In order to comply with state physical activity policies and increase physical activity of students, schools have begun to implement classroom exercise breaks. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of existing classroom exercise breaks in elementary schools in central South Carolina. Principals in elementary schools in central South Carolina were invited to participate in a brief online survey and phone interview about classroom exercise breaks. Principals reported varied types of classroom exercise breaks but described many benefits of exercise breaks including improved student behavior and attention. Excess weight among children is a growing concern for parents and professionals. Daily physical activity of children in early learning settings has not been well researched. However, there is increasing attention being given to this issue. The White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity submitted a report in 2011 identifying settings, programs and policies that support the prevention of obesity for young children (F as in Fat 2010 p. 68). This action research study focused on how the implementation of classroom roles and responsibilities affected fifth grade African American male students' achievement within their learning environment. This study grew from a need to enhance the achievement of this group within the school, as based on previous standardized test data as well as classroom observations and fall discipline data. The assignment and facilitation of roles and responsibilities within the learning environment encouraged a common productive space and an ownership of the learning to shift and be shared among all members. TikTok and Instagram have become global platforms where Generation Z influencers engage audiences through lifestyle content. Lasallian students influencers experience complexities when balancing their idealized online image, identity, moral responsibilities, and the psycho-emotional impacts of content creation while still following the values of De La Salle University-Manila. The study employed a descriptive qualitative design and conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with eight Lasallian influencers, aged 18–27, who create content on TikTok and Instagram. In recent years, Fall Armyworm (FAW) reports have steadily increased in warmer regions of various continents, causing significant losses in the agricultural sector, especially in staple crops such as rice, corn, and sorghum. The pest species travels across warmer areas by riding wind currents and targeting crops. Diabetes is a global health concern, leading to increased efforts to explore alternative treatments. Annona muricata, commonly known as Guyabano, is frequently used in traditional medicine, particularly its leaves and fruits, to alleviate symptoms associated with diabetes. However, despite its widespread use, limited research has explored the molecular mechanisms of bioactive compounds in A. muricata leaves in relation to anti-diabetic effects. Foodborne illnesses cause millions of deaths annually, posing a significant public health concern, particularly in regions with thriving street food cultures like the Philippines. This study investigated how sugar content and pH levels in street food dipping sauces affect microbial growth. Six sauce samples were prepared with varying sugar (25g, 50g, 75g) and pH levels (4.0, 3.6, 3.1). Microbial load was measured using the Standard Plate Count (SPC) method. While a moderate sugar concentration (50g) showed the lowest microbial load, this difference was not statistically significant (p=0.77). However, pH significantly impacted microbial growth (p=0.0034), with pH 3.6 showing the lowest …

Bacterial contamination of chicken meat poses significant health and economic risks globally. This study explored the potential of Avocado Peel Extract (APE) as a natural antimicrobial agent to inhibit microbial load. Raw chicken meat samples were treated with varying APE concentrations (10%, 1%, 0.1%) and a negative control. Microbial Load Count (MLC), measured in colony-forming units per gram (CFU/g) via Aerobic Plate Count (APC) after 24-hour incubation at 37°C, ranged from 1.73E+09 CFU/g (Control, 10% APE (1.83E+09 CFU/g), 1% APE (3.03E+09 CFU/g), 0.1% APE (2.17E+09 CFU/g). Cancer is a large group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells, which can invade any organ or tissue. According to WHO (2025), cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or approximately one in six deaths. Despite significant advancements in cancer treatments over the years, such as radiation and chemotherapy, commonly used post-surgical complementary therapies can cause adverse side effects, including nerve damage, fatigue, and chronic pain. Purpose: Investigators delivered an asynchronous parent education for improving early literacy skills of typically developing preschoolers. The home-based shared-book reading program, PEEL, consisted of strategies modeled via videos and sent as text messages.
Method: Twenty parent-child dyads were randomly assigned to one of two 8-week programs targeting evidence-based early literacy strategies. One parent group was taught strategies to support print-related knowledge for learning to read, and the other learned skills to promote vocabulary and story knowledge underlying comprehension.

