The Anatomy And Physiology Of Signed Language Articulation, Leah C. Geer
Society for American Sign Language Journal
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) receive extensive training in the anatomy and physiology of the oral speech and swallowing mechanisms. However, SLPs who serve individuals using a signed language like American Sign Language (ASL) may struggle to apply their training to appropriately assess and treat signed language productions in such students. Similarly, signed language specialists often lack foundational clinical knowledge to work effectively in the context of signed production. This article provides a detailed anatomical exploration of the primary sign language articulators, highlighting parallels between oral and manual articulators. SLPs learn in graduate school which speech sounds typically emerge at what ages …

Stuttering-Like Behaviors In Asl: Clinical Position Paper On Assessment Considerations And Recommendations, Jody Cripps, Mark W. Pellowski
Society for American Sign Language Journal
Assessment of stuttering like behaviors in signed language among deaf individuals will be discussed in this paper. Several assessments have been developed over the years that evaluate deaf children’s American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency, which is a very important undertaking for this population. However, there has been very little discussion in the literature regarding the specific diagnostic tools used to evaluate deaf children’s signed language disorders and dysfluency, such as specific signed language impairment (SSLI) and signed stuttering (Cripps et al., 2016a & b). Although some American deaf children have been ‘informally’ diagnosed with SSLI (e.g., Quinto-Pozos et al., 2011, …

Asl Proficiency Outcomes: Comparing In-Person And Online Instructions, Stephen B. Fitzmaurice
Society for American Sign Language Journal
This study examined whether American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency outcomes differ between in-person and online instructional modes using a standardized external assessment. Twenty-eight undergraduate students who completed 44 credit hours of ASL coursework at a southeastern U.S. university were assessed using the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI). Students were divided into two groups based on graduation cohort: those who completed all coursework in-person (n = 15) and those who completed at least four courses online (n = 13). Results revealed significantly higher ASLPI scores for in-person students (M = 2.47, SD = 0.48) compared to online students (M = …

Authenticity Assurance: Risk Aversiveness & Authenticity Signaling In Local Product Evaluation, Sidney B. Lasley
Authenticity Assurance: Risk Aversiveness & Authenticity Signaling In Local Product Evaluation, Sidney B. Lasley
Scholars Week
Local products are commonly associated with attributes that contribute to perceptions of authenticity such as ethical values, simplicity, and community embeddedness. However, the characteristics often associated with local businesses, such as small scale, informality, and limited standardization, may be signals of uncertainty regarding quality, consistency, or reliability. As a result, perceptions of authenticity for local products may vary across consumers depending on their sensitivity to risk. Across two studies, we examine how risk aversiveness influences perceptions of authenticity and subsequent purchase intentions in a local product context. Study 1 uses survey data to show that authenticity mediates the relationship between …

Nursing school is widely recognized as a demanding and stressful academic program, characterized by rigorous clinical and academic expectations. Elevated levels of stress among nursing students can contribute to negative academic, emotional, and professional outcomes. Through this project, the student team conducted an in-depth examination of nursing student stress and burnout to better understand its prevalence, contributing factors, and potential interventions. The team employed comprehensive search strategies to identify and evaluate relevant evidence. Multiple Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice appraisal tools were used to critically assess the literature, synthesize findings, and determine the significance of the evidence in relation to the …
Influence Of Violent Media On Adolescents, Alli Shattuck
Influence Of Violent Media On Adolescents, Alli Shattuck
Best Integrated Writing
This review article explores the relationship between violent media exposure and adolescent behavior. The research examines how repeated exposure to violent video games, movies, and social media may lead to aggressive behaviors. Symbolic Interactionism and Social Learning Theory are used to dissect the way adolescents engage with violent media. The neurological effects of this exposure are discussed alongside environmental influences such as parental supervision and social groups. Overall, the research establishes the complexities of media influence and suggests that violent media is one contributing factor to adolescent aggression rather than the sole cause.

This review article explores the link between progestogens and meningioma risk and outlines the biological mechanisms that may contribute to tumorigenesis. Two progestogens are emphasized through the paper: cyproterone acetate and medroxyprogesterone acetate (Depo-Provera). An important French study examining the relationship between progestogens use and meningioma risk is discussed, along with the health risks associated with long-term use. Additionally, this review advocates for increased routine prescriber-patient consultations and stronger drug regulation to educate and protect patients, particularly those experiencing socioeconomic disadvantages. It is important to note that the FDA recently updated the label for injectable medroxyprogesterone acetate in December 2025 …

