Introduction to Part 2 of Shakers at the Center: Manifesting Spirits & Spectacles in Nineteenth-Century America
"Shakers, Era of Manifestations, Mother's Work, New Era, Eunice BathrickEunice Bathrick bore witness to the spectacular developments of the Era of Manifestations. She wrote voluminously for the spirits and received dozens of personal messages and gifts in return. She participated in all the ritual innovations of the period, including the Passover feasts at Harvard’s Holy Hill of Zion. And she endorsed the “Sacred Roll” without hesitation. Bathrick’s extensive writings from this period— along with those of hundreds of other Believers—called forth an extravagant new …

A Data-Driven Framework For Automation Readiness In Minnesota State University, Mankato Course Scheduling, Prisca Bongu Payanzo Maba
A Data-Driven Framework For Automation Readiness In Minnesota State University, Mankato Course Scheduling, Prisca Bongu Payanzo Maba
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
University course scheduling is one of the most complex optimization problems in higher education institutions. With universities growing in size and offering a broad spectrum of majors and disciplines, the number of possible course scheduling combinations increases exponentially, rendering traditional ways of scheduling ineffective.
Although operations research has extensively studied automated scheduling algorithms, there has been limited investigations into the organization readiness of academic departments to implement such systems. This paper offers a hybrid data science framework that assesses departmental readiness for scheduling automation.
The study combines qualitative Zoom interview data from 19 academic departments with institutional scheduling rules from …

Book in Common
Introduction: Let's surround our students and community members this coming academic year with some common reading amongst the disciplines. 5 This year, we're reading Hua Hsu's Stay True. Not only is this book a Pulitzer-Prize winning memoir, but it's also a coming-of-age story about college life, friendship, music, identity, grief, race, 90's pop culture, philosophers, and technology. It's bound to be of interest to students as they, too, are encountering challenges of the day.

This workbook is for students, faculty, and practitioners of all kinds. It is designed to playfully and insightfully strengthen your skills in giving and receiving feedback. It’s also a call to action: to examine how our personal biases, cultural frameworks, and institutional structures shape the ways we respond to creative work. Throughout the pages that follow, you’ll find exercises intended to deepen your critique practice.
The Critique Repository: Volume 1 emerges from the collaborative work of students and faculty in the Patterns and Feedback: Trauma-Informed Critique research group through the Center for Collaborative Research, Edwards College of Humanities and Fine …

An Originalist Interpretation Of Article Iii Permits And Favors Bivens Actions As A Recognition Of The Intrinsic Connection Between Rights And Remedies, Shrivathsan Margam S
Mitchell Hamline Law Journal of Public Policy and Practice
The Bivens Doctrine, which stands for the principle that judges may infer private causes of action for money damages against federal officers from a constitutional text that does not expressly create such remedies, has faced attack from Originalists on the Supreme Court of the United States. Every case seeking to extend the Bivens principle to a new context meets rejection from the Court with concurrences calling for overturning it altogether. This Article will argue that an Originalist approach to interpreting the Constitution, specifically the Original Methods subset of the ascendant lens of Original Public Meaning, permits and counsels in favor …
From Player Piano To Generative Ai: Artificial Expression And The Law Of Copyright, Douglas Lind, Adrienne Holz
From Player Piano To Generative Ai: Artificial Expression And The Law Of Copyright, Douglas Lind, Adrienne Holz
Fordham Intellectual Property, Media and Entertainment Law Journal
American copyright law has experienced challenges and sometimes faltered when confronting mechanical reproduction. This Article retraces the rise and diffusion of the player piano and the phonograph, examining how they reshaped the making and listening to music. As these technologies spread throughout American society more rapidly than copyright law could adjust, courts misclassified piano rolls and records as merely mechanics. Reducing these new fixations to machinery rather than embodiments of human expression left recorded human musical performances inadequately protected, which facilitated piracy. Applying these lessons, this Article contends that generative AI training implicates copyright law in ways not dissimilar to …

Partially Penalized Anisotropic Trilinear Ife-Pic Methods For Dc Plasma Transport Problems, Jiahui Li, Guangqing Xia, Yajie Han, Ziping Wang, Chang Lu, Xiaoming He
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works
Implicit and hybrid particle-in-cell methods are widely used for efficient simulation of DC discharge plasma transport. However, their computations require solving anisotropic elliptic equations and face challenges related to mesh geometry, non-axisymmetry, and complex interfaces. Moreover, the accuracy of particle trajectories is critical for plasma etching and erosion studies, where errors near interfaces can significantly impact simulation results. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a three-dimensional anisotropic trilinear partially penalized immersed finite element (ATPPIFE) method, which captures interfaces on Cartesian meshes and effectively reduces discontinuities at interface element faces, ensuring that particle trajectories better align with real-world behavior. Building …
