Translating Higher Education Into Vietnamese: An Applied Linguistics Approach To Language Equity And Higher Education Access, Z.W. Taylor, Alan Do, Jase Kugiya, Tuan Le
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
One growing population of non-native English speakers in the U.S. education system are native Vietnamese speakers, yet no studies have examined how higher education communication could be made more accessible for Vietnamese speakers. As a result, this case study reports on human and machine translational linguistics work conducted in partnership with the University of Iowa focused on simplifying and translating English enrollment management information into Vietnamese. Findings suggest that the institution increased the clarity and accessibility of enrollment management information by using second-person pronouns, shorter sentence structures, clearer diction, and explanations of institution-specific jargon. Moreover, analyses of machine and human …

Assessing The Reliability Of Machine Learning Models In Classifying Depression Severity Using Facebook Text, Keito Yoneyama
Chulalongkorn Medical Journal
Depression is a growing global issue that requires urgent attention, particularly in Thailand. Without timely intervention, it can lead to serious consequences such as health complications, reduced social participation, and even suicide. Consequently, there has been increased research focused on developing algorithms to identify and classify social media data according to depression severity. This study aimed to evaluate the extent to which such algorithms are a suitable tool for the preliminary classification of Thai Facebook text into different levels of depression severity. The methodology involved data collection through surveys and Facebook scraping, followed by data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model …

The Normative Status Of States' Obligations To Mitigate The Climate Crisis: Implications For The Right To Adequate Housing, Erna Dyah Kusumawati, Sasmini Sasmini
Padjadjaran Jurnal Ilmu Hukum (Journal of Law)
The convergence of the global climate crisis, pursuant to the UNFCCC Paris Agreement and its implementing protocols as well as the fundamental right to housing has fundamentally disrupted established legal paradigms, necessitating a rigorous re-examination of the normative status of state obligations. This paper examines the scope of governmental responsibility to mitigate climate-induced threats to housing security. Drawing upon international human rights frameworks and contemporary legal discourse, the study interrogates the complex friction emerging at the intersection of environmental mandates and housing protections. Through a systematic analysis of the existing literature and recent developments in the international climate change framework, …
Tracking Toward Zero: Implementing A Picc Team Tracker To Prevent Clabsis, Christian Justin Carreon
Tracking Toward Zero: Implementing A Picc Team Tracker To Prevent Clabsis, Christian Justin Carreon
Master's Projects and Capstones
Problem: Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) remain a significant and preventable patient safety concern in acute care settings, contributing to increased morbidity, mortality, prolonged hospitalization, and substantial healthcare costs.
Context: At Hospital A, a tertiary referral center in Northern California, six adult CLABSIs were identified between June and December 2025 following an eight-month CLABSI-free period. Four events occurred in adult medical surgical telemetry. All peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line CLABSIs were attributed to gaps in maintenance bundle adherence and the lack of a standardized, real-time tracking mechanism for the PICC Team.
Interventions: A PICC Team Tracker was implemented as …
Waves Of Exhaustion, Currents Of Renewal: An Autoethnography Of Academic Emotional Burnout And Recovery, Rofiza Aboo Bakar
Waves Of Exhaustion, Currents Of Renewal: An Autoethnography Of Academic Emotional Burnout And Recovery, Rofiza Aboo Bakar
The Qualitative Report
This autoethnography explores my experience of academic burnout and emotional recovery as a mid-career female educator in a Malaysian public university. Drawing from reflective journals, memory work, and embodied recollections between 2023 and 2025, I trace a personal journey through three experiential phases: the weight of expectations, burnout and emotional rupture, and embodied recovery through open sea swimming. The narrative is guided by Chang’s (2016) thematic structuring approach and interpreted through Lazarus and Folkman’s (1984) Transactional Model of Stress and Coping. My story reveals how burnout was not the result of overwork, but of institutional erasure. As I navigated the …

