Creation Of Air Quality Escape Room, Victoria Gillet, Matt Zabel, Delaney Cairns

Aurora GME

Introduction:

Social and structural drivers of health, including environmental exposures such as air pollution, are increasingly recognized as essential components of equitable health care delivery. Despite this, internal medicine residents often face barriers to meaningfully incorporating environmental health considerations into clinical decision-making. Increasing learner interaction with “gamification” of these subjects has shown promise in improving learner engagement, autonomy, and competence in nontraditional biomedical topics. This project describes the development of an immersive escape room–style educational intervention focused on the health impacts of air quality for internal medicine residents.

Methods:

In December of 2025, two internal medicine faculty participated in a …

Introduction

Unprofessional behavior in health professions education adversely affects patient care, team functioning, communication, and learner development. Traditional professionalism curricula often focuses on elements of professionalism (eg, integrity, respect, duty) that may fail to illuminate the relational consequences of unprofessional behaviors. We  developed an educational intervention that reframed professionalism through the lens of trust and entrustment.

Methods

The face-to-face intervention aimed to help learners analyze professional behaviors by examining their effects on patient safety, teamwork, and professional growth using a four-element trust framework. Beginning in February 2026, a multidisciplinary faculty /staff workgroup implemented a series of facilitated educational sessions across …

Delivering Sustainability: Improving Medical Waste Segregation Through Staff Education On Labor & Delivery, Haley Primuth, Kari Schmidt Oliver, Manuel R. Lamptey, Anne Getzin, Deborah Simpson

Aurora GME

Introduction

Climate change has known impacts on the health of the maternal-fetal dyad. Economic instability, flooding and displacement lead to reduced access to care, disrupted crop yields and food supply challenges. Extreme heat has been linked to increased rates of fetal growth restriction, preterm delivery and stillbirth. Healthcare makes up 4.4% of net global emissions and work on Labor and Delivery (L&D) generates significant waste. Even when incineration of regulated medical waste (“red bag waste”) is done properly, there are still emissions which include greenhouse gases, heavy metals, toxins and particulate matter. It is estimated that 3-10% of total waste …
