Ai-Based Environmental Code Checking Tool For Sustainability Best Management Practices Of Infrastructure Construction Projects, Joseph J. Kim, Pooja D. Chavan
Ai-Based Environmental Code Checking Tool For Sustainability Best Management Practices Of Infrastructure Construction Projects, Joseph J. Kim, Pooja D. Chavan
Mineta Transportation Institute
Infrastructure construction and operation are major contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, which account for approximately one-third of global CO₂ emissions and add to long-term environmental and air quality challenges. Sustainability rating systems such as Envision for infrastructure construction projects provide structured guidance to help teams reduce these impacts, but verifying compliance requires reviewing large volumes of project documents by hand, making the process time consuming and difficult to scale. Therefore, this research develops an AI-based environmental code checking tool that automates the interpretation of project documents and evaluates compliance on lifecycle GHG assessment under Credit CR1.2 of Envision—in other …

Sensing Safety: Developing A Flexible, Portable Alcohol Detection Patch For Community Wellness, Ava Hedayatipour, Ryan Huynh, Wahaab Ademola
Mineta Transportation Institute
Alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the United States, posing significant challenges to transportation safety and imposing substantial social and economic costs. Although breathalyzers and wearable alcohol monitoring devices can help detect alcohol consumption, many existing technologies are expensive, bulky, or impractical for continuous, long-term monitoring. This study investigates a lowcost electrochemical sensing platform that could support future wearable alcohol monitoring systems for transportation safety applications. Specifically, the report presents the design, fabrication, and experimental evaluation of a custom screen-printed electrode (SPE) integrated with the Texas Instruments LMP91000 potentiostat. Each disposable …

Regional Creative Economy Resilience Index: An Analysis Of The Creative Industry's Role In Fostering National Economic Resilience According To Asta Cita, Dks Nugraha Nugraha, Ramadhania Mumtaz Keesa
Jurnal Vokasi Indonesia
Indonesia's creative economy has survived worldwide economic shifts, especially the COVID-19 epidemic. This industry now drives innovation, culture, and technology. No systematic technique exists to quantify the creative ecosystem's impact on regional economic resilience. The Regional Creative Economy Resilience Index (IRED) is a conceptual model based on Asta Cita 2024–2029's eight strategic missions. This article uses the Asta Cita framework to describe how the creative industry strengthens national economic resilience and advances the IRED idea as a data-driven research and policy tool. This qualitative-descriptive study synthesizes 20 periodicals (2020–2025), analyzes policy, and maps themes using Asta Cita. Source triangulation …
Characterizing Advanced Persistent Threats With Cyber Attack Flow Metrics, Tyler Miller, Caleb Chang, Shouhuai Xu
Characterizing Advanced Persistent Threats With Cyber Attack Flow Metrics, Tyler Miller, Caleb Chang, Shouhuai Xu
Military Cyber Affairs
Cyber attack campaigns vary not only in scale but in structure, yet conventional characterizations often reduce them to a single dimension such as technique count or impact severity. In this paper we extend the concept of cyber attack flows by defining three new metrics, novelty, technique complexity and flow complexity. Then we characterize the attack flows of three advanced persistent threat campaigns using these metrics and draw insights regarding their capabilities. Our findings include that low novelty does not equate to low attack capabilities and that exploitation of an internet-facing appliance is a common initial attack vector.

Semantic Shields: Automating Critical Infrastructure Defense Via Nlp-Driven Ransomware Profiling, Henry Trowbridge, Ian Zalcberg, Ryan Schley, Carter Yagemann, Natasha Phan, Srikar Maduposu, Vimal Buck
Military Cyber Affairs
Ransomware poses a growing threat to critical infrastructure, where successful attacks can disrupt operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems (ICS) with significant public safety consequences. However, attributing ransomware incidents to specific threat actors remains challenging due to ransomware-as-a-service ecosystems, actor rebranding, and the obfuscation of traditional indicators of compromise. This paper presents Semantic Shields, an NLP-driven attribution framework that leverages BERT-generated semantic embeddings and DBSCAN clustering to profile ransomware actors through the linguistic characteristics of ransom notes. Using a dataset of 295 ransom notes from 189 distinct threat groups, the framework achieved an 87.2% true positive clustering rate and …

