Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Education For Spanish Speakers Assessing Empowerment Through Education: Preliminary Findings, Tess Swake, Kira Negrete, Marisela Trenado-Alba, Erika Benitez, Alessandra Peraza-Aguillón
Student-Faculty Research - College of Physical Therapy
The Problem: Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD) disproportionately impacts the US Latinx population, who experience up to a 1.8x higher rate of urinary incontinence, yet they face significant language and cultural barriers in healthcare.
The Gap: Current Spanish educational materials often exceed recommended reading levels, and published research on pelvic health physical therapy tailored for primary Spanish speakers is non-existent.
The Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of accessible Spanish-language materials (text, graphics, and video) in empowering patients by improving their knowledge of pelvic anatomy, common conditions, and baseline health.
How Does Media Exposure Promote Nature Deprivation, Impacting Next Generational Social Interaction? Screen Time Vs. Green Time: A Cross-Sectional Survey Study, Mia N. Ryder
Honors Theses and Capstones
This study explores the impact social media can have on individuals' other qualities of life. This study particularly highlights its impact on in-person social engagement along with nature utilization and enjoyment, keeping in mind the corresponding benefits associated with those two variables. UNH undergraduate students were selected as participants. Participants completed surveys assessing their sense of regulation with social media consumption and reliance, their tendency to use and enjoy accessible natural resources, and their overall capacity to experience social comfort. Our survey was designed using 3 separate scales: A Green Space Enjoyment Scale, Social Comfortability Scale, and the third being …

An Advocacy Appetizer: Students Write Their Lawmakers About Issues That Matter To Them, Darren Ilett
Information Literacy
In these two 50-minute lessons intended for first-year undergraduates in an English composition, first-year experience, or standalone information literacy course, students write letters to lawmakers about issues that interest them or that impact themselves, their families, or their communities. After the lessons, students will be able to 1) determine an appropriate audience for their topic (relating to the “Authority Is Constructed and Contextual” and “Scholarship as Conversation” frames); 2) find and select evidence from source types that would convince or appeal to their audience (relating to the “Information Creation as a Process” frame); and 3) use information ethically by citing …
Correct My Captions: An Ai-Human Collaboration Workflow, Derrel Fincher
Correct My Captions: An Ai-Human Collaboration Workflow, Derrel Fincher
Posters
As the April 24, 2026 ADA Title II deadline approaches, higher-education instructors are facing the task of improving captions on existing course videos. This poster presents a practical workflow to improve Canvas Studio captions in which AI performs most of the cross-checking between two independent transcripts: the original Studio captions and an AI-generated transcript from the extracted audio. The AI compares the transcripts and uses differences as a quality-check signal: segments with strong agreement remain unchanged, while mismatches, “inaudible/uncertain” markers, and glossary terms (names, acronyms, technical vocabulary) are automatically flagged for targeted human review. After review, the workflow outputs a …
Open To The Public: Legal Protections For Public Access To Shifting Ocean And Great Lakes Shorelines, Emma Ehrlich, Cora Sutherland, Melissa Scanlan
Open To The Public: Legal Protections For Public Access To Shifting Ocean And Great Lakes Shorelines, Emma Ehrlich, Cora Sutherland, Melissa Scanlan
Water Law Review
Shorelines and beaches are shifting and eroding as climate change causes ocean levels to rise and the Great Lakes to alternate between more erratic high and low water levels. Two common responses to shifting shorelines and erosion are hard shoreline armoring and beach nourishment. However, these responses raise concerns regarding access to public trust resources. Shoreline armoring can restrict public access to the oceans and Great Lakes, as well as diminish their sandy beaches. Government-funded beach nourishment projects may also take place near private homes, resulting in questions as to who is benefiting from these publicly funded projects.

