Momager Dearest: Why The Kidfluencer Industry Requires Stronger Regulation, Lewis, Annabel
Momager Dearest: Why The Kidfluencer Industry Requires Stronger Regulation, Lewis, Annabel
Santa Clara Law Review
In the last twenty years, social media has undergone a massive transformation. What began as a medium to connect with friends has evolved into a multi-billion-dollar industry where influencers reign supreme, profiting from their online personas. This opportunity is not limited to those old enough to operate their own accounts.
The recent rise of child influencers, known as “kidfluencers,” enables parents to profit from sharing aspects of their children’s lives on the internet. These accounts are not without benefit. Beyond their financial appeal, kidfluencer accounts can serve as a means for parents to bond with their children and may open …
From Silos To Systems: A Conceptual Framework For Workforce Aligned Oral Health Education, Meghan Bastin
From Silos To Systems: A Conceptual Framework For Workforce Aligned Oral Health Education, Meghan Bastin
2026 Scholarly Teaching Conference: Poster Session Papers
In the current U.S. educational system, becoming a dentist follows a few prescriptive pathways. Learners typically complete an undergraduate degree before entering time-intensive doctoral training. This results in only 3-4 years of direct professional education embedded within an eight -year process, while learners accumulate significant financial investment in their education. With the average cost of graduate-level dental education alone exceeding $300,000 and new federal borrowing limits likely to further constrain access, there is an opportunity to explore alternative ways of structuring oral health education.
This poster presents a conceptual, system-level framework that explores a perspective in which oral health education …

Noncognitive Predictors Of Academic Performance In Undergraduate Allied Health Professionals Students, Keleigh Pershina, Michael Mehall, Alexandra Hollo
2026 Scholarly Teaching Conference: Poster Session Papers
Undergraduate students in allied health professions face substantial academic, clinical, and personal demands that may affect academic performance and attainment of professional goals. Noncognitive factors such as stress, coping, and burnout have been identified as important contributors to academic outcomes in health professions education; however, empirical work examining these variables has yielded conflicting results. To identify potential student supports specific to undergraduate students within a land grant, rural serving institution in Appalachia, we conducted a survey to ask how personal factors such as burnout, stress, depression, and coping skills would predict academic success. A sample of 19 students complete a …

Professor David Strauss attributes the U.S. Supreme Court’s reactionary jurisprudence to a breakdown of elite consensus. He observes that lawyers and judges disagree about the proper “victims” of our political process: Are they Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ people or, instead, Whites, Christians, and gun owners? Strauss worries the jurisprudential approach that emerged from Carolene Products now allows for judicial intervention on behalf of groups loaded with political power. Even then, he insists on the classic liberal defense of the courts: that courts serve as an important if imperfect check against the majoritarian domination of minorities.
In this Essay, we identify …
Why Boards Should Have Rotating Contrarians, Dana Brakman Reiser, Claire A. Hill
Why Boards Should Have Rotating Contrarians, Dana Brakman Reiser, Claire A. Hill
Articles
Too often, for-profit and nonprofit boards are too passive, deferential or both. Their failures to engage their critical faculties have resulted in serious harms as diverse as Boeing planes crashing and the NRA squandering millions of dollars. This article proposes a simple mechanism to stimulate critical thinking by individual directors and improve overall board dynamics: a designated contrarian position that rotates among members of the board. During her term, the contrarian’s job would be to raise objections to the organization’s proposed actions – or inaction. After their terms, each contrarian would resume her duties as a regular board member, replaced …

Follow The Money: A Historical And Bibliometric Reflection On The Rise Of Law And Economics, 1970-2025, Scott H. Dewey
Articles
From roughly 1970 to 2010, law and economics rose from the margins to a dominant position in American legal academia, accompanied by a dramatic increase in citations to law and economics scholarship. Citation analysis is often treated as a proxy for intellectual merit, but that assumption becomes questionable when ideas are advanced through systematic, well-funded, and sustained promotion aimed at serving specific political and economic interests. This study examines the right-wing funding networks that supported the rise of law and economics and analyzes the resulting bibliometric patterns in legal scholarship. By tracing these financial and citation dynamics, the study argues …

Untangling Ai Openness, Parth Nobel, Alan Rozenshtein, Chinmayi Sharma
Articles
The debate over AI openness—whether to make components of an artificial intelligence system available for public inspection and modification—forces policymakers to balance innovation, democratized access, safety, and national security. By inviting startups and researchers into the fold, it enables independent oversight and inclusive collaboration. But technology giants can also use it to entrench their own power, while adversaries can use it to shortcut years and billions of dollars in building systems, like China’s DeepSeek, that rival our own. How we govern AI openness today will shape the future of AI and America’s role in it.
Policymakers and scholars grasp the …
Space Mining, Richard Painter
Space Mining, Richard Painter
Articles
The Trump Administration and U.S. Congress are promoting new ventures to extract valuable minerals from outer space. This Article does not dismiss the idea out of hand, but explores reasons for caution, including practical problems with space mining, its environmental impact, the likelihood that the United States could violate international law, and the risk of armed conflict. These problems are exacerbated by financial conflicts of interest in our government with a handful of billionaires, who have a financial interest in space mining work. The promotion of their agenda could involve wasteful government spending on subsidies for private ventures, with a …

State-Level Variations In School Physical Activity Policies And Their Impact On Student Physical Activity In Arkansas And Oklahoma, Sydney K. Crees, Erin Howie Hickey
2026 Honors Symposium
Regular physical activity is critical for children's health and development, yet most U.S. children fall short of recommended daily activity levels. Schools represent a key opportunity to address this gap through PE and recess, though state policies governing these vary widely. This cross-sectional study compared school-based physical activity in Arkansas and Oklahoma, two states with distinct policies. Arkansas mandates 40 minutes of daily recess and 40 minutes of PE per week, while Oklahoma requires 60 minutes of weekly PE and 60 minutes of additional weekly physical activity but does not mandate recess. Surveys were distributed to principals and PE teachers …

Prior to modeling, datasets were split into train and test sets. Standardization was applied to numeric features whilst categorical features were one-hot encoded. These transformations were later applied to the test set. Principal …
Hepatocyte Peroxisome Biogenesis And Phytol-Induced Metabolic Stress In Liver Disease, William Galloway
Hepatocyte Peroxisome Biogenesis And Phytol-Induced Metabolic Stress In Liver Disease, William Galloway
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Hepatocyte peroxisomes are required for metabolism of phytol-derived branched-chain fatty acids through the ACOX2-SCPx beta-oxidation pathway. This study tests whether hepatocyte-specific deletion of PEX16 (Pex16Alb-Cre), which eliminates peroxisome biogenesis, sensitizes the liver to phytol-induced injury. The Pex16Alb-Cre mice and their normal control Pex16fl/fl mice were fed the Lieber-DeCarli liquid with or without 0.1 percent phytol for eight weeks. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and liver index were measured. Liver sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and Masson’s trichrome. Immunoblot analysis of peroxisomal enzyme expression was also performed. Phytol had no effect in Pex16fl/fl mice as …
