to the …

Several widespread mechanisms enable cellular communication and coordinate the behavior of bacterial populations. The modules responsible for cellular communication are often found in matching pairs: an enzyme that synthesizes a signal molecule and a specific receptor that decodes it. A notable exception is Escherichia coli SdiA, a homolog of known N-acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) receptors, for which no corresponding AHL synthase exists. SdiA is an orphan receptor that enables cross-talk by sensing AHLs from other bacterial species. In this work, we investigated whether homocysteine thiolactone (HTL), an AHL-like molecule arising from a proofreading reaction of methionyl tRNA synthetase (MetRS) to correct …

Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research
Climate change in the Arctic is accelerating more rapidly than the rest of the globe, changing the disease ecology within arctic systems. A prime example of this are disease carrying mosquitoes (Family: Culicidae) expanding their range and overlapping with different animal hosts. To better ascertain the changing disease ecology in the Arctic, methods to identify disease vectors—like mosquitoes—are needed to understand how this complex and shifting vector and host network will impact immunologically naive Arctic Gyrfalcons (Falco rusticolus). This ongoing study aims to identify mosquitoes collected from Gyrfalcon nests in Nome, Alaska to species level and to test …

Phenotypic Plasticity And Transpiration Patterns In Sagebrush Under Controlled Environmental Stress Conditions, Megan Marty, Paige Skinner, Peggy Martinez, Sven Buerki
Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research
Sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) is a shrub species native to the sagebrush steppe of western North America. Increasing drought and heat events, along with rising wildfire frequency, place significant stress on sagebrush populations and threaten their long‑term sustainability. Phenotypic plasticity, the ability of an individual plant to modify its physiology during its lifetime in response to environmental stress, may help certain sagebrush genotypes to better tolerate these changing conditions. Phenotypic plasticity does not involve genetic change, although stress triggered physiological modifications may be inherited through epigenetic processes. Plasticity is not universal across sagebrush genotypes. The research in this lab …
