Exploring Academic Note Taking Practices Of Multilingual University Students: Perceptions And Practices, Alice M. Findlay Ms.
Exploring Academic Note Taking Practices Of Multilingual University Students: Perceptions And Practices, Alice M. Findlay Ms.
Theses and Dissertations
Note taking is a fundamental academic skill that records information and supports the identification, selection and organization of information for understanding and knowledge creation, yet it is often overlooked in higher education. Research has explored the role of note taking in supporting learning and examined similarities and differences between L1 and L2 note taking. However, few studies have focused on multilingual students in English Medium Instruction (EMI) contexts despite the additional cognitive challenges of managing information across languages and navigating Western-centric academic conventions. This study investigates how multilingual students at an Egyptian EMI university take notes in their learning contexts. …
Navigating Radical Indeterminacy In The Struggle For A Global Collective Consciousness: The Question Of Eco-Justice And Law Or Universalize The Pluriverse: A Manifesto, More Or Less, Omar Auf
Theses and Dissertations
The processes of interpretation, communication, and re-interpretation leads to the emergence of an approximated collective consciousness, for which it may be struggled and contested by hegemonic. The dominant forces of this contest, capitalism and nationalism, lead to an interdivided world: one that possesses the tools to empathize with each other but is instead leading people to keep their heads down and focus on surviving their own contexts, perceived as existing within different historical times on the same timeline. This leads to legal and justice systems that fail their claim to universality and/or impartiality. Incorporating an ecological lens to justice within …

The following were discussed: advantages and problems with computer-assisted qualitative data analysis, and topics where software for analyzing qualitative data can be …
Parallel Concepts Found In The Thousand And One Nights And Sufi Hagiography, Walaa Kamal Emam Kamel
Parallel Concepts Found In The Thousand And One Nights And Sufi Hagiography, Walaa Kamal Emam Kamel
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis argues that The Thousand and One Nights functions as more than mere populist entertainment; rather, it constitutes a literary corpus imbued with Sufi mystical epistemologies that reflect the spiritual quests and Sufi concepts evident in hagiographical traditions. Through discourse and intertextual analysis of two Nights stories, “The City of Brass” and “The Porter and the Three Ladies of Baghdad,” alongside Farīd al-Dīn ʿAṭṭār’s Tadhkirat al-awliyāʾ, this study demonstrates how shared rhetorical strategies—specifically David Pinault’s Leitwörter analysis and L.A. Paul’s Transformative Experience concept—reveal a narrative and rhetorical emphasis on the metamorphosis of the self from worldly attachment toward …
Facebook Interaction As A Potential Marker Of Cognitive Decline: Pilot Study, Esraa M. Qansuwa
Facebook Interaction As A Potential Marker Of Cognitive Decline: Pilot Study, Esraa M. Qansuwa
Theses and Dissertations
One of the critical challenges in brain disorder research is the early identification of individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) who may later develop Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or other dementias. MCI in older adults is frequently associated with diminished social engagement and observable behavioral changes. With the rapid expansion of social media platforms and advances in Machine Learning (ML), digital traces from online activity present a novel and scalable avenue for mental health screening. In particular, predictive ML approaches have demonstrated strong potential in building reliable classifiers for early detection of neurocognitive decline. This study introduces an innovative framework that …
Nlp-Based Comparative Assessment Of Clauses Quantifying Risk Transfer In Construction Contracts, Hoda M. Elshamy
Nlp-Based Comparative Assessment Of Clauses Quantifying Risk Transfer In Construction Contracts, Hoda M. Elshamy
Theses and Dissertations
Employers in the construction industry mostly deviate from standard contract forms such as FIDIC and NEC, by introducing alterations to the contract conditions that shift a great portion of risks from the client to the contractor. Originally, these risks were distributed more equitably between all contracting parties in the standards forms. The imbalances in the contractual conditions create fertile ground for conflicts, and if not resolved, will escalate to disputes during the project execution phase, leading to significant cost overruns and time delays. The contractors, therefore, attempt to restore the original balance through making amendments to the communicated contract, through …
An Ethnographic Exploration Of The Lived Experiences With Gynecologic Cancers, Norma Naser Aldeen
An Ethnographic Exploration Of The Lived Experiences With Gynecologic Cancers, Norma Naser Aldeen
Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
This thesis stays close to conversations with nine women who spoke about living with and through gynecologic cancers, from moments of finding out, through treatment, and into what follows. These encounters unfolded primarily through digitally mediated exchanges across Baalbek, Beirut, and other translocal settings shaped by distance and movement. Rather than approaching illness as a bounded biomedical event, this thesis attends to how gynecologic cancer is narrated as something that lingers—pressing into everyday life through bodily sensations, altered rhythms, and ongoing recalibrations of care, responsibility, and what remains possible.
Across these encounters, care rarely appears as a stable system …
The Indeterminacy Of Customary International Law, Mohamed Diaa Tawfik
The Indeterminacy Of Customary International Law, Mohamed Diaa Tawfik
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the judicial formation of customary international law and examines how international courts oscillate between interpretive and law-making functions. It analyzes key theoretical frameworks—including Kelsen’s Pure Theory of Law, Dworkin’s Law as Integrity, Kennedy’s radical indeterminacy, and Koskenniemi’s Descending-Ascending Approach—to understand how courts assert and shape customary norms beyond mere state practice and opinio juris. The work concludes that the International Court of Justice and other tribunals increasingly act as de facto lawmakers under the guise of interpretation, advocating the indeterminacy they try to avoid.
Reconfiguring The Category Of 'Sudan' Through The Literary Field: Representation, Disposability, Ambiguity And The 'Magical' In Four Post-Colonial Novels (2002-2022), Mourad Farahat
Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis I shall argue that contemporary African literature, with ‘’both its ethnographic imagination and anthropological complexity’’ (Orock, 2022, p.3), its use of ‘disruptive’ characters, and its focus on the embeddedness of the ‘collective’, the ‘common’ and the ‘vulgar’ in the personal (Mbembe, 2003), may help us mitigate some social scientific limitations on the study of Africa, and may aid us in understanding relations of power within the post-colony. I seek to show how contemporary Sudanese literature has already moved beyond the fixed social categories, lines, and limits which dominate some of the social scientific literature on Sudan. Literature …
Stories Take A Life Of Their Own: Exploring The Metoo Movement In Egypt, Menatallah Salama
Stories Take A Life Of Their Own: Exploring The Metoo Movement In Egypt, Menatallah Salama
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores the unfolding of Egypt’s MeToo movement through the stories that emerged in the wake of the 2020 Ahmed Bassam Zaki case. Rather than framing this moment as a rupture or a crisis, it seeks to situate it within a longer genealogy of feminist resistance, digital activism, and everyday acts of speaking out and silencing. At the heart of this work is the question: what does it mean for a story to take a life of its own? Stories here are not fixed entities but rather living actants—capable of forming solidarities, generating intensities, and unsettling hegemonic narratives. Drawing …