Making Ai Use Visible: Teaching Students To Develop Personal Ai Policy Statements, Megan Stoneberger Johnson
Posters
Students are rapidly adopting generative AI tools to perform a myriad of academic and personal tasks, often without much critical thought or ethical deliberation. Without clear guiding principles or predetermined standards of practice, some students are bypassing the cognitive work learning requires and robbing themselves of meaningful intellectual development. To break the cycle of mindless AI use, I developed a project in which students craft their own personal AI policy statements that detail the ethical and professional considerations that guide their decision making. Students are required to model their AI use through a narrated screen-capture video that demonstrates their prompt-crafting …

#Influencerinfractions: How Influencers Comply (Or Don’T) With Ftc Guidelines, Christopher Terry, Emma Troha, Anastasia Micich, Cecilia Lausten
Journal of Law, Technology, & the Internet
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released endorsement guidelines of sponsored content in 2023, including stipulations of clear and conspicuous disclosure, to combat content disguised as original, while actually having commercial intent. This paper examines compliance with these guidelines among travel influencers on Instagram. Overwhelmingly, influencers are not properly disclosing potential commercial sponsorship in their posts, and even good faith attempts to disclose are more often than not non-compliant with the FTC’s guidelines. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Assessing Positive Digital Experiences: A Spanish Validation Of The Digital Flourishing Scale For Adolescents, Alfredo Zarco-Alpuente, Victor Ciudad Fernández, Jasmina Rosič, Sophie Janicke-Bowles, Tamara Escrivà-Martínez, Paula Samper-García
Communication Faculty Articles and Research
Background: Adolescents are immersed in digital communication, which can benefit or harm their well-being. Digital flourishing captures positive perceptions of this communication-connectedness, authentic self-presentation, positive social comparison, civil participation, and self-control-and how it contributes to well-being. In Spain there is still no validated instrument for adolescents. Method: We adapted and validated the Digital Flourishing Scale for Adolescents (DFSA) for Spanish adolescents. Study 1 involved a pilot survey (n = 13) and cognitive interviews (n = 10) to improve clarity and cultural relevance. Study 2 used a cross-sectional survey (n = 1,786) to examine the DFSA’s latent structure, measurement invariance by …

Law Librarianship And Legal Information Science In The Age Of Genai, Paul D. Callister
Faculty Works
This article examines the relationship between law librarianship and legal information science in the age of generative AI (GenAI), arguing that closer integration between the two is essential to navigating a rapidly evolving legal information landscape. It contends that law librarianship—long grounded in stable classification systems and cognitive authority—must adopt the analytical methods of legal information science to remain effective in the digital era. Together, these fields can reinforce the rule of law by improving the organization, retrieval, and stability of legal information. The article identifies emerging subfields of legal information science that support this integration and develops several concepts …
Male Disposability, Law, And Feminism, Edward Cantu
Male Disposability, Law, And Feminism, Edward Cantu
Faculty Works
This article explores scientific evidence that societies care more about the welfare and safety of females than that of males, and that this dynamic of "male disposability" is deeply entrenched in culture, and thus in law. The recognition and integration of male disposability theory would mean an evolutionary leap in modern theorizing about gender and the law, but it is ignored. Why? Feminist theory dominates current academic gender discourse. Far from appreciating the explanatory power of male disposability theory, feminist theorists are often invested in theorizing gendered problems in ways that mischannel compassion away from men and toward women. The …
Iceberg Ethos: Credibility And Hemingway In Predictive Legal Writing, Brad Desnoyer
Iceberg Ethos: Credibility And Hemingway In Predictive Legal Writing, Brad Desnoyer
Faculty Works
In predictive legal writing, credibility is not inferred from conclusions alone. It is constructed sentence by sentence. Analytic correctness is necessary, but it is not sufficient. Supervising attorneys read prose as evidence of intellectual control, treating disciplined style as proof of substantive mastery. Yet legal writing scholarship has largely framed clarity as a matter of pedagogy or professionalism rather than as a structural theory of ethos.
This article reframes predictive writing as institutional rhetoric. Within the hierarchical environment of law practice, cognitive fluency governs professional trust: writing that is easy to process yet disciplined in reasoning reads as competence. Drawing …

