Inflection Points In Academic Career Trajectories: Statistical Modeling And Interactive Visualization, Aicha Malouche Feb 2026

Inflection Points In Academic Career Trajectories: Statistical Modeling And Interactive Visualization, Aicha Malouche

Theses

This thesis examines the temporal structure of academic career trajectories, with a particular focus on identifying non-linear patterns of research productivity and moments of maximum acceleration in scientific impact. Situated within the broader context of bibliometric evaluation, the study responds to long-standing limitations of aggregate and linear career models that obscure heterogeneity across disciplines and national research systems. Drawing on theories of cumulative advantage, life-cycle productivity, and structural stratification, the research seeks to clarify how and when elite researchers experience peak growth in impact over the course of their careers. The study is guided by four research questions: (1) when …

Marx And Engels On Prisons And Capitalism, James Parisot Feb 2026

Marx And Engels On Prisons And Capitalism, James Parisot

Sociology Faculty Publications

This paper rethinks Marx and Engels’ comments on imprisonment and capitalism. While there has been a tendency to suggest the authors’ comments on crime and punishment were peripheral and secondary to their major projects, such as Marx’s Capital, this paper claims, in fact, their writings on incarceration were guided by their shared theoretical project which included historicizing systems of punishment as correlating with modes of production. Also, while more has been written on their ideas of criminality, instead, this paper excavates their thoughts on prisons, which have often been neglected. Overall, it shows there has been a tendency to …

Global Pathways: Suwon, South Korea - Semester Abroad Program Proposal, Amanda D. Ledger Jan 2026

Global Pathways: Suwon, South Korea - Semester Abroad Program Proposal, Amanda D. Ledger

Capstone Collection

This capstone proposes the Global Pathways: Suwon program, a semester-long study abroad initiative developed in partnership between Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and Kyonggi University (KGU) in Suwon, South Korea. The program responds to current limitations in study abroad, particularly the prevalence of short-term tourism-oriented experiences and curricula that prioritizes Western perspectives. A needs assessment consisting of student interviews, surveys, and professional consultation demonstrated strong interest in programs that combine language learning, cultural immersion, and career development. Findings also highlighted the importance of financial accessibility, reciprocal host partnerships, and ongoing advising support. Drawing on Freire’s critical pedagogy and Vygotsky’s sociocultural …

From Archives To Public Space: Art Archiving Practices In Indonesia, Ayu Astuti, Ike Iswary Lawanda Jan 2026

From Archives To Public Space: Art Archiving Practices In Indonesia, Ayu Astuti, Ike Iswary Lawanda

International Review of Humanities Studies

Art archives hold a crucial role in the production of knowledge and the writing of art history. In Indonesia, however, the management and accessibility of art archives remain uneven, resulting in significant gaps within art historiography. This article examines how art archives function not merely as repositories of documentation, but as cultural practices and public knowledge infrastructures that shape the conditions of art history writing. Using a qualitative approach, this study combines literature review with case studies of selected archival initiatives in Indonesia, including the Indonesian Visual Art Archive (IVAA), Pusat Dokumentasi Salihara, and Dicti Art Laboratory. The findings reveal …

Max Weber's Odyssey: The Wild West, The Frontier, And The Capitalist Spirit, David Norman Smith Jan 2026

Max Weber's Odyssey: The Wild West, The Frontier, And The Capitalist Spirit, David Norman Smith

Fast Capitalism

This article examines one aspect of Weber's thinking with respect to the United States: his view of frontier regions as new horizons for capitalism. This was not an incidental or side issue for Weber, whose famed analysis of The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism was only half-finished when he traveled through the United States in 1904. Nor is Weber's outlook on this topic immaterial for contemporary historians, many of whom now affirm quasi-Weberian views under such rubrics as "the New Western" history. A full account of Weber's notion of the frontier would exceed the limits of a journal …

A Town Of Their Own Making: Garrett Grove And Other Arkansas Freedom Settlements, Donna Shelton Jan 2026

A Town Of Their Own Making: Garrett Grove And Other Arkansas Freedom Settlements, Donna Shelton

Student Theses and Dissertations

This study is an examination of Black power movements through townbuilding in post-emancipation Arkansas delving into the perspectives of African American farmer-owners, business operators, educators, and community leaders who survived on the other side of slavery. Despite failed promises from so-called allies, or perhaps because of them and other societal betrayals, freedpeople carved out a place in the American landscape to establish All-Black communities and towns popularly known as “Black Towns” or “Freedmen Towns.” In contrast to most studies of Black towns, this study is situated in the South, specifically in Arkansas, to examine the more than three dozen freedom …

The Suspicions Of The Narrators Regarding The Falsification Of Military Reality An Analytical Study Of The Reasons Means And Intentions”A Historical Study Of Methods Means And Objectives” (11-132ah)/(632-750ad), Suzan Mohammed Hamed Al-Harthi

UB Journal for Humanities

The early Islamic era, following the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), witnessed a remarkable development in historical narrative writing. A group of narrators and writers, known as the early Akhbari narrators belonging to the Shi’a Akhbari school, addressed the events of that period. Their accounts revealed biases and interpretations linked to sectarian and political objectives, which influenced the framing of historical events. These biases often distorted historical truth, as seen in the events of Saqifa Bani Sa’ida, the Wars of Apostasy, and other incidents that will be discussed later in this research. Furthermore, most historical studies …