Truly Blown Away — Humanistic Lens Looking At Glassblowers’ Creative Thinking: A Qualitative Case Study, Yugant Patra
The Qualitative Report
This study examines how emotional and cognitive engagement shape glassblowing artists’ decision-making and artistic outcomes throughout the creative process. Using a qualitative case study methodology, the study examines how glassblowing artists conceptualize, execute, and refine their work by balancing their artistic vision with the medium's technical demands through a humanistic lens. Five themes emerge, which are discussed: the identification with self – confronting the demons, I belong here, claiming the molten as my own, the reign of glass and from it fractures rising anew, and having a conversation with glass. The study closes with the need for continued research on …
A Post-Positivist Perspective On The Varieties Of Qualitative Research: The Foris Framework, Marius Bytautas
A Post-Positivist Perspective On The Varieties Of Qualitative Research: The Foris Framework, Marius Bytautas
The Qualitative Report
With the aim of bringing clarity to the realm of qualitative research—and offering a transition from tradition to methodological rationale—I employ Millian and Popperian inductive analysis methods to build a post-positivist account regarding the diversity of qualitative research varieties. I am responding to the problem that common labels in qualitative research often obscure the epistemic reasoning through which a study approaches its object. A brief set of working definitions is introduced to support the framework, but the main contribution is the conceptualization of research approach in five dimensions: focus, orientation, relation to the object, researcher intrusiveness, and scale (FORIS). By …
Community-Based Research: Key Considerations For Researchers And Community Partners When Collaborating, Bothwell Piason, Kathleen A. Fox
Community-Based Research: Key Considerations For Researchers And Community Partners When Collaborating, Bothwell Piason, Kathleen A. Fox
The Qualitative Report
Community-based research (CBR) is a research orientation that emphasizes equitable engagement in the process of knowledge production, though researchers and community partners may navigate collaborative partnerships with differing expectations, priorities, and understandings of success. Extant research has demonstrated that successful CBR partnerships can benefit both researchers and community partners, yet little is known about how both groups simultaneously conceptualize successful collaboration across diverse partnership contexts. In this study, we ask: What considerations do researchers and community partners identify as important when engaging in community-based research partnerships? Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 10 university researchers and 10 community partners engaged in …
The Lived Spirituality Experiences Of Adult Diabetes Patients In Adhering To Treatment, Dwight Mahaputera Marulitua Hutapea
The Lived Spirituality Experiences Of Adult Diabetes Patients In Adhering To Treatment, Dwight Mahaputera Marulitua Hutapea
The Qualitative Report
This descriptive phenomenological study explored the lived spirituality experiences of adult patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in adhering to treatment. Prior research has indicated that spirituality may influence attitudes toward and adherence to chronic disease management; however, empirical evidence addressing the spiritual dimension among people with diabetes remains limited. Guided by Colaizzi's (1978) phenomenological method, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 purposively selected participants, equally distributed among Christians and Muslims. All interviews were transcribed verbatim and subjected to rigorous phenomenological analysis. Seven themes emerged from the data analysis: (a) spirituality strengthens relationships; (b) spirituality affects choices and outcomes; …
Relational-Developmental Autoethnography: A Method Of Qualitative Inquiry That Fosters Personal Growth, Chris Wells
Relational-Developmental Autoethnography: A Method Of Qualitative Inquiry That Fosters Personal Growth, Chris Wells
The Qualitative Report
This paper introduces relational–developmental autoethnography (RDA), a qualitative method for exploring psychological growth through personal writing and reflection. Developed through lived experience, RDA traces psychological development through sustained, recursive engagement with personal writing. Drawing on an archive of my journals, letters, clinical records, and correspondence spanning more than 30 years, I show how writing and reflection were first tools for my survival, and later became catalysts for insight, healing, and transformation. RDA is grounded in two developmental frameworks: Dąbrowski’s theory of positive disintegration, which views emotional intensity and inner conflict as signs of developmental potential, and relational-cultural theory, which …
Moralized Indulgence In The Age Of Inflation: How “Better-For-You” Dessert Brands Reframe Pleasure As Self-Care, Dariya Savrukova
Moralized Indulgence In The Age Of Inflation: How “Better-For-You” Dessert Brands Reframe Pleasure As Self-Care, Dariya Savrukova
Honors College Theses
In the modern U.S. food landscape, the line between indulgence and wellness has nearly disappeared. The booming “better-for-you” dessert industry, owned primarily by multinational giants such as Mondelēz International, PepsiCo, and Mars Inc., reframes high-sugar, high-calorie treats as acts of self-discipline or self-care. This phenomenon is often referred to as “healthwashing” (Tufts Health & Nutrition Letter, 2022), when through verbal and visual language, these companies transform indulgence into moral consumption, inviting consumers to feel virtuous through consumption. Many consumers crave stability and health, but navigate an environment saturated with manipulative design and ambiguous claims. “Better-for-you” branding exploits this gap by …

