Inverse Problem In The Large Momentum Effective Theory Framework, Herve Dutrieux, Joe Karpie, Christopher J. Monahan, Kostas Orginos, Anatoly Radyushkin, David Richards, Savvas Zafeiropoulos

Physics Faculty Publications

One proposal to compute parton distributions from first principles is the large momentum effective theory (LaMET), which requires the Fourier transform of matrix elements computed nonperturbatively. Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) provides calculations of these matrix elements over a finite range of Fourier harmonics that are often noisy or unreliable in the largest computed harmonics. It has been suggested that enforcing an exponential decay of the missing harmonics helps alleviate this issue. Using nonperturbative data, we show that the uncertainty introduced by this inverse problem in a realistic setup remains significant without very restrictive assumptions, and that the importance of the …

Environmental Protection In War: Beyond Humans And Nature, Alexandra Huneeus, Pablo Rueda-Saiz Jan 2026

Environmental Protection In War: Beyond Humans And Nature, Alexandra Huneeus, Pablo Rueda-Saiz

Articles

War is not just a human tragedy-it is an environmental catastrophe. Across the globe, armed conflicts leave behind oil-slickened rivers, poisoned soils, and forests reduced to barren landscapes. These harms last for generations, but they are not borne equally. The peoples who live most intimately with the land-drawing from it food, water, culture, and identity-suffer the most enduring losses. Their very existence as a people may be put at risk.

This Article asks: How have the laws of war addressed environmental destruction, and, more specifically, what protection do they afford to communities whose very existence is bound to the places …

A Quantum Walk Through Sustainability: Nonlinear Thinking For A Nonlinear World, Sanjay Wahal Jan 2026

A Quantum Walk Through Sustainability: Nonlinear Thinking For A Nonlinear World, Sanjay Wahal

Trade & Scholarly Monographs

We are living through a planetary inflection point. Conventional sustainability thinking-rooted in linear logic, siloed disciplines, and incremental fixes-no longer suffices. The climate crisis is nonlinear. Our response must be as well.

In this book, Dr. Sanjay Wahal, global systems strategist and founder of Decarbonization, LLC, delivers a visionary, paradigm-shifting framework that draws inspiration from quantum theory to reimagine how we think, act, and lead for climate action.

This is not a book about quick fixes or silver bullets. It is a meditation on coherence, emergence, and transformation. It is for those who believe sustainability is not just a policy …

Toward Neurosymbolic Reinforcement Learning Via Editable Specifications, Vedant Khandelwal, Hong Yung Yip, Amit Sheth Jan 2026

Toward Neurosymbolic Reinforcement Learning Via Editable Specifications, Vedant Khandelwal, Hong Yung Yip, Amit Sheth

Publications

Reinforcement learning systems are commonly adapted to new settings by retraining or fine-tuning policies. This default is costly, difficult to audit, and poorly aligned with structured requirement changes such as revised safety rules, new operational constraints, or updated user preferences. We argue for an alternative abstraction: adaptation via edits to an external, human-readable specification that the agent consults at execution time. We propose conditioning decision-making on an editable knowledge graph encoding (i) rules capturing action applicability and high-level effects, (ii) hard constraints defining feasibility, and (iii) soft preferences shaping tradeoffs among feasible behaviors. Requirement changes become graph edits, not policy …

The Paradox Of Matriliny: Cultural Authority And The Political Marginalization Of Women In Meghalaya, Kasturi Bharadwaj

Journal of International Women's Studies

The global discourse on gender equality gained momentum after the 1975 United Nations World Conference on Women. It continued through a series of international initiatives and culminated in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which emphasized women’s rights and their participation in political, social, and economic life. Despite these normative commitments at the international level, women’s political participation and representation within administrative and decision-making structures continue to be uneven, limited, and structurally constrained across many societies. In this context, the study investigates the political participation and representation of women in Meghalaya, a tribal state in Northeast India characterized by …

Procedural Apartheid? How Racial Harassment Cases And Their Proponents Are Subject To Separate And Unequal Due Process, Suzette M. Malveaux Jan 2026

Procedural Apartheid? How Racial Harassment Cases And Their Proponents Are Subject To Separate And Unequal Due Process, Suzette M. Malveaux

Scholarly Articles

This article makes three unique contributions. First, it introduces the theoretical framework and coins the term “procedural apartheid.” Simply put, when race is invoked as the basis for misconduct, procedural protection is meted out inequitably, often to the detriment of people of color. This phenomenon is situated in the law’s larger project to preference colorblindness over race-conscious ameliorative efforts. The article invites the reader to broadly consider where separate and unequal proceduralism exists because of the centrality of race. This article deploys the term “apartheid”—not literally, but strategically—to highlight the systemic legal and racial nature of this hierarchical divide.

