Openness To Experience And Creative Capacity Among Active First Responders, William Reagan
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Because emergency services demand adaptive, creative problem-solving within procedurally rigid cultures, this study examined whether Openness to Experience predicted creative capacity among active first responders and whether age or tenure moderated that relationship. A cross-sectional design used N = 117 first responders from eight agencies. Openness was measured with the Big Five Inventory-2 (percentile ranks); creativity was assessed with the Divergent Association Task (DAT; n = 116) and the Consensual Assessment Technique (CAT; n = 111). Covariates were age, tenure, rank, gender, and, for 46 participants at one agency, a dispatch-derived operational exposure score. In the full sample, Openness did …

Cortical Plasticity Following Peripheral Nerve Injury In The Upper Extremity, Samah Gassass
Cortical Plasticity Following Peripheral Nerve Injury In The Upper Extremity, Samah Gassass
WUSM Theses and Dissertations – All Programs
Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) in the upper extremity results in significant sensorimotor impairment. Nearly 40-50% of patients affected by PNI fail to restore normal hand and arm function and recovery remains variable. Recovery related cortical plasticity is recognized as an important factor, though its relationship to meaningful outcomes remains unclear. This dissertation examined how cortical activity patterns relate to functional recovery after PNI through a systematic review and three subsequent cross-sectional studies.
The systematic review of multimodal neuroimaging studies on cortical plasticity after upper extremity nerve transfer found that good recovery is generally linked to restoration of contralateral or typical …

Hybrid meeting platforms give remote attendees structured side-channel mechanisms—virtual hand raises, emoji reactions, poll responses—that are entirely absent for in-room participants, whose non-verbal behaviour remains visible only inside the physical room. This paper describes a bridging system that observes in-room participants through a shared room camera, detects a defined vocabulary of natural non-verbal signals (nodding, head-shaking, raised hands, and postural cues), and translates each qualified signal into a corresponding structured reaction event within the conferencing platform’s existing reaction model. The result is a unified reaction channel in which in-room and remote participants are represented with equivalent expressive bandwidth, without requiring …
