Beat By Beat: Empowering Communities With Lifesaving Cpr Skills, Allyssa Mb Hutchins
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Introduction: This doctoral project was created to increase bystanders' willingness and ability to perform CPR by building their confidence in performing it effectively. A total of 13 participants participated in this project to increase knowledge and confidence in CPR interventions.
Background: Cardiac arrests remain a leading cause of death, yet research indicates that rural communities have lower rates of bystanders trained and willing to assist. Increasing CPR awareness and eliminating barriers to care for classes can improve CPR confidence and have a positive community impact.
Methods: Three 4-hour CPR classes were held in Zirconia, NC, at no …
Opioid Abuse: Community Education, Meggan N. Wolff-Jackson
Opioid Abuse: Community Education, Meggan N. Wolff-Jackson
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The opioid epidemic in the United States has persisted for over two decades and has become one of the leading causes of accidental deaths nationwide (Robert et al., 2022). The opioid crisis represents a widespread public health emergency that extends beyond individual and community boundaries, imposing burdens on both the national economy and the healthcare system (Kyei et al., 2024). Although the opioid epidemic is a global concern, it is particularly concerning in the target community located in the western part of North Carolina. This region has some of the highest rates of opioid overdoses within the state, with 118 …

Enhancing Uncontrolled Hypertension Compliance And Self-Management In A Senior Center, Kimberly D. Strickland
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Hypertension is a complicated, chronic condition that affects individuals worldwide. The prevalence of this condition has increased nearly 48% in the last decade in America. This project served to determine if participants in a targeted area/community would show increased knowledge and awareness of hypertension after implementation of educational sessions. A post-session survey was provided to determine if the educational sessions were effective. Data was collected and analyzed that showed an increase in awareness and knowledge regarding the prevalence of hypertension, diet modification, lifestyle, and compliance.
Teacher Self-Efficacy Perceptions For Technology Integration And Social Media Use As Instructional Tools: Future Implications For Pedagogy In Trinidad And Tobago, Paula Edwards Sealey
Teacher Self-Efficacy Perceptions For Technology Integration And Social Media Use As Instructional Tools: Future Implications For Pedagogy In Trinidad And Tobago, Paula Edwards Sealey
Dissertations
Problem
As the educational landscape in Trinidad and Tobago evolve post COVID-19, gaining an understanding of the purpose of teachers in the implementation of national and ministerial ICT policies seem imperative. The exploration of teacher’s personal belief about their ability to effectively infuse technology and social media with their traditional teaching practices, may provide much needed insight about the role that teacher self-efficacy plays in this educational shift (Caner & Aydin, 2021; Phillip & Cain, 2015). Very few studies in the local and regional literature involve teacher self-efficacy as a variable of interest. Moreso, there has been no research to …
Validation Of The Touch/Bonding Sense Of The Five Senses Model Of Intimacy As A Spiritually Based Whole-Person Lifestyle Approach To Intimacy In Dating And Marital Relationships, Karen J. Holland
Dissertations
Problem
Intimacy is in crisis and is being culturally defined and redefined through a number of influencing factors. These include the ongoing development of individualist and narcissistic relationships; the fragmentation of human wholeness; the influence of social media and an increasingly entertainment focused society; the permeation of technology influencing personal choice and lifestyle, including the use of generative AI; and the diminishing influence of Judeo-Christian principles and values as key drivers in the development of life-long marriage relationships. This study seeks to address the need for establishing a foundation for relational intimacy based on the biblical relationship demonstrated by God’s …
When Social Inflation Pushes The "Good Neighbor" Away: How Market Exit Behavior Triggers Brand Betrayal And Trust Erosion, Waros Ngamsiriudom, Mohan Menon, Mitra Devkota
