Vincentians Versus Jansenists: Violence During A Mission, John E. Rybolt C.M. Oct 2026

Vincentians Versus Jansenists: Violence During A Mission, John E. Rybolt C.M.

Vincentian Studies

This study presents and translates the text of an anonymous Jansenist pamphlet of 1739 which narrates a series of violent events that took place during a mission that French Vincentians preached in the parish of Le Plessis-Rozainvilliers. The pastor and the Vincentian mission team both fueled the outbreak of violence. The incidents described offer harrowing insight into attitudes and strongly held beliefs of the era. The context for this was the period of great conflict within France spurred by the bull of Clement XI, Unigenitus [Dei filius], issued on 8 September 1713 to condemn a Jansenist theologian. Rybolt provides an …

Laudato Si’ And The Vincentian Charism, Sharon Horace D.C., Mary Jo Stein D.C.

Vincentian Studies

Members of the Vincentian family see the presence of Christ in our brothers and sisters who experience poverty. The encyclical Laudato Si’ by Pope Francis (2015) reveals ways that the poverty of earth and the poverty of people are interconnected. He invites all to adapt an integral ecology to respond to the cries of our earth and the cries of the poor. This article presents a concise overview of Vincentian history through the lens of our founders’ connections to the natural world in their timeframe to demonstrate that integral ecology is a Vincentian value. It invites readers to consider how …

Stem Cell-Based Therapies In Periodontology And Implant Dentistry: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Abdullah Saeed, Marycris Padrigo Oct 2026

Stem Cell-Based Therapies In Periodontology And Implant Dentistry: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Abdullah Saeed, Marycris Padrigo

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Introduction: Periodontal disease and peri-implantitis remain the leading causes of tooth and implant loss, and conventional regenerative procedures consistently fall short of full structural restoration. Stem cell therapies have emerged as a promising alternative, operating through multi-lineage differentiation, immunomodulation via paracrine signaling, and extracellular vesicle communication. Prior systematic reviews, however, lacked methodological rigor — omitting clustering adjustments, REML/HKSJ estimation, prediction intervals, and publication bias modeling.

Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated whether stem cell therapy produces superior clinical and radiographic outcomes compared to cell-free controls in adults with periodontal or peri-implant bone defects.

Methods: Searches across …

Evaluation Of Enamel Demineralization Around Bonded Lingual Retainers Cured Using The Transillumination Technique: An In Vitro Sem Study, Monis Raza, Achint Juneja, Udit Chaudhary, Anju Treesa Jacob, Vikas Thakur, Aayush Sudan

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Introduction: Polymerization technique may influence enamel demineralization around bonded lingual retainers by affecting adhesive integrity.

Methods: Eighty-four mandibular incisors were randomly allocated to conventional curing (30 s), transillumination (30 s), or combined curing (15 s each). Specimens underwent pH cycling and were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. Demineralization was scored (0–3), and linear lesion depth was measured. Data were analyzed using Kruskal–Wallis, Bonferroni, and Mann–Whitney tests (p ≤ 0.05).

Results: Combined curing significantly reduced demineralization compared with conventional and transillumination protocols (p < 0.001). Gingival regions showed significantly greater demineralization than occlusal regions across all groups.

Conclusions: Combined curing improved enamel preservation and may be an effective strategy for bonded …

of Daniel 11 are at least partially due to the ambiguities of the anaphoric references in the chapter. This study attempts to clarify some of the ambiguities by applying de Regt’s rules for the identification of anaphoric references. The author does not present his own interpretation of the chapter but offers brief observations on some current Adventist interpretations.

An Epistemological Reading Of Second Peter With An Application To Theological Discourse, Terry Robertson Oct 2026

An Epistemological Reading Of Second Peter With An Application To Theological Discourse, Terry Robertson

Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)

community (2 Pet 1), contrasted with those of the false teachers (2 Pet 2), are applied to a truth versus error issue (2 Pet 3). The theme developed in 2 Peter of “growing in knowledge” may be viewed as relational, performative, and consequential. The Christian disciple is equipped to “be not deceived” and to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:17–18 NIV)—both in the discernment and proclamation of truth. I propose that Peter’s message speaks to theological discourse, how members of the learning community who pursue biblical theology engage one another …

Theories Of Creation Day Inception: Their Nature, History, And Features, Brian Hollis Oct 2026

Theories Of Creation Day Inception: Their Nature, History, And Features, Brian Hollis

Andrews University Seminary Studies (AUSS)

The debate over creation day inception, when the creation days commenced according to the day one account of Gen 1:3–5, has persisted since the earliest times of Christianity. This article explores why this debate has continued so long by surveying the history of the debate and by examining the components of the major theories which have been proposed. The connection of the debate to other theological disputes, along with the fact that neither morning nor evening theory has satisfactorily addressed the temporal challenges of the day one account as yet, have both contributed to the persistence of this debate. Though …

Estimation Of Unmeasurable External Disturbances Of A Dynamic Object Based On A Robust Adaptive Kalman Filter, Bunyod Mamurjon Ugli Buronov

Technical science and innovation

This article considers the problem of directly estimating unmeasurable external disturbances acting on a dynamic object under the condition that the state vector of the object is available for measurement. In the considered case, the problem is reduced to the estimation of an unknown input of a dynamic system. It is shown that when the system state is measurable, both a direct inversion scheme based on the object’s dynamic equation and filtering methods that eliminate the need for coarse numerical differentiation can be applied. For slowly varying disturbances, a random walk model with a small process noise covariance is proposed, …

Barrel-Rides And She-Elves: Audience And Anticipation In Peter Jackson’S Hobbit Trilogy, Janet Croft Oct 2026

Barrel-Rides And She-Elves: Audience And Anticipation In Peter Jackson’S Hobbit Trilogy, Janet Croft

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, to the audience that loved the Lord of the Rings films, is an exciting opportunity to revisit Tolkien’s fantastic world and see favorite characters acting out their earlier adventures. The reader of the books, though, is often likely to find the difference in tone between the children’s book and the vastly expanded films jarring. This essay will explore audience expectations, the difficulties of filming a “prequel” after a “sequel,” and issues of “anticipation” in relation to character development.

Oxford At War: “Leaf By Niggle” As A Wartime Work, Part 1, Josh B. Long Oct 2026

Oxford At War: “Leaf By Niggle” As A Wartime Work, Part 1, Josh B. Long

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

J. R. R. Tolkien suggested that "Leaf by Niggle" was written around 1938-1939; however, Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull argue that it was actually composed in 1942. This corrected date changes how one reads the story: often viewed as an autobiographical allegory of art and faith, “Leaf by Niggle” falls into place as a wartime work, informed and transformed by the World War II pressures of Tolkien’s Oxford—the city and the University. This article situates the story within WWII and analyzes how that context influenced the imagery, characterization, symbols, and motifs of "Leaf."
