Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as key regulators in cancer, with significant potential as diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets. Here, this work systematically analyzes lncRNA associations with targeted therapies and immunotherapies across 33 cancer types using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and real-world datasets. This work identifies 53,173 lncRNA-pathway associations, millions of lncRNA-drug response associations (via CancerRxTissue and VAEN), and extensive correlations with immune checkpoints and infiltration. This work further identifies 69 lncRNAs associated with immunotherapy response and 2,611 differentially expressed lncRNAs between low and high objective response rate (ORR) groups. Social capital is important for individual and societal advancement. For individuals, social capital helps one advance in the organizational hierarchy but also flows to communities as these individuals are more likely to volunteer for non-profit organizations and pool their resources to advance societal causes. This paper argues that one overlooked mechanism for generating social capital is through service learning. Service learning benefits students not only academically, but professionally as it helps students connect with voluntary organizations, often composed of individuals of means. This paper examines how retrieval practice and student-centered learning—core principles of the Science of Learning—can transform university instruction. Grounded in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, the manuscript describes instructional strategies implemented in a redesigned teacher preparation course, including exit tickets, Frayer models, literature circles, choice boards, and collaborative teams. Each strategy operationalizes key learning mechanisms such as retrieval, feedback, reflection, and cognitive load reduction, shifting cognitive effort from instructor to learner. The findings highlight how retrieval-based, student-centered routines enhance engagement, retention, and transfer, offering adaptable approaches for faculty across higher education disciplines.

This thesis investigates whether embodied human expression—captured through facial and full-body motion—can be translated into musically coherent behaviour using time-series machine learning and real-time generative systems. The project develops and evaluates a multimodal framework that links participant-specific emotion inference to an interpretable, artist-configurable generative music system.Across two sensing modalities, personalised BiLSTM-based models achieved ~99%window-level validation accuracy within participants under a strict leak-free protocol, with no evidence of overfitting. These models were deployed within a low-latency real-time inference system. Using a qualitative, practitioner-oriented design grounded in template analysis, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with thirty professionals from diverse sectors of the economy of the canton of Geneva. Grounded in social cognitive theory and supported by constructivist learning theory, the study set out to evaluate the internal structure, reliability, and validity of the 4HSS using archival data from Grades 6–8 students in Hawai‘i public schools. The purpose of this study is to identify the lived experiences of CSU sociology graduate students pursuing a master’s degree. Seven sociology graduate students from six of the eight (75%) total sociology MA programs throughout the entire CSU system were interviewed. Their responses were designed to analyze the support systems and challenges they face while pursuing a master's degree, as well as to investigate whether their experiences correlate with or fail to correlate with the promises in the CSU mission statement, and to answer the study’s research questions and achieve the purpose of this qualitative study.

This study took a closer look at how high school teachers perceive the ongoing teacher shortage, with particular attention to how workplace conditions and the broader school climate impact whether they choose to stay in the profession. Special focus was given to teachers in their first five years, a group especially vulnerable to early attrition. This qualitative multiple case study explored the lived experiences of stepparents of children with autism spectrum disorder, examining how they navigate their roles within school and family systems during early elementary years (kindergarten through second grade). This qualitative exploratory case study examined how participation in a nonprofit creative writing program in northern California influenced the cognitive development, emotional well-being, communication skills, empathy, and perspective taking of young adults. Education for democracy requires intentional, justice-centered educator preparation. Justice-centered educator preparation programs must engage future teachers in applying critically conscious lenses across learning experiences while equipping them to design instruction that fosters those same lenses in their future students.
