Iraqi National Journal of Medicine
Background: Malnutrition accounts for sixty percent of annual deaths among children under five years in developing countries, attributed to inappropriate feeding practices, including non-diverse and insufficient feeding. Improving the nutrition of children under five is a top priority for human development in these regions. Caregivers’ knowledge, attitudes, and practice of young child feeding are essential factors for child health and growth. Aim: The primary aim of this study was to assess infants and young children feeding practice among mothers attending primary health care centers in Basrah. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 250 mothers attending five primary health care …

Iraqi National Journal of Medicine
Background: Doxorubicin is widely used as a chemotherapeutic drug. It has several serious side effects, including cardiotoxicity. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker that plays a cardioprotective role against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. Aim: The aim of our study is to evaluate whether the combination of valsartan and doxorubicin affects the therapeutic efficacy of doxorubicin in treating cancer using an in vitro breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). Methods: Different concentrations of doxorubicin, valsartan, and their combination were tested to detect their cytotoxic effects on the cell line using MTT colorimetric assay method. Three duplicates of each concentration and control were made. …
Within Boundaries: Collecting And Exhibiting Chinese Contemporary Art In M+, Hong Kong, Lei April Liu
Within Boundaries: Collecting And Exhibiting Chinese Contemporary Art In M+, Hong Kong, Lei April Liu
Masters Theses
This thesis investigates how M+, Hong Kong’s museum of twentieth- and twenty-first-century visual culture, collects and exhibits Chinese contemporary art under political and institutional constraint. It argues that M+ operates through adaptive autonomy, a condition in which curatorial and educational strategies transform limitation into method. By analyzing the museum’s formation, exhibition practices, and comparison with other Asian institutions such as the Asia Culture Center in South Korea, the Power Station of Art in China, and the National Gallery Singapore, the study reveals how M+ sustains visibility of Chinese contemporary art with political sensitive topic through 绥靖 (Sui Jing; subtle appeasement) …

The Role Music Plays In Facilitating Transformation And Self-Actualization In Israeli Music Students Impacted By Trauma, Adina Feldman
The Role Music Plays In Facilitating Transformation And Self-Actualization In Israeli Music Students Impacted By Trauma, Adina Feldman
Educational Studies Dissertations
Abstract
This qualitative study explores the role music plays in facilitating transformation and self-actualization among Israeli undergraduate and alumni music students who have experienced trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder. Guided by social constructivist and humanistic-existential frameworks, this research employs a narrative methodology to examine how music operates as a medium for meaning-making, resilience, and growth in non-clinical contexts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and the analysis of musical compositions and artifacts from two singer-songwriters who transformed personal adversity into creative expression. The findings reveal that although trauma leaves lasting psychological and emotional effects, engagement with music enables …
The Characteristics Of A University And Urban Elementary School Partnership Project: Interventions That Impact Teacher Self-Efficacy And Their Emerging Social Network, Susan R. Cusack
Educational Studies Dissertations
The purpose of this research was to re-analyze and extend findings established by the 2011 – 2015 evaluation of a university partnership with an urban elementary school in the northeast region of the United States. While the original evaluation examined multiple domains related to the impact of the partnership’s effects on these elementary school teachers, my research will narrow and deepen the study of two domains: Teacher Self-Efficacy and Social Networks, both socio-affective variables that change over time. This research is grounded in theories related to teacher self-efficacy, social networks in education, and the emergence of a robust community of …
Internalized Transnegativity, Self-Warmth, Self-Coldness, And Eating Disorder Symptomatology Among Transgender And Nonbinary Adults, Sarah Mcarthur, Suzanne Mclaren, Peter D. Goldie
Internalized Transnegativity, Self-Warmth, Self-Coldness, And Eating Disorder Symptomatology Among Transgender And Nonbinary Adults, Sarah Mcarthur, Suzanne Mclaren, Peter D. Goldie
Department of Psychology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Eating disorders (EDs) are highly prevalent among transgender and nonbinary (TNB) adults, and internalized transnegativity is a key risk factor for ED symptomatology. Although extant literature has established that self-compassion protects against EDs among the cisgender population, research among TNB adults is nascent. The current study sought to identify whether internalized transnegativity and components of self-compassion (i.e., self-warmth and self-coldness) were independently associated with ED symptomatology, and whether the components of self-compassion moderated the relation between internalized transnegativity and ED symptomatology. An international sample of 127 TNB adults aged between 18 and 69 years (M = 32.24, SD = …