When Social Inflation Pushes The "Good Neighbor" Away: How Market Exit Behavior Triggers Brand Betrayal And Trust Erosion, Waros Ngamsiriudom, Mohan Menon, Mitra Devkota
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Social inflation, marked by rising litigation severity, shifting jury attitudes, and expanding third-party litigation funding, has intensified financial pressures on insurers operating in disaster-prone markets. In response, many insurers have withdrawn or restricted coverage, creating a sharp disconnect between long-standing brand promises and current market behaviors. This article examines how these systemic pressures produce “brand betrayal,” a consumer perception arising when insurers’ market exit actions contradict their relational positioning as reliable, community-oriented partners. Drawing on signaling theory, relationship marketing, and institutional perspectives, the article develops a conceptual framework linking social inflation to brand trust erosion through market exit behavior. The …
Slow Fashion Behavior In Young Consumers, Melissa Clark
Slow Fashion Behavior In Young Consumers, Melissa Clark
Atlantic Marketing Journal
The purpose of this research is to better understand the gap between Generation Z’s (Gen Z) knowingness and attitude toward sustainable clothing and their behavior including repair and disposal. A theoretical model was created based on the known relationships among Knowledge-Attitude-Behavior (KAB), specifically considering environmental sustainability knowingness (ESK), environmental sustainability attitude (ESA), and slow fashion behavior (SFB) while extending it with the addition of repair and disposal. The data were collected via online survey of consumers identifying as Gen Z and analyzed via regression analysis in SPSS. The findings suggest that the established construct relationships (ESK, ESA, and SFB) held …
Sweet Skepticism: Health Consciousness And Consumer Resistance To Health-Oriented Gummy Products, Raghava Gundala Dr, Kathleen Mckee, Pritosh Kumar
Sweet Skepticism: Health Consciousness And Consumer Resistance To Health-Oriented Gummy Products, Raghava Gundala Dr, Kathleen Mckee, Pritosh Kumar
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Health consciousness is usually modeled as a driver of demand for healthier food. This study asks what happens to that relationship when the product itself is indulgent. Survey data were collected from students at a public university in the United States, and a first-stage moderated mediation model (PROCESS Model 7) was estimated on the 231 respondents with complete data. After adjustment for perceived marketing effectiveness and demographic covariates, health consciousness was negatively related to perceptions of health-oriented gummy products and to purchase frequency, although its zero-order correlation with product perception was near zero. Part of the health-consciousness relationship with purchase …

Picturing The Past: The Role Of Photo Cue Visual Perspective On Positive Autobiographical Memory Recall In Dysphoria, Sarah Snow, Zachary Adolph Niese, Julie L Ji
School of Psychology
Positive autobiographical memory plays a key role in emotional well-being and is distorted by cognitive processing biases in dysphoria. This experiment investigated how the visual perspectives (first-person vs. third-person) of personal photographs influence recall of positive memories depending on dysphoria. Eighty-five participants (42 low dysphoria, 43 high dysphoria) submitted photos of positive events from both perspectives. Later, participants recalled these events while viewing either a first- or third-person photo before rating and describing their memory. While first-person photos promoted more recall from an own-eyes vantage point regardless of dysphoria level, dysphoria was still associated with greater observer-like recall, reduced mental …

Department of Family and Community Medicine Faculty Publications
Background: As AI fundamentally transforms the healthcare landscape, medical education curricula have struggled to keep pace with these technological shifts. While current research has established a foundation for general AI literacy, less attention has been given to the role-specific competencies required for the diverse functions that healthcare professionals perform in an AI-integrated environment. Although existing tiered and domain-based competency models have clarified general AI competency requirements, they offer limited guidance on how such competencies should be differentiated according to the roles healthcare professionals perform in practice.
