Ageing With Hiv: Epidemiological Transition, Biological Mechanisms, And The Impact Of Evolving Antiretroviral Therapy, Jude Eteneneng Enoh, Roland Tiagha Akah Jan 2026

Ageing With Hiv: Epidemiological Transition, Biological Mechanisms, And The Impact Of Evolving Antiretroviral Therapy, Jude Eteneneng Enoh, Roland Tiagha Akah

Mansoura Medical Journal

The scale up of antiretroviral therapy (ART) has led to the evolution of HIV infection into a chronic condition, leading to a rapid growth in the number of older adults with HIV. This trend involves several biological, medical, and psychological challenges that go beyond conventional HIV treatment. The current mini-review provides a summary of recent data (2014 – 2026) regarding the changing epidemiology of HIV, biological aspects of ageing, and comorbidities and health systems associated with ageing.

Ageing is driven by persistent immune activation, inflammation, immune senescence, and microbial translocation, all of which accelerate biological ageing. These biological factors lead …

Understanding And Mitigating The Impact Of Childhood Trauma: A Guide For Educators, Kirsten L. Sands Jan 2026

Understanding And Mitigating The Impact Of Childhood Trauma: A Guide For Educators, Kirsten L. Sands

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic experiences that occur during childhood with lasting effects on students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. Although childhood adversity typically occurs outside of the educational setting, difficulties with emotional regulation, peer relationships, concentration, behavior, and engagement impact education. Teachers are uniquely qualified to observe these behaviors and provide support. However, educators may lack the foundational knowledge and resources necessary to recognize potential signs of adversity. Teachers need foundational information on ACEs, knowledge of potential signs, and how to provide practical, trauma-informed strategies for responding to students who may be experiencing effects of childhood …

Left-Hand Technique And The Limits Of The Possible, Ricardo Iznaola Jan 2026

Left-Hand Technique And The Limits Of The Possible, Ricardo Iznaola

Soundboard Scholar

This article conceptualizes classical guitar left-hand technique through a physiomechanical framework that places coordinated movement—particularly shifting—at the center of technical practice. Challenging traditional positional doctrines that privilege static hand forms and digital independence, the author argues that such approaches often disregard the functional anatomy of the limb, resulting in inefficiency, unnecessary tension, and potential injury.   Advancing the principle that form must follow function, the study proposes shifting as the fundamental technical category governing all left-hand procedures. A systematic typology—interpositional, intrapositional, and compound shifting—serves as the basis for analyzing arm-wrist-hand coordination across diverse technical contexts, including extensions and contractions, barrés, slurs, …

Turning 30 In 600 Feet, Tate Lewis-Carroll Jan 2026

Turning 30 In 600 Feet, Tate Lewis-Carroll

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is a poem; it records fourteen consecutive months of the poet’s life through rigorous, daily typing habits with nonoptimal tools and material: a typewriter and 600 feet of receipt paper. Through the adoption of these conditions, and through the dailiness of the habit, this thesis crips and deploys a poetics of chronic impediment for accessing constraint and its role in making. This thesis includes a critical preface which explores some of the poet’s specific relationships to chronic pain, both physical and emotional; forgetfulness and dissociation; and disruption by remembering a decade-long flare of chronic illness and abuse. With …

The Right To Read: Opposing The Censorship Of Young Adult Literature On Grounds Of Sexually Explicit Content, Kate Fortner Jan 2026

The Right To Read: Opposing The Censorship Of Young Adult Literature On Grounds Of Sexually Explicit Content, Kate Fortner

Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, I use intersections between sexuality studies, feminism, queer theory, and theories of children’s and young adult literature to examine and historicize the prevalence of book bans and challenges between 2020 and 2025 that target young adult literature on the basis of sexually explicit content. To understand the opposition to portrayals of underage heterosexuality, I analyze John Green’s Looking for Alaska, considering its history of censorship as well as the author’s response to those bans. To understand the challenges to depictions of LGBTQ+ identities aimed at young people, I look at Maia Kobabe’s Gender Queer and Juno …

Transgender Representation In Japanese Video Games And Their Corresponding American Fandoms, Aj Abad Jan 2026

Transgender Representation In Japanese Video Games And Their Corresponding American Fandoms, Aj Abad

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis explores transgender and gender non-conforming characters within Japanese media and their corresponding American fandoms. In this thesis, I use a methodology named trans negotiated readings, stemming from Stuart Hall’s theory of dominant codes and negotiated readings. Through focusing on two characters from two different Japanese media—Arashi Narukami from Ensemble Stars!! and Mizuki Akiyama from Project Sekai: Colorful Stage Feat. Hatsune Miku, I uncover some of the dominant codes encoded the original source material. After, I also examine their corresponding American fandoms, uncovering the negotiated readings from the fanbase. This thesis attempts to show different cultures’ interpretation of transgender …

Children’S And Adult Perspectives On Mental Health In Children’S Youth Literature And Media, Edcel J. Cintron-Gonzalez Jan 2026

Children’S And Adult Perspectives On Mental Health In Children’S Youth Literature And Media, Edcel J. Cintron-Gonzalez