Business Management Review
This study examines the influence of managerial attitudes and dynamic capabilities on e-marketing adoption among Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs) in Zanzibar. Grounded in the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behaviour (DTPB) and Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), the study tests the effects of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, compatibility, and perceived security on e-marketing adoption, with dynamic capabilities examined as a moderating factor. Data were collected from 216 SMTEs operating in the Urban and South Regions of Zanzibar and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that perceived ease of use and perceived security …

The Effect Of External Auditors’ Competence And Independence On The Cost-Saving Of Audit Recommendations: Evidence From Tanzanian Local Government Authorities, Lenatusi Leonard L. Munyangabi, Henry Zeno Chalu, Keregero M. Chirongo
Business Management Review
This study examined the effect of external auditors’ competence and independence on the cost-saving of audit recommendations among Tanzanian Local Government Authorities (LGAs). Persistent non-implementation of audit recommendations in developing countries raises concerns regarding the extent to which audit reports contribute to fiscal prudence and resource efficiency. Grounded in the Theory of Inspired Confidence and Stewardship Theory, the study hypothesized that competent and independent auditors enhance the cost-saving potential of audit recommendations. A descriptive-explanatory design was employed, involving 345 respondents drawn from 126 selected LGAs. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed through multiple regression analysis. Both independent variables …

Gender Inequality In Political Participation: Focusing On Social Structure, Legal Instrument, And Social And Cultural Change, Eakpant Pindavanija
Indonesia Law Review
The transition of Thailand's political system from absolute monarchy to parliamentary constitutional monarchy in 1932 brought about opportunity in developing democratic society in this country. However, 90 years after the political transition Thailand is still struggling to pursue democratic stability while the degree of authoritarianism is very high due to several political, economic, and social factors. This circumstance raises concerns on the democratic development in this country. This paper is written based on Westminster Foundation for Democracy (Thailand)’s preliminary report on situation analysis of gender equality for the female and other genders who are the candidates, and potential candidates to …

The Experience Of Bipoc Participants In Wilderness Therapy, Rachel Esrig
The Experience Of Bipoc Participants In Wilderness Therapy, Rachel Esrig
Doctoral Dissertations
Wilderness therapy is an alternative to residential treatment for adolescents and young adults. Although these programs predominantly serve White-identifying individuals, a proportion of participants identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC). Research has shown that race and ethnicity shape individuals’ experiences with mental health treatment; however, no studies to date have specifically explored the experiences of BIPOC individuals in wilderness therapy programs. This qualitative study addresses that gap by examining the experiences of BIPOC individuals who participated in wilderness therapy during adolescence. Using an interpretive phenomenological approach, nine themes emerged from the data. Findings suggest that participants’ levels …

Resilience Ain’T Free: Surviving And Resisting While Navigating Well-Being As Black School Social Workers In California’S Bay Area, Ashley Lynnette Bonton
Doctoral Dissertations
The well-being of school-based mental health professionals is critical to the functioning of educational systems, yet the experiences of Black school social workers remain largely absent from existing research. Black school social workers often navigate complex professional demands while also confronting racialized expectations, systemic inequities, and emotional labor within predominantly white educational institutions. This qualitative study examines how Black school social workers in the San Francisco Bay Area navigate their personal and professional well-being within these conditions. Guided by Ecological Systems Theory and Critical Race Theory, this study explores how multiple environmental contexts and racialized institutional dynamics shape their experiences. …

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: Compromised sensory integration, reflecting disruptions in neuroplasticity and commonly observed among children with developmental disabilities (DDs), is associated with difficulties in daily functioning and motor and social skills (Rodríguez-Armendariz et al., 2024). Interventions including sensory integration and exergame approaches have demonstrated benefits for enhancing neuroplasticity and functional outcomes (Cardenas et al., 2022). However, clinic-based sensory integration therapy often limits family involvement. We aim to develop and evaluate a home-based digital exergame for children with DDs and their families.
Purpose: This study describes the procedures for developing and assessing the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of the digital exergame.