Microglial Apoe Across Alzheimer’S Disease-Relevant Pathologies, Georgia Nolt
Microglial Apoe Across Alzheimer’S Disease-Relevant Pathologies, Georgia Nolt
Theses and Dissertations--Physiology
APOE exists as three common alleles (APOE2, APOE3, APOE4) that encode their corresponding protein isoforms (apoE2, apoE3, apoE4). Despite differing by only one or two single-amino acid substitutions, each APOE allele confers a distinct AD risk profile with APOE4 increasing risk by 28% and APOE2 decreasing risk by 14% compared to the most commonly expressed APOE3 allele. While traditionally considered “neutral,” APOE3 still accounts for ~36% of AD cases while APOE4 contributes ~57%, indicating that the majority of AD cases would not occur in the absence of the APOE3 and APOE4 alleles. Microglia, the resident phagocytic immune cells …

The Relationship Between Participants In The Certificate Of Educational Technology And Information Literacy (Coetail) Program And Professional Capital, Benjamin J. Sheridan
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Leadership Studies
This study aimed to explore how educators involved in the Certificate of Educational Technology and Information Literacy (COETAIL) program perceived the development of their professional capital within an online, cohort-based professional learning community. Based on Hargreaves and Fullan’s (2012) concept of professional capital, which includes human, social, and decisional capital, and guided by social learning theories, the study examined participants’ perceptions of professional capital development, the program features related to that development, and how participation influenced their professional paths. The research focused on international school settings, where educators often rely on networked professional learning because of geographic mobility and limited …
Hallucinogen Use Among Parents Of Children In The United States: Associations With Mental Health And Substance Use, Maggie K. Richardson
Hallucinogen Use Among Parents Of Children In The United States: Associations With Mental Health And Substance Use, Maggie K. Richardson
Theses and Dissertations--Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology
Hallucinogen use has reemerged in the United States amid expanding clinical research and shifting social and policy contexts. However, population-based evidence remains limited regarding hallucinogen use among adults living with children and its relationship with mental health impairment severity in caregiving environments. Therefore, this study’s objective was to examine associations between past-year hallucinogen use and past-year mental health impairment among U.S. adults, and to test whether associations differ by parental status and number of children in the household. A secondary aim examined correlates of co-occurring substance use among those reporting hallucinogen use.
Data were drawn from the 2023 National Survey …

Should I Have Held Your Hand Or Can You Hold Your Own?: The Growing Confusion Over The Copyright Powers Songwriters Maintain Over Their Works, Mark Galinovsky
Cardozo Law Review de•novo
As online streaming and digital downloads continue to dominate the music business, songwriters are increasingly left to fight each other for tiny cuts of the profits. Additionally, a lack of consistent judicial rules and standards when adjudicating copyright infringement claims make litigation results uncertain, causing even potentially victorious defendants to agree to expensive settlements and frivolous grants of songwriting credits. This Note argues that in order to protect the future creative output of the music industry, judges and legislators should prioritize the dwindling power songwriters have over control of their original works of authorship.

