Virtual Reality Simulation Prebrief: Promoting Psychological Safety And Clinical Reasoning, Holldrid Odreman, Ryan Mcnally, Christian Baltus
Virtual Reality Simulation Prebrief: Promoting Psychological Safety And Clinical Reasoning, Holldrid Odreman, Ryan Mcnally, Christian Baltus
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
A review of the simulation literature highlights the need to further understand the relationship between psychological safety and students’ clinical performance. Guided by Situated Learning Theory, this study aimed to determine to what extent there were differences in the experience of psychological safety and the performance of clinical judgement between three different pre-briefing techniques. Situated learning theory purports that learning is experienced within an individual's environment which is supported by the individual's active participation and shared with others. Therefore, as the collaboration and interaction between learner and educator during a pre-briefing activity increase, the level of support for learning and …

Epistemic Resilience As A Media Literacy Goal: Moving Beyond Detection In The Age Of Generative Ai, Author Information Removed
Epistemic Resilience As A Media Literacy Goal: Moving Beyond Detection In The Age Of Generative Ai, Author Information Removed
JMLE Submissions Open for Review
Generative AI, encompassing large language models, image generators, and voice synthesis tools, has transformed the information landscape in ways that extend well beyond the production of fabricated content. By undermining the evidentiary signals through which individuals and communities have historically calibrated epistemic trust, it poses a structural challenge to existing media literacy frameworks. These frameworks, built around a “detect-and-debunk” paradigm, equip learners to identify false content through source verification, fact-checking, and evidence evaluation. These skills remain valuable but rest on assumptions that generative AI has rendered progressively less tenable. This article proposes “epistemic resilience” as a complementary goal: the cultivated …
Adolescent Vulnerability To Disinformation, Polarisation, Filter Bubbles And Echo Chambers: A Systematic Review With Implications For Media Literacy Education, Author Information Removed
Adolescent Vulnerability To Disinformation, Polarisation, Filter Bubbles And Echo Chambers: A Systematic Review With Implications For Media Literacy Education, Author Information Removed
JMLE Submissions Open for Review
Disinformation, polarisation, filter bubbles and echo chambers pose growing risks to adolescents, as they are a group that consumes large amounts of information via social media. This paper presents a systematic review, following the PRISMA method, of the available empirical evidence on these risks among adolescents. Twelve empirical studies, published between 2019 and 2025, and collected from Web of Science and Scopus, were analysed. The results evidence that disinformation is the best-documented risk, whilst polarisation receives only marginal coverage and there is no direct empirical evidence regarding filter bubbles and echo chambers. Adolescents’ vulnerability is not uniform: it depends on …
Epidemic Dynamics Under Pulse Population Exchange, Hannah Kravitz, Christina Durón, Moysey Brio
Epidemic Dynamics Under Pulse Population Exchange, Hannah Kravitz, Christina Durón, Moysey Brio
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications and Presentations
Many epidemiological models assume either closed populations or continuous demographic turnover. We consider an intermediate setting in which exchange occurs through discrete pulses. In this paper, we introduce a population-conserving compartmental epidemiological model with pulse population exchange at a set of prescribed times. At each pulse, a fraction of the population in each compartment is replaced by a combination of susceptible and immunized individuals. In contrast to typical pulse birth or pulse vaccination models where only a single compartment undergoes a pulse population change, the pulses in this model have competing effects: removing infectious individuals reduces the force of infection, …
Expression Analysis Of Ferroptosis-Related Genes Gpx4 And Acsl4 In Iraqi Patients With Ulcerative Colitis: Association With Disease Activity, Abbas Ali Manshd
Expression Analysis Of Ferroptosis-Related Genes Gpx4 And Acsl4 In Iraqi Patients With Ulcerative Colitis: Association With Disease Activity, Abbas Ali Manshd
Muthanna Medical Journal
Background: Although ferroptosis has been identified as a key process in the pathophysiology of ulcerative colitis (UC), there is still little clinical data on ferroptosis-related gene expression. This study examined the expression of GPX4 and ACSL4 in peripheral blood from UC patients in Iraq and assessed their correlation with disease activity. Methods: In this case-control study involving 50 UC patients and 50 healthy controls, the 2-ΔΔ Ct technique assessed relative GPX4 and ACSL4 mRNA expression via quantitative real-time PCR. Disease activity was quantified using the Mayo Clinic Score, with ESR and CRP serving as inflammation indicators. …
Exploring The Intersectional Identities Of Youth Mentees And Their Mentors In Shaping The Quality And Duration Of Their Relationships, Kristian V. Jones, Theresa N. Melton, Amy J. Anderson, Thomas E. Keller, David L. Dubois
Exploring The Intersectional Identities Of Youth Mentees And Their Mentors In Shaping The Quality And Duration Of Their Relationships, Kristian V. Jones, Theresa N. Melton, Amy J. Anderson, Thomas E. Keller, David L. Dubois
School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations
Mentoring programs enjoy considerable empirical support as a strategy for supporting the positive development of youth, particularly those with marginalized identities (e.g., minoritized racial identities) and/or from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. There tends to be considerable variability, however, in both the quality of the mentor–mentee relationships established through programs and whether these relationships are sustained for intended periods of time. Research indicates these features of relationships can be significant influences on the outcomes of participating youth, thus making it imperative to better understand the factors that may contribute to mentoring relationship quality and duration. To expand inquiry in this area, the …
The Heterogeneous Impacts Of The Residential Component Of A Training Program: A Semi-Parametric Analysis, Jun Cai, Alfonso Flores-Lagunes, Xintong Wang
The Heterogeneous Impacts Of The Residential Component Of A Training Program: A Semi-Parametric Analysis, Jun Cai, Alfonso Flores-Lagunes, Xintong Wang
Upjohn Institute Working Papers
Several training programs worldwide are residential, bringing enrollees to live in facilities and thus increasing program costs. In the U.S., the Job Corps (JC) program for disadvantaged youth includes a residential component. Despite extensive literature evaluating JC, the impact of the residential component has received limited attention. We develop and employ a semi-parametric model to estimate the average causal effects of this residential component, accounting for selection into both the program and the residential feature. Our findings indicate that, for JC enrollees, the residential component boosts earnings, employment, and educational degree attainment among adolescents. For other subgroups, the residential component …