Groove Goes The Distance: An Initial Inquiry Into Jazz Music In Egypt, Farida Gohar
Groove Goes The Distance: An Initial Inquiry Into Jazz Music In Egypt, Farida Gohar
Theses and Dissertations
Jazz music has been a historically contentious site of social, cultural, and political signification. From the violent subjugation that characterized its origins and aspirational freedom that animated its practice, to its transformation into a distinctly “American” music instrumentalized by the US State Department to counter Soviet influence, jazz’s capacity for the inscription of meaning is vast and regularly cause for debate. The particular configuration of jazz music in Egypt is no less complicated although seldom studied. This thesis ventures an initial mapping of the dynamics and negotiations that historically defined the initiation of “Egyptian” jazz, as well as the ones …
Law And The (Re)Production Of Class Hierarchies In Egypt, Ahmad Abdelnaby
Law And The (Re)Production Of Class Hierarchies In Egypt, Ahmad Abdelnaby
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis investigates how Egypt’s legal system, structurally tilted toward the elite and constitutive of inequality, has interacted with the country’s entrenched culture of class-based discrimination to produce a legal culture uniquely comfortable with hierarchy. It contends that class-based discrimination in Egypt has evolved from a social prejudice into a juridical condition, one in which the law does not merely mirror inequality but actively constructs and rationalizes it. By examining the intersection between legal structure and Egypt’s entrenched moral order of class-based discrimination, the study reveals a legal culture that no longer hides its hierarchies behind the veil of neutrality …

Radiology Report Generation Using Deep Learning And Web-Based Deployment For Chest X-Ray Analysis, David Agbolade, Peyman Heydarian, Shakeel Ahmad
Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering
The huge rise in the number of medical images has caused a major problem in radiology departments. Radiologists are now working harder than ever, which affects the quality of their diagnoses and patient care. It takes 15 to 30 minutes to write a manual radiological report for each case, and different people may see things differently. Modern departments process over 230 cases a week, which causes long delays in diagnosis. Automated report generation systems that are already in use have a lot of problems, such as not being able to be interpreted clinically, not having enough Digital Imaging and Communications …

Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering
The rapid growth of e-commerce has led to product overload, which has resulted in personalized product discovery becoming a crucial problem for consumers. Classic recommender systems (RS), which rely heavily on content-based filtering or collaborative filtering, tend to face well-known problems such as cold start, data sparsity, and ignorance of semantics. Such constraints frequently result in irrelevant or redundant suggestions, thereby lowering the user satisfaction and conversions. This study presents a hybrid ontology-based e-commerce recommender system that combines symbolic reasoning with deep semantic matching. The system is based on a Neo4j graph database to capture structured product relationships and is …

Optimised Data Integration Using Transformer Model And Resource Description Framework, Jerome Aondongu Achir, Muhammad Abdulkarim, Mohammed Abdullahi
Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering
Organizations have become highly reliant on a range of data sources that span structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data types. These repositories allow large-scale storage for faster ingestion and analytics but pose tremendous challenges of integration owing to schema and contextual differences. Traditional data integration methods, such as the ontology-based Resource Description Framework (RDF), are often inadequate when dealing with these challenges. They specifically struggle with the dynamic evolution of the schema of data sources, context-aware interpretation, and achieving interoperability across heterogeneous data sources. This paper presents an integrated system that augments resource description knowledge with token embeddings using the attention …