Characterizing Gut Microbial Communities And Symbiont-Mediated Detoxification In Herbivorous Insects, Rachel C. Vargas
Characterizing Gut Microbial Communities And Symbiont-Mediated Detoxification In Herbivorous Insects, Rachel C. Vargas
Biology Dissertations
Insect gut bacteria are vital contributors to host physiology, yet the broader prevalence and fitness implications of symbiont-mediated detoxification remain poorly understood. This thesis investigates these dynamics across three research chapters. Chapter 1 uses 16S rRNA sequencing to characterize how grasshopper gut microbial communities vary across species, dietary breadths, and gastrointestinal segments. Chapter 2 evaluates the detoxification capacity of over 150 bacterial isolates from diverse herbivores against the plant allelochemicals phenethyl isothiocyanate, rutin, and chlorogenic acid to determine if host dietary specialization predicts microbial metabolic ability. Finally, Chapter 3 employs fitness bioassays to test whether inoculating generalist herbivores with detoxifying …
Adolescent Girls’ Experiences Of Digital Dating Abuse Through Social Media: A Scoping Review, Kiara E. Rodriguez
Adolescent Girls’ Experiences Of Digital Dating Abuse Through Social Media: A Scoping Review, Kiara E. Rodriguez
Social Work Theses
Teen dating violence (TDV) is a prevalent adverse childhood experience with lasting psychological and behavioral consequences. As adolescents increasingly engage with social media, with 95% of teens aged 13-17 reporting using it, digital spaces have become a significant context in which dating abuse can occur. Digital dating abuse (DDA) refers to patterns of abusive behaviors that are directed toward a dating partner through digital technologies, including social media and mobile phones. Despite the growing role of social media in adolescent relationships, research on how adolescent girls experience DDA in these contexts remains limited. The central question for this scoping review …
Why Does The U.S. Still Practice The Death Penalty? An Application Of Waltz's Three Images, Anika Tracy
Why Does The U.S. Still Practice The Death Penalty? An Application Of Waltz's Three Images, Anika Tracy
University Honors Program Senior Projects
The United States is the only Western democracy that still practices the death penalty, and legal scholars, domestic politics scholars, and comparativists have written extensively about American capital punishment. In this thesis, I will synthesize this scholarship to present a multifaceted explanation for America’s uniquely continued use of the death penalty through Kenneth Waltz’s three “images” or levels of analysis. While Waltz’s three levels of analysis is an established theory in the field of international relations (IR), the utilization of IR theory for an analysis of American capital punishment is particularly enriching because death penalty abolition is a norm in …

Leveling The Playing Field: The Atlantic Coast Conference’S Settlement With Florida State University And Clemson University, Emma Lloyd Best, Kyre Dane Lahtinen
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
This Article examines the legal disputes and subsequent settlement between the Atlantic Coast Conference and two of its prominent member institutions, Florida State University and Clemson University. The conflicts centered on the Atlantic Coast Conference’s extension of its media rights agreement with ESPN, which both universities argued were not properly approved under conference bylaws and imposed an unconscionable withdrawal penalty. Florida State University sought to challenge the enforceability of the Grant of Rights and its associated penalties, while Clemson University pursued a narrower interpretation, aiming to limit broadcast rights and financial obligations upon exit. The …

A Third Possibility: The Press Clause At The Founding, Matthew L. Schafer
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
With the rise of history and tradition at the Supreme Court, scholarship purporting to define historical fact is likely to have outsized influence on the development of constitutional law. Underdeveloped constitutional rights like the First Amendment’s Press Clause are especially susceptible to such influence as they lack a precedential counterweight. While Press Clause jurisprudence is shallow, historical research about the Press Clause is not. For decades, scholars who have considered the Press Clause’s historical meaning have generally concluded that the record is quite vague, and, for that reason, cautioned against absolutist conclusions as to its original understanding. …

Deregulating The Song: The Case For Free- Market Licensing Of Musical Works In The Digital Streaming Era, Bailey Alberton
Deregulating The Song: The Case For Free- Market Licensing Of Musical Works In The Digital Streaming Era, Bailey Alberton
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
This Note takes as its starting point that songwriters are inadequately and unfairly compensated for the streaming of their music and argues that the unique and pervasive government regulation of musical composition licensing exacerbates this problem. To address this problem, this Note argues that both the compulsory mechanical license and the performing rights organizations consent decrees should undergo reform to permit songwriters to negotiate with music streaming services in the free market.

The Invisible String: How Litigation Funders In Patent Suits Pose A National Security Risk, Cosette Mclaughlin
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
This Note will address why the Supreme Court should modify Rule 7.1 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to require third-party litigation funding (TPLF) funders and agreements to be disclosed to the judge and the opposing party. This amendment would mitigate the national security risk posed by foreign adversaries acting through TPLF in patent suits by eliminating the veil of secrecy. The semiconductor industry acts as an illustration of the benefits of this modification.19 In addition, if TPLF funding were required to be disclosed to all involved, conflict identification would become significantly easier. Full transparency in patent litigation TPLF …