Objective: This study aimed to explore how AI-driven changes in healthcare shape competency requirements …
Building Capacity For Change At The Inter-Lakes School District: Modifying Professional Development To Support The Transformation To Competency-Based Education, Erica Pappalardo
Building Capacity For Change At The Inter-Lakes School District: Modifying Professional Development To Support The Transformation To Competency-Based Education, Erica Pappalardo
Doctor of Education
Since 1998, the New Hampshire Department of Education has supported the integration of competency-based education (CBE), promoting a shift from traditional time-based models toward mastery-based, personalized learning. While important progress has been made through pilot programs and local innovations, full system-wide transformation remains incomplete. Many districts, including the Inter-Lakes School District (ILSD), continue to face challenges in dismantling entrenched structures and fully operationalizing CBE principles. One critical gap is the lack of a clearly defined, job-embedded professional development (PD) model that prepares educators to lead the shift to learner-centered, competency-based practices, a pathway to disrupt traditional systems. This study investigates …
When Play Fades And Screens Rise: Teachers' And Parents' Lived Experiences Of The Push-Down Of Academics In Kindergarten, Rachel L. Hunter
When Play Fades And Screens Rise: Teachers' And Parents' Lived Experiences Of The Push-Down Of Academics In Kindergarten, Rachel L. Hunter
Doctor of Education
In the span of a single generation federal mandates have transformed kindergarten from a place of play into an academic pressure zone. This study is grounded in early childhood education, child development, and educational policy, with a focus on heightened academic expectations in kindergarten alongside the rising influence of digital technology in young children’s lives. It addresses two questions: (1) How has the reduction or elimination of play in kindergarten impacted children’s peer-to-peer engagement? and (2) What role, if any, does digital technology play in compounding this shift? This phenomenological study employs qualitative, transformative action-research methods to examine the lived …

Critical Success Factors For An Effective Security Risk Management Program: An Exploratory Case Study, Jason A. Williams, Humayun Zafar, Saurabh Gupta
Faculty Articles
This paper evaluates the perceived effectiveness of the security risk management (SRM) programs at a Fortune 500 firm. Layers of management and staff participated in the study. Perceived effectiveness of their SRM programs was based on nine critical success factors (CSFs). Interviews confirmed six initial CSFs (Executive Management Support, Organizational Maturity, Open Communication, Risk Management Stakeholders, Team Member Empowerment, and Holistic View of an Organization) that were extracted from the literature. They were confirmed and synthesized with three additional CSFs (Security Maintenance, Corporate Security Strategy, and Human Resource Development). Implications for SRM are discussed.

The Influence Of Black African American Fathers’ Parenting Styles On Young Adult Children’S Attachment Styles: The Roles Of Gender And Fathers’ Residence, Robert Baptiste Thompson
Dissertations
Parenting
Black African American (BAA) fathers in the United States are frequently mischaracterized as absent or uninvolved, reinforcing deficit-based narratives rooted in historical and systemic racism. Such portrayals obscure the meaningful and sustained roles many BAA fathers play in their families and fail to account for the cultural, structural, and contextual conditions that shape paternal involvement and parenting practices. Although a growing body of research has documented the importance of father involvement for child development, comparatively limited empirical attention has been given to how BAA fathers’ parenting styles influence their children’s attachment—particularly as a function of fathers’ co-residency histories. This …
Beyonce´, The Womanist Entertainer: Womanism, Anti-Racism And Cultural Pride In Beyonce´ Knowles Carter’S Music, Nena Carpenter
Beyonce´, The Womanist Entertainer: Womanism, Anti-Racism And Cultural Pride In Beyonce´ Knowles Carter’S Music, Nena Carpenter
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
This research explores the latter portion of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s career and her distinguishing herself as a womanist/feminist icon. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has been regarded as a popular music icon since her days as the lead singer in the R&B group Destiny's Child. The group’s music, including songs like "Say My Name" and "Independent Women", have often been recognized by cultural critics as empowerment anthems for women and girls. When Beyoncé performed at the Video Music Awards in 2014, the sample of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's 2013 Ted Talk on feminism in her song "Flawless" precipitated a more focused discourse about the authenticity …