L’Intégration De L’Ia Dans La Formation Des Traducteur·Ices : Évolution Sous Double Contrainte ? Le Cas De L’Université De Liège (Belgique), Valérie Bada, Perrine Schumacher
Al-Kīmiyā
This article focuses on integrating AI into the translation curriculum at the University of Liège, a challenge that must accommodate academic, legal and market-driven demands. Given that the ULiège translation programme has both academic and vocational grounding, the institutional politics has aimed at developing a critical awareness of the market demands (focusing on targeted, technical skills) and of scientific methods (based on a rigorous, metareflexive approach). It also fits into the changing landscape of translation education, shaped by pressures from three distinct spheres: academia, the professional market, and the legislative framework. After outlining our department’s history and presenting four courses …

La Traduction Audiovisuelle Freelance Aujourd’Hui – Réalités Professionnelles Et Écarts Avec La Théorie, Sylvain Caschelin, Julie Gravier
Al-Kīmiyā
This article examines the realities of working as a freelance audiovisual translator through the lens of the EMT (European Master’s in Translation) framework. By tracing the workflow – from client requests to the recognition of subtitled works – it highlights the gap between theory and practice, including issues such as economic insecurity, delayed payments, fragile contracts, and the general invisibility of translators. The study argues that professionalization requires more than linguistic expertise alone; it also demands a wider range of skills, including administrative, legal, and interpersonal competencies. Finally, it calls for stronger regulation and greater symbolic and economic recognition of …
Cultural Metamorphosis: Kafka And The Thresholds Of Editorial Design, Renato Seixas, María Gárgoles Navas
Cultural Metamorphosis: Kafka And The Thresholds Of Editorial Design, Renato Seixas, María Gárgoles Navas
Artículos científicos
In 2024, the centenary of Franz Kafka’s death inspired a collaborative academic project between the Universidad de Diseño, Innovación y Tecnología (UDIT, Madrid) and the Escola Superior de Artes e Design (ESAD, Porto). The initiative, entitled Kafka 2024, reinterpreted The Metamorphosis (1915) through editorial design as both a tribute to Kafka and a pedagogical experiment. The project was developed in five phases: an online workshop, a shared editorial briefing, six weeks of remote collaborative production, a public presentation at ESAD, and the final synthesis in a bilingual publication.
This article analyzes the experience in relation to the theme “Polarities, …

“I Don’T Want To Be The Bad Kind Of Special”: The Lived Experiences Of Autistic Youth In Extracurricular Programs In Their Communities, Catherine A. Sargent Ph.D.
“I Don’T Want To Be The Bad Kind Of Special”: The Lived Experiences Of Autistic Youth In Extracurricular Programs In Their Communities, Catherine A. Sargent Ph.D.
Counseling and Psychology Dissertations
Autistic youth face barriers to participation and belonging in community settings. Historically, autism research has privileged researcher perspectives and deficit-based frameworks, often excluding the authentic voices of autistic individuals, particularly young people. This qualitative, phenomenological study sought to address that gap by exploring the lived experiences of autistic youth (ages 13–18) participating in extracurricular community programs in Massachusetts. Framed by critical disability theory, critical autism studies, ecological systems theory, and intersectionality, the study examined how autistic youth experience inclusion, connection, and self-expression within programs designed largely for neurotypical participants.
Seven autistic youths contributed to this research through participant-generated photographs and …
Improving The Well-Being Of Mothers Of Infants And Toddlers Through Mindfulness And Creativity, Tia L. Curran
Improving The Well-Being Of Mothers Of Infants And Toddlers Through Mindfulness And Creativity, Tia L. Curran
Mindfulness Theses
U.S. mothers of infants and toddlers report experiencing feelings of confusion surrounding their identity in early motherhood. Research also shows emotion dysregulation, cognitive overwhelm, attention issues, high stress and isolation as common challenges mothers of toddlers and infants experience in their daily lives. These challenges can directly impact a mother’s well-being as well as her child’s well-being and the entire family unit. Mindfulness practice and creative expression are two ways of being that relate directly to each other and have been shown to improve well-being. Through repeated exercising of mindfulness and creativity, one can regulate their emotions and reduce stress …