Continuity And Development In The Eschatological Sabbath: Themes In Seventh-Day Adventist Thought (1842–2020), Joseph Nesbit

Dissertations

The Topic

This dissertation explores continuity and development in the eschatological understanding of the seventh-day Sabbath within selected Adventist theological writings from its Millerite origins to the contemporary scholarship of Jo Ann Davidson. The eschatological aspects of the Sabbath have played a central role in both pioneer and contemporary Adventist thought, particularly in its identification as the seal of God in Revelation and as a sign of covenant loyalty in the final crisis. While this understanding has displayed remarkable continuity in its essential themes, it has also undergone significant maturation in tone, scope, and theological emphasis. By tracing both enduring …

When Social Inflation Pushes The "Good Neighbor" Away: How Market Exit Behavior Triggers Brand Betrayal And Trust Erosion, Waros Ngamsiriudom, Mohan Menon, Mitra Devkota Jan 2026

When Social Inflation Pushes The "Good Neighbor" Away: How Market Exit Behavior Triggers Brand Betrayal And Trust Erosion, Waros Ngamsiriudom, Mohan Menon, Mitra Devkota

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Social inflation, marked by rising litigation severity, shifting jury attitudes, and expanding third-party litigation funding, has intensified financial pressures on insurers operating in disaster-prone markets. In response, many insurers have withdrawn or restricted coverage, creating a sharp disconnect between long-standing brand promises and current market behaviors. This article examines how these systemic pressures produce “brand betrayal,” a consumer perception arising when insurers’ market exit actions contradict their relational positioning as reliable, community-oriented partners. Drawing on signaling theory, relationship marketing, and institutional perspectives, the article develops a conceptual framework linking social inflation to brand trust erosion through market exit behavior. The …

Sweet Skepticism: Health Consciousness And Consumer Resistance To Health-Oriented Gummy Products, Raghava Gundala Dr, Kathleen Mckee, Pritosh Kumar

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Health consciousness is usually modeled as a driver of demand for healthier food. This study asks what happens to that relationship when the product itself is indulgent. Survey data were collected from students at a public university in the United States, and a first-stage moderated mediation model (PROCESS Model 7) was estimated on the 231 respondents with complete data. After adjustment for perceived marketing effectiveness and demographic covariates, health consciousness was negatively related to perceptions of health-oriented gummy products and to purchase frequency, although its zero-order correlation with product perception was near zero. Part of the health-consciousness relationship with purchase …

Heat Transfer From A Partially Buried Circular Cylinder In Oscillatory Flow, H. Thomas, R. Stuhlmeier, A. G.L. Borthwick, S. Michele

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

With the growing abundance of man-made cylindrical structures located on or close to the seabed, it is important to be able to assess their potential environmental impact. Herein, a model is presented of the viscous-thermal boundary layer in the vicinity of a circular cylinder resting on, or partially buried in, an otherwise flat seabed. To model the influence of wave-induced motions near such a cylinder, we assume oscillatory flow in which the water particle displacements are small with respect to the cylinder radius. A perturbation expansion is utilised to derive solutions of the boundary layer equations, leading to analytical solutions …

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

This research explores the latter portion of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s career and her distinguishing herself as a womanist/feminist icon. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has been regarded as a popular music icon since her days as the lead singer in the R&B group Destiny's Child. The group’s music, including songs like "Say My Name" and "Independent Women", have often been recognized by cultural critics as empowerment anthems for women and girls. When Beyoncé performed at the Video Music Awards in 2014, the sample of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's 2013 Ted Talk on feminism in her song "Flawless" precipitated a more focused discourse about the authenticity …

Against Audiepistemic Injustice: Claiming Deaf Futurity, Pamela R. Conley Jan 2026

Against Audiepistemic Injustice: Claiming Deaf Futurity, Pamela R. Conley

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

This dissertation proposes a new theoretical framework: Audiepistemic Injustice (AEI). Expanding upon existing theories of epistemic injustice (EI), I identify AEI as the systemic marginalization and dismissal of deaf ways of knowing. AEI is a multidimensional phenomenon rooted in the nineteenth century, when auditory and linguistic biases became codified across education, law, and literature. This interdisciplinary study interrogates three nineteenth-century literary narratives as primary case studies to examine AEI: (1) Ivan Turgenev’s “Mumu,” (2) Guy de Maupassant’s “The Deaf Mute,” and (3) Abigail Bradley Hyde’s “The Deaf and Dumb Child: A True Narrative.” I synthesize these literary works with legal …

Healing Attachment Wounds Through Romantic Love: Exploring Narratives Of Earned Security, Ashlyn Griffith

Antioch University Dissertations & Theses

This dissertation explored how earned attachment security is experienced and developed within long-term romantic relationships through couples’ shared narratives. Using dyadic interviews, the study focused on romantic partners in which one individual demonstrated continuous attachment security while the other described a shift toward earned security over time. Although existing attachment research has examined the traits that encourage security in other relational contexts, limited research has explored the lived attachment experiences of couples or their shared understanding of how security develops within romantic love. Five long-term romantic couples participated in semi-structured dyadic interviews designed to elicit shared narratives of relationship development, …