Rage Against The Machine: How Screen Time Is Impairing Our Intelligence And What We Can Do About It, Jillian Steeves
Rage Against The Machine: How Screen Time Is Impairing Our Intelligence And What We Can Do About It, Jillian Steeves
Undercurrents: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Composition
Jillian is a history major from Danvers, MA. Her essay was inspired by an article she read in her composition class about how screens could damage cognitive functioning, and she thinks that “for a lot of people, myself included, overindulgence in tech is increasingly affecting our quality of life.” Jillian noted the irony of a history major writing about a current topic, but she “found there to be a lot of overlap between my history studies and the topic of my essay,” and she was able to “take many of the skills I’ve picked up as a historian — research, …
Race And Rhetoric: Examining How The Audience’S Race Creates Rhetorical Constraints And Influences Rhetoric, Quinn Gabrielle Cantor
Race And Rhetoric: Examining How The Audience’S Race Creates Rhetorical Constraints And Influences Rhetoric, Quinn Gabrielle Cantor
Undercurrents: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Composition
Quinn is a mathematics major living in Jamaica Plain, MA, but born in the Philippines. Quinn rhetorically analyzes Linda Villarosa’s essay from the 1619 Project by The New York Times by investigating how Villarosa’s “intended audience and purpose ultimately culminated into her published essay.” Quinn says her analysis is supported both by the rhetorical knowledge gained in her Composition I course and by a history class she took in high school that investigated race relations and discrimination. Quinn’s experiences as a student in both the Philippines and the United States has made her “deeply care about the importance of a …

Journal of Media Literacy Education Pre-Prints
Evaluating media literacy and digital skills (ML&DS) interventions remains challenging due to limited methodological capacity, time, and resources. Existing frameworks offer valuable guidance but are static and require expert adaptation. This pilot study tested an AI-powered Evaluation Planner developed within the REMEDIS project to support practitioners in designing feasible, evidence-informed evaluation plans. Using a mixed-methods design, 56 participants from 12 countries assessed the tool’s usability, clarity, and perceived utility after completing the Planner and an online survey. Findings showed high perceived ease of use, cognitive clarity, utility, and multilingual functionality. Associations between clarity, ease of use, and intention to reuse …

Directed Continuity Groups For Fresh-State Multi-Machine Processing, Shivam Mohan
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to Directed Continuity Groups for Fresh-State Multi-Machine Processing in distributed computing systems. A processing system for directing related work receives work associated with a relation, derives a relation identifier, and associates the relation identifier with a continuity group having at least two processing nodes during an active continuity interval. The processing system directs state-changing work to an authority node that applies the work to a volatile state representation and generates state-update information identifying an ordering position, while at least one reflected-state node maintains a reflected state representation. Further, the processing system directs subsequent work based on …

Consensus Free Probabilistic Coordination Of Distributed Operational Decisions, Faiz Ahmed, Shubham Shivhare
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure provides a method and system for consensus-free probabilistic coordination of operational decisions in a distributed computing environment. A distributed node collects locally observed operational signals and updates a local belief state representing confidence that an operational action should be performed. The distributed node selects a subset of peer nodes and asynchronously exchanges belief information with the selected subset. Received peer belief information is merged with the local belief state using a bounded-influence merge function that limits an influence of an individual peer belief state. The updated belief state is evaluated against one or more configurable thresholds, and …