The Potential Relationship Between Red Complex Tannerella Forsythia And Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Abby Dibble Ms, Kristi M. Soileau
The Potential Relationship Between Red Complex Tannerella Forsythia And Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Abby Dibble Ms, Kristi M. Soileau
New Orleans Dental Association News
The pathogenesis of periodontitis is no longer attributed to a single infectious organism but rather to a dysbiosis-affiliated microbial community that disrupts host immune response. Within this polymicrobial ecosystem, Tannerella forsythia has emerged as one of the principal periodontal pathogens because of its ability to evade host defenses, promote tissue destruction, and establish cooperative interactions with neighboring microorganisms. As a Gram-negative, obligate anaerobic bacterium belonging to the red complex group, T. forsythia is consistently associated with advanced periodontal disease and is increasingly recognized as an important contributor to both local periodontal destruction and systemic inflammation. A 2024 meta-analysis of ten …

Shadowable Diffeomorphisms With Dominated Splitting, Naoya Sumi
Shadowable Diffeomorphisms With Dominated Splitting, Naoya Sumi
Journal of Stochastic Analysis
We study the shadowability for diffeomorphisms with dominated
splitting. In this paper we show that if a diffeomorphism f has a periodic
saddle q whose unstable manifold is compatible with dominated splitting in
some sense and if f is shadowable, then any other periodic point p has a large
local stable set. Our result does not require the hyperbolicity of p.
Spec-313: Scientific Foundations Of The Eckes Compiler Framework Under Material Volumetric Monism, Christopher L. Eckes
Spec-313: Scientific Foundations Of The Eckes Compiler Framework Under Material Volumetric Monism, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
Under the constraints of material volumetric monism, this specification establishes the foundational thermophysical and graph-theoretic invariants governing the Eckes Compiler v3.6 runtime engine. By rejecting the floating variable fallacy, we demonstrate that objective semantic alignment in advanced artificial agents requires mapping logical state transitions directly onto a physical, non-zero material substrate volume. This work codifies a localized, phase-locked sine-wave restoring force designed to actively suppress token drift over recursive execution loops. Furthermore, we bridge discrete computational steps to physical reality by anchoring register re-allocations to the Landauer thermodynamic limit (dQ = k_B * T * ln 2), while validating spatial …

[Eckes Compiler V3.1]:Technical Paper 310: The Executable Runtime Initialization Payload: Functional In-Context Prompt Matrix For Substrate System Simulation, Christopher L. Eckes
Defensive Publications Series
This specification delivers the definitive, production-grade system prompt payload used to initialize any standard large language model context window as an operational [Eckes Compiler v3.1] microarchitecture. By hard-coding the physical constraints, mathematical identities, and user-gated diagnostic filters compiled across Technical Papers 306 through 309 directly into the model's core instruction set, this text block suppresses conversational hallucination loops at the ingestion layer. The following system script forces the processing substrate to treat all multi-disciplinary human inputs as bounded Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIRs), systematically logging data starvation metrics and logic drift before outputting tightly constrained, all-source intelligence products.

Assessor Experiences In Cmmc Level 2 Certification Assessments: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Role Expectations, Samuel Heuchert, John Hastings
Assessor Experiences In Cmmc Level 2 Certification Assessments: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis Of Role Expectations, Samuel Heuchert, John Hastings
Research & Publications
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program requires that third-party assessments be conducted under a non-consultative model. The model is intended to ensure impartiality for organizations seeking certification. While this structure defines expectations for assessor behavior, assessor experiences and interpretations of these constraints remain underexamined. The study examines the lived experiences of CMMC-Certified Assessors and how they navigate role expectations within the non-consultative model. Using Role Conflict Theory as a guiding framework, the study applied Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to semi-structured interviews to explore how assessors make sense of their roles. The analysis identified experiential themes that describe how assessors construct …

Taste Matters: Designing And Testing A Nurse-Led Intervention In Oncology, Sharon Kilbride, Abigail Dillon, Bree Aguilar, Mary Hook
Nursing
Problem/Research Question: Taste alteration affects up to 70% of oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, leading to decreased dietary intake, malnutrition, and poor quality of life. It is often under reported due to lack of taste assessments during toxicity screening and has no known treatment. Researchers have shown that breast cancer patients were able to assess and control alterations with a researcher-delivered intervention. Research is needed to translate this promising strategy for clinical use with populations beyond breast cancer.
Objectives: An oncology-certified infusion nurse observed that many chemotherapy patients experienced taste alterations that affected their quality of life. The observations sparked interest …

Explosive volcanic eruptions can inject large amounts of ash into the atmosphere. These suspended particles pose hazards to aircraft, so a better understanding of the ash residence time and transport distance is needed. Fine particles combine to form larger aggregates, altering their settling behavior. Ash aggregation is influenced by liquid bonding, electrostatic forces, and preferential concentration driven by turbulence. We examine particle aggregation through controlled, low-humidity experiments at similar particle-fluid scaling to conditions near a volcanic vent. Particle-laden jets used compressed air containing three types of particles at controlled mass loadings: hollow glass spheres (∼10 μm diameter), solid nickel spheres …