An Autoethnography Of A Scholar Practitioner: Applying Social-Emotional Learning In A Math Classroom Through A Feminist Lens, Resha Layla Hissen
An Autoethnography Of A Scholar Practitioner: Applying Social-Emotional Learning In A Math Classroom Through A Feminist Lens, Resha Layla Hissen
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
Math anxiety occurs when individuals experience fear and stress while engaging in mathematical tasks (Lopez-Ramírez et al., 2025). While math anxiety is often examined through its impact on students, this autoethnography explores it through the lived experience of a Middle Eastern female mathematician and educator. Grounded in social-emotional learning (SEL) and feminist theory, this study investigates how personal, cultural, and gender-related experiences of mathematical trauma have shaped the author’s pedagogical approach. By tracing a personal journey from anxiety and emotional suppression to empowerment and reflective teaching, this work highlights strategies for integrating SEL and feminist-informed practices into K-12 public school …
Healing Attachment Wounds Through Romantic Love: Exploring Narratives Of Earned Security, Ashlyn Griffith
Healing Attachment Wounds Through Romantic Love: Exploring Narratives Of Earned Security, Ashlyn Griffith
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
This dissertation explored how earned attachment security is experienced and developed within long-term romantic relationships through couples’ shared narratives. Using dyadic interviews, the study focused on romantic partners in which one individual demonstrated continuous attachment security while the other described a shift toward earned security over time. Although existing attachment research has examined the traits that encourage security in other relational contexts, limited research has explored the lived attachment experiences of couples or their shared understanding of how security develops within romantic love. Five long-term romantic couples participated in semi-structured dyadic interviews designed to elicit shared narratives of relationship development, …
Botox Detection And Face Analytics Using Deep Learning, Audison Beaubrun, Gabriella Pangelinan, Michael King
Botox Detection And Face Analytics Using Deep Learning, Audison Beaubrun, Gabriella Pangelinan, Michael King
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications
Non-surgical cosmetic procedures like Botox are increasingly common, yet their impact on facial analytics systems remains unexplored. We curate a novel dataset of 1,990 before-and-after images from 390 individuals who received cosmetic injectables. Using this dataset, we demonstrate that these subtle facial modifications measurably affect age estimation: FairFace and FaceXFormer show statistically significant shifts toward younger age estimates (-1.43 and-3.27 years, p <0.05), while MiVOLO remains stable. We also show these modifications are detectable: training deep learning models (ResNet-50, DenseNet-121, ConvNeXt-Tiny) to classify cosmetically-altered faces achieves up to 89% accuracy. Our findings reveal that even minor, non-surgical facial changes can bias age-based analytics and are algorithmically detectable-raising critical concerns for privacy, fairness, and robustness as facial analytics expand into high-stakes domains like insurance, hiring, and health assessment. © 2026, Florida Online Journals, University of Florida. Lease Capitalization And Financial Flexibility: An Empirical Investigation Of Asc 842’S Impact On Liquidity In The Us Telecommunications Industry, Caleb J. Martin
Lease Capitalization And Financial Flexibility: An Empirical Investigation Of Asc 842’S Impact On Liquidity In The Us Telecommunications Industry, Caleb J. Martin
Doctor of Business Administration Dissertations
Measures of liquidity are some of the most important financial ratios to analyze when measuring a firm’s overall financial health and its ability to pay both creditors and dividends. The US telecommunications industry is an industry that has become synonymous with dividends, mergers, and acquisitions, all of which are possible due to industry wide and firm specific liquidity. With the implementation of ASC 842 and the new standard of placing operational leases on the balance sheet, additional research may be warranted to determine the effect ASC 842 may have on firm liquidity. This study investigated whether there was evidence to …
Taxing Ai, Assaf Harpaz
Taxing Ai, Assaf Harpaz
Scholarly Works
Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to transform the distribution and sources of income, with some experts predicting widespread job displacement. Even under optimistic projections, AI is expected to exacerbate wealth inequality, given that the technology’s ownership and immense value are concentrated within a subset of Big Tech companies and AI startups. These outcomes will have far-reaching impacts on the federal tax system, which heavily relies on taxing individual labor income and payroll, rather than capital or consumption.