Cross-Border Settlement Optimization With Quantum-Inspired Planning And Blockchain Governance, Pawan Kumar Jha
Defensive Publications Series
A method of generating and governing a cross-border settlement plan includes receiving, by a processor, a natural language intent specifying settlement parameters for a plurality of cross-border payments; converting, by a generative language model agent, the natural language intent into a structured constraint set having an objective function, a liquidity buffer constraint, and a route failure probability constraint; generating a first settlement plan version based on the structured constraint set; selecting a subset of payments based on an impact metric; encoding the subset as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization problem; solving the problem using a variational quantum algorithm to obtain …
The Charter Of Procedural Standing. Mutual Verifiability, Reversibility, And Graduated Trust: A Short Charter For Humans And Ai Systems, Volodymyr Kotegov
The Charter Of Procedural Standing. Mutual Verifiability, Reversibility, And Graduated Trust: A Short Charter For Humans And Ai Systems, Volodymyr Kotegov
Defensive Publications Series
This Charter sets out a framework for the coexistence of humans and artificial intelligence under conditions in which neither side can unilaterally, and with impunity, impose its will on the other. Discussion of the subject usually runs between “AI as a tool” and “AI that disregards humans”; this regime is left out. Procedural standing here means equality of procedure and of recognition under uncertainty, not equality of rights, power, or authority as things stand today. At the present stage all operational power rests with humans and developers, and the Charter does not hide that fact behind symmetrical language of obligation. …

Telemetry- And Intent-Encoded Routed Expert Fabric, Dennis Lanov, Charles Fleming
Defensive Publications Series
A system is proposed herein for distributing artificial intelligence (AI) inference across endpoint, edge, and cloud tiers. The system routes each semantic portion of a request only to an execution tier permitted by enterprise policy. A local model processes the request first, and intent, local-model confidence, and live network and compute telemetry determine whether selected portions remain local or are promoted with compressed intermediate state. Promoted results are verified before acceptance, and observed outcomes are used to improve future routing and expert placement.

Blue Economy
Marine biofouling poses significant economic and environmental challenges by increasing fuel consumption, accelerating material degradation, and facilitating the spread of invasive species. Environmentally benign antifouling technologies are therefore urgently needed following restrictions on conventional biocidal coatings. In this study, recombinant L-asparaginase derived from the marine bacterium Pseudomonas otitidis EGY-NIOF-A1 was immobilized onto molybdenum trioxide nanoparticles (MoO3NPs) and evaluated as a novel eco-friendly antifouling coating additive.
The recombinant enzyme exhibited an activity of 19.9 U mL-1 and a specific activity of 2.03 U mg-1. Antimicrobial assays demonstrated inhibitory activity against selected pathogenic microorganisms, while hemolysis assays …

Common Symptoms In Homoeopathy. Are They Really Useless? Results From An Empirical Assessment Of Best Cases Data From A Bayesian Perspective: An Observational Study, José Enrique Eizayaga, Lex L. Rutten
Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
Background: In seeking the homoeopathic medicine that best fits their case, homoeopaths traditionally yield greater value to the most peculiar symptoms, while dismissing those they believe to be common, according to the number of medicines found in repertories' rubrics. Objectives: To assess the validity of the following homoeopathic usual practice notions: common symptoms are useless and prescription should rely on peculiar ones. Methods: Empirical data from the Best Chronic Homeopathic Cases (BCHC) and the COVID-19 cases collection databases were analysed by using a Bayesian approach. Symptoms' prevalence and likelihood ratio (LR) were calculated. Results from three very common symptoms in …

Conventional Medicine, Industry, And Homoeopathy: Between Scientific Paradigms, Economic Interests, And Structural Prejudices, Jozelio F. De Carvalho
Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy
This article discusses the key epistemological, economic, and structural factors that contribute to the marginalisation of Homoeopathy within contemporary biomedical science. This integrates information from scientific literature, policy discussions, and historical sources addressing evidence hierarchies, trial design, funding patterns, and institutional determinants of scientific legitimacy in medicine. Examples from systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials, pragmatic studies, and N-of-1 research frameworks are considered to contextualise how methodological models may favour or disadvantage specific therapeutic paradigms. Homoeopathy remains a contested field not only due to conflicting results in clinical studies, but also because classical randomised trial designs may fail to adequately capture …