Theses and Dissertations

My dissertation extends existing work on mental health in children’s literature to examine the different narratives strategies that text, film, and media for young audiences use to connect childhood, caregiving, and emotional wellbeing. Three areas of scholarship—children’s literature scholarship, health humanities work, and feminist care ethics—inform my project. Overall, I am interested in how a variety of genres for young readers represent mental health not only as an individual experience, but also as something shaped by family, culture, community, and adult-child relationships. It is therefore important to delineate the different concepts and frameworks that help make sense of how mental …

Vocabulary Assessment And Washback: English Teachers' Practices In Preparing Students For The Wassce In Ghana, Ishmael Nii Amon Neequaye Jan 2026

Vocabulary Assessment And Washback: English Teachers' Practices In Preparing Students For The Wassce In Ghana, Ishmael Nii Amon Neequaye

Theses and Dissertations

Persistent concerns in WAEC Chief Examiners’ Reports consistently attribute declining student performance on the WASSCE English Language examination to limited vocabulary knowledge. Despite these recurring observations, little research has explored how teachers respond to the vocabulary demands embedded within this high-stakes examination. This qualitative study investigates (1) how Senior High School English teachers prepare students for the vocabulary demands of the WASSCE English paper and (2) how the assessment pressures influence instructional practices and classroom decision-making.  Drawing on communicative competence, multiliteracies, and washback, the study employed a descriptive case study design and thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews and focus group …

Advocating Legal Literacies And Housing Justice In Technical And Professional Communication: A Case Study Of Tenancy Laws, Agreements, And Stories In Ghana, Eric Nuamah Korankye Jan 2026

Advocating Legal Literacies And Housing Justice In Technical And Professional Communication: A Case Study Of Tenancy Laws, Agreements, And Stories In Ghana, Eric Nuamah Korankye

Theses and Dissertations

In this dissertation, I study the intersection of legal literacies, housing justice, and technical documentation in technical and professional communication (TPC). Specifically, I examine the complicity of TPC documents (i.e., tenancy agreements) in tenancy oppression in Ghana, focusing on how they are designed and used to disenfranchise tenants, formalize tenancy oppression, and uphold asymmetrical power structures among housing stakeholders (e.g., tenants, house owners, rent control officers, etc.) in the private rental market in Ghana, specifically in Accra. Using my newly developed Glocal Intersectional Justice (GIJ) methodology, I design two decolonial case studies, in which I conduct a rhetorical analysis of …

Poor Brain Reserve Increases Mortality Risk In Glioblastoma, Sree Gongala, Pamela Lamontagne, Danial Marcus, Et Al. Jan 2026

Poor Brain Reserve Increases Mortality Risk In Glioblastoma, Sree Gongala, Pamela Lamontagne, Danial Marcus, Et Al.

BACKGROUND: Brain reserve refers to the structural capacity of the brain and correlates with age and Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS). While age and KPS are known independent predictors of survival in glioblastoma patients, the role of brain reserve in influencing glioblastoma outcomes remains unexplored. This study investigates the relationship between baseline brain-reserve metrics and survival outcomes in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1-wildtype (IDH1-WT) glioblastoma.

METHODS: We analyzed 841 patients with IDH1-WT glioblastoma using clinical data and presurgical MR images sourced from 4 institutions. MRI-based tumor characteristics and quantitative brain-reserve metrics were assessed using the Cancer Imaging Phenomics Toolkit and the Computational Anatomy …

A Nuclear Terrorism Scenario: Improvised Nuclear Weapons With 60%-Enriched Uranium, Matt Caplan Jan 2026

A Nuclear Terrorism Scenario: Improvised Nuclear Weapons With 60%-Enriched Uranium, Matt Caplan

Faculty publications – Physics

In this work we show that approximately 60–70 kg of 60%-enriched uranium can be used to build a crude nuclear weapon with a kiloton yield. While too large to fit on a missile, such a weapon could be delivered by a shipping container. This analysis is motivated by the June 2025 Israeli and US attacks on Iran, especially the bombings of the nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan. The Iranian stockpile of approximately 440 kg of 60%-enriched uranium is, at the time of writing, inaccessible to IAEA inspectors and stored in secret. The rapid clandestine relocation of this material …

Digital Truth Making, Creative Resistance, And Power Negotiation Through Social Media: A Digital Ethnography Of The 2024 Gen Z Uprising In Bangladesh, Mustafizurrrahman Rahat Jan 2026

Digital Truth Making, Creative Resistance, And Power Negotiation Through Social Media: A Digital Ethnography Of The 2024 Gen Z Uprising In Bangladesh, Mustafizurrrahman Rahat

Theses and Dissertations

This research investigates how social media shaped political participation during the 2024 July Uprising in Bangladesh, focusing on the production and negotiation of political truth, legitimacy, and resistance through everyday digital practices. Rather than conceptualizing social media solely as a communication tool, the study analyzes digital platforms as contested spaces where activists, state-aligned actors, and other participants constructed, circulated, and challenged competing political narratives throughout the uprising.

Drawing on digital ethnography, this study integrates netnographic observation of Facebook groups, pages, hashtags, memes, and protest-related visual content with content analysis, reflexive participant observation, and semi-structured interviews with Generation Z participants. The …