The nexus between food security and armed conflict, with particular focus on developing countries, has been analyzed by a few studies in the literature. Every country under armed conflict is obligated to solve related food security issues. Therefore, the overall objective of this study was to analyze the nexus between households’ food security and armed conflicts in the context of climate change in Mali. Ethnobotanical Study Of Medicinal Plants Used By The Local Population In And Around Kozak Plateau (Bergama, İzmir, Türkiye), Şükrü Arasan, Hasan Yildirim

This research was conducted between 2020 and 2022 in 21 villages located on the Kozak Plateau and its surroundings, in the Bergama district of İzmir province, Türkiye. The main aim of the study is to document the medicinal uses of plants by the local population and to contribute to the preservation and transmission of ethnobotanical knowledge—passed down through generations— to future generations before it disappears. Interviews were conducted with 159 informants, and the traditional medicinal uses of 126 plant taxa belonging to 54 families were identified. Among these, the therapeutic uses of 37 taxa were recorded for the first time. …

ObjectivesClinical psychology interventions for reducing obesity have developed alongside pharmacological and surgical treatments, but usually as interventions for individual patients. Any healthcare intervention rests on a logic model: assumptions that through specific physical and social mechanisms, it will produce certain intended outcomes, provided that conducive background conditions (‘contexts’) exist. Using evidence from the feasibility trial preceding a full randomised controlled trial (RCT), this paper assesses the empirical validity of the initial logic model of a new group-based weight management intervention: PROGROUP, designed for patients with body mass index (BMI) ≥40 kg/m2 or ≥35 kg/m2 with comorbidities. Heavy metals are natural components of the environment and can be relatively non-impactful in low concentrations. However, high concentrations of heavy metal toxicity can result in air, water, and soil contamination that adversely impacts environmental, human, and wildlife health. This study focuses on detecting the presence of heavy metals in soil, Loblolly Pine tree bark, and wood core samples from sites near a landfill in the Tallassee, Alabama, community and a post-agricultural site in Tuskegee, Alabama. The system of rice intensification (SRI) was implemented in Mali to boost rice productivity. The objectives of this paper are to identify the constraints faced by SRI adopters, estimate the food security index, and assess the impact of in-depth adoption of SRI on smallholder farm households’ food security. The study uses Kendall’s ranking to rank the six main constraints identified from the literature. Transcriptome Profiling Of Silique Lncrnas Reveals Novel Insights Into Silique Length In Radish (Raphanus Sativus L.), Xiaomin Yu, Yuxin Zhu, Zhoubo Guan, Shisheng Li

Radish is a widely cultivated vegetable with known medicinal value and produces siliques that differ significantly in number and size. The present study compares normal Duanye-13 radish (CK-type) siliques with mutant radish siliques induced by chemical mutagenesis at the young (YS), short (SS), and long (LS) silique stages. Differences in long noncoding ribonucleic acid (lncRNA) expression were investigated using high-throughput RNA sequencing and bioinformatic analyses, revealing 45 324 new lncRNAs in radish siliques. lncRNA expression was higher in YS and LS mutant lines than in CK-type lines, and expression in SS mutants tended to be lower than in CK-type lines. …

Background: Zein-based nanoparticles exhibit considerable potential for pharmaceutical and food applications. Incorporating inulin, a prebiotic polysaccharide, can improve their functional performance. This study explores the potential of squash (Cucurbita maxima L.) seeds, an underutilized agricultural waste product, as a feedstock for biodiesel production. The resulting biodiesel was compared to a conventional biodiesel from waste soya bean cooking oil, focusing on the parameters of kinematic viscosity and flashpoint. A 1:10 (w/v) sample-to-solvent ratio was utilized through Soxhlet extraction, followed by rotary evaporation to maximize oil extraction. Subsequently, acid-base titration determines the oil’s Free Fatty Acid (FFA) content to be 2.08%, indicating its suitability for base-catalyzed transesterification. This study analyzes the influence of subliminal advertising as a form of emotional marketing on the consumer behavior of students from De La Salle University. It examines how subtle, subconscious advertising techniques used by coffee shops can affect purchasing decisions and emotional connections with brands. The research aims to: (1) analyze the effects of subliminal advertisement on consumer behavior, (2) examine their emotional impact on students aged 18–24, and (3) identify which emotions are most effective in promoting customer engagement and repurchasing.