This Article argues that AI threatens to disrupt the tax system’s ability to fulfill its fundamental goals of raising revenue, redistributing income, and …
From Privacy To The Data Economy: The Ftc’S Reframing Of Its Regulatory Priorities, Maria P. Angel
From Privacy To The Data Economy: The Ftc’S Reframing Of Its Regulatory Priorities, Maria P. Angel
Scholarly Works
This Article argues that the Federal Trade Commission’s turn to “commercial surveillance” reflects a strategic shift away from traditional privacy frameworks toward addressing structural power dynamics in the data economy. Drawing on an analysis of 112 FTC documents, it identifies three core commitments: tackling systemic harms, adopting a political economy lens, and constraining corporate power. The Article contends that this reframing is both necessary in the AI age and should influence the future of privacy regulation in the United States, even amid efforts to limit the FTC’s authority.
Abandoning Press Freedom, Ronnell Andersen Jones, Sonja R. West
Abandoning Press Freedom, Ronnell Andersen Jones, Sonja R. West
Scholarly Works
Among elected officials and the broader public, attitudes toward the press are deeply polarized along ideological lines. Polling shows that most liberals favor the press, while conservatives view it more negatively— a partisan divide that has widened significantly over the past decade. Conventional wisdom suggests that the same ideological split is also at work at the Supreme Court, with liberal Justices championing the work of the press while their conservative colleagues express more skepticism. This perception is reinforced by historical examples of liberal Justices advancing press rights alongside broader democracy-engagement and social-justice issues. Recent calls from some conservative Justices to …
Digital Reuse And Online Availability Of Visual Artworks, Paul J. Heald, Matthias Sahli, Alexander Cuntz
Digital Reuse And Online Availability Of Visual Artworks, Paul J. Heald, Matthias Sahli, Alexander Cuntz
Scholarly Works
We study how copyright impacts the distribution and reuse of images in the visual arts sector, exploiting the discontinuity at the 1926 US public domain cutoff together with cross-country variation between US and European museums. We find that public domain status raises artist-level image availability on Useum, a major image aggregator, by approximately 19 percent relative to comparable copyrighted artworks. Onward reuse of Useum images across the web is substantial - an artwork image appears on 76 additional web pages on average - and is higher for public domain artworks, though estimates are statistically significant only in some specifications. Moreover, …

Press Freedom's History And Tradition, Ronnell Andersen Jones, Sonja R. West
Scholarly Works
Backward-looking, history-and-tradition analysis is gaining greater prominence at the U.S. Supreme Court. While the Court has not yet explicitly applied its history-and-tradition framework to press freedom questions, the methodology’s dominance across other areas, coupled with some urgent concerns about the scope of newsgatherer protections and some Justices’ interest in reconsidering long-established precedent, suggest that this application could be imminent. In anticipation of that moment, we set out to empirically map the Court’s engagement with the history and tradition of press freedom in its rhetoric over time. Our goals were to explore, both quantitatively and qualitatively, how the Court’s Justices have …
A More Perfect Union? (Reviewing Erwin Chemerinsky, No Democracy Lasts Forever: How The Constitution Threatens The United States (2024)), Neil Fulton
South Dakota Law Review
It is a bold claim that the United States Constitution is a threat to democracy in the United States. It is certainly a claim that most would reject outright or be highly skeptical of at least. It is, however, exactly the claim that Erwin Chemerinsky makes in his book No Democracy Lasts Forever.
Erwin Chemerinsky is a prolific scholar, particularly of constitutional law. It is not surprising that he would produce a timely, topical, and thought-provoking book on the subject. What is surprising is his fundamental premise that the Constitution itself threatens democracy in the United States today. This provocative …
The Trial Of Socrates, Jonathan K. Van Patten
The Trial Of Socrates, Jonathan K. Van Patten
South Dakota Law Review
In many important ways, the trial of Socrates was not just the trial of the century, nor even the trial of the millennium. It predated the trial of Jesus, which is important for many other reasons, but Socrates’ contribution to how we think about justice and the rule of law is without equal. This Article explores the ways that this fifth-century B.C. trial, located geographically on the margin of what came to be known as the West, is at the center of what makes us a civilization. It is not simply about the drama, nor the politics of free inquiry, …