Examining The Nexus Of Economic Complexity With Energy Transition And Environmental Sustainability: A Systematic Literature Review, Neharika Singh, Meenakshi Gupta
Examining The Nexus Of Economic Complexity With Energy Transition And Environmental Sustainability: A Systematic Literature Review, Neharika Singh, Meenakshi Gupta
Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
Economic complexity captures the diversity and sophistication of productive knowledge and capabilities embedded in an economy. Research on the relationship between economic complexity, energy transition, and environmental quality is growing rapidly. However, their findings differ across countries, development levels, and different energy and environmental indicators. As a result, the conditions under which economic complexity contributes to energy transition and environmental sustainability remain unclear across different contexts. To address this gap, this study conducts a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines and applies the Theory–Context–Characteristics–Methodology (TCCM) framework to synthesize evidence on economic complexity, energy transition, and environmental sustainability. The studies were …

Supporting The Academic Success Of Undergraduate Nursing Students Through Peer Mentoring, Kate Fayer, Jill Campbell, Erin Higley
Supporting The Academic Success Of Undergraduate Nursing Students Through Peer Mentoring, Kate Fayer, Jill Campbell, Erin Higley
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The profession of nursing is incredibly demanding requiring extensive knowledge, clinical skills, and experience to develop the clinical judgment necessary to provide safe and effective patient care. According to Wang et al.1, undergraduate nursing students describe higher levels of stress and stress-related symptoms than the general student population. This increased level of stress is one of the most significant barriers facing undergraduate nursing students ability to complete their studies1-3. A peer mentoring program with undergraduate nursing students can help alleviate the adverse effects of stress and improve their overall academic performance1,4-5.

Tpb-Rivmhs: Theory-Based Scale Of Refugees’ Intentions For Virtual Mental Health Screening, Rami S. Elshalabi, Dana Hansen
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background / Problem Statement: Refugees experience disproportionately high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety due to trauma exposure and post-migration stressors (Hynie et al., 2023). Virtual mental health services have the potential to reduce structural barriers, yet participation in virtual screening remains limited among refugee populations (Mohamud et al., 2024). Language barriers, stigma, cultural beliefs, privacy concerns, and limited digital literacy collectively influence help-seeking behaviors and restrict engagement with virtual mental health platforms (Ekeleme et al., 2024; MacPherson, 2023). Structural factors such as internet access and affordability continue to constrain utilization (Matlin et al., 2024). Despite these barriers, …
Assessing Nursing Students' Knowledge And Attitudes Toward Older Adults, Desiree L. Fernandes, Jennifer A. Fearon-Lynch
Assessing Nursing Students' Knowledge And Attitudes Toward Older Adults, Desiree L. Fernandes, Jennifer A. Fearon-Lynch
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: The population of older adults in the United States is increasing and will require an increase in the number of nurses to care for this population. Evidence suggests that there are many biases, stereotypes, and myths associated with the older adult population, which influence nursing students’ attitudes toward working with this population.
Aim: Our aim was to assess the effect of an aging adult educational intervention on second-semester sophomore nursing students’ knowledge and attitudes toward older adults.
Method: This one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with qualitative questions was conducted at a college within the northeastern United States. Undergraduate second-semester sophomore …
Persistent Delegated Communication Brokering System And Method For Individuals With Intermittent Communication Access, Eric Zavesky
Persistent Delegated Communication Brokering System And Method For Individuals With Intermittent Communication Access, Eric Zavesky
Defensive Publications Series
A system and method for persistent delegated communication brokering on behalf of individuals with intermittent communication access is disclosed. The system captures a requester's outreach objectives during a brief communication session and structures them into a persistent obligation object that survives session termination, continuing to execute outreach, information gathering, and action coordination after the requester's communication channel has closed. The system resolves non-dialable contact references through multi-source discovery with contextual confidence scoring and a trust-tiered no-auto-contact gate. A multi-modal outreach agent conducts autonomous outreach with mandatory self-identification, optionally employing biometric cloning of the requester, and continuously classifies contacted-party responses into …

Predictive Workload Scheduling Using Multi-Domain Telemetry And Reliability Scoring, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
A system integrates out-of-band physical infrastructure telemetry into software-layer workload orchestration for predictive scheduling. A multi-domain telemetry aggregator ingests and normalizes data from disparate sources, including host hardware via baseboard management controllers, facility infrastructure sensors, and network switches. A predictive reliability engine processes this aggregated data using a machine learning or heuristic model to generate a quantitative reliability score for each compute node. The engine asynchronously updates these scores in a high-speed, in-memory cache to ensure low-latency access for the scheduler. Upon receiving a new workload request, a scheduler plugin queries the cache to filter out nodes with scores below …
