Investigating The Effects Of Fly Ash On The Properties Of Silica-Deficient High Alumina Materials, Sai Akshay Ponduru
Investigating The Effects Of Fly Ash On The Properties Of Silica-Deficient High Alumina Materials, Sai Akshay Ponduru
Doctoral Dissertations
This research is made up of five studies mainly focused on attaining sustainability in high alumina cements like calcium aluminate cement (CAC) and calcium sulfoaluminate belite cements (CSAB) by partially replacing them with additives and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) like fly ash (FA). The first study focused on understanding the reaction kinetics of CAC and FA binders at different replacement levels (i.e. between 10%-to-50% by mass) and their effect on mechanical properties. It was also shown that the reactive nature of FAs can be determined by calculating a single parameter called number of constraints (nc) derived from topological constraint theory. …
Identification Of Corrosion Damage, Vibration, And Loose Conections In Aircraft Data Transmission Lines Using Reflected And Transmitted Signals; Formulation Of Vegetable Oil-Based Nanofluids As Cutting Fluids For Mql Machining, Saidanvardzhon Valiev
Doctoral Dissertations
This research presents a novel Frequency Domain Transmitometry (FDT) method that uses transmitted signals (S21) to detect and characterize aircraft data transmission lines (ADTL) corrosion damage without additional reflectometry circuitry. Corrosion experiments were conducted according to ASTM G85-A5 over 14 weeks. Combined FDT and reflected signals (S11) analyses revealed distinct three-peak signatures associated with damage and corrosion. The square root of the Area Under the Curve (AUC) of the FDT damage peak and the Full Width at Three-Quarter Maximum (FW3QM) of the S11 damage peak is correlated with corrosion propagation depth and width. S11 signals were further used for vibration …

INTRODUCTION: Adipose tissue, once viewed primarily as an energy reservoir, is now recognized as an endocrine organ involved in various physiological functions, including energy balance and immune responses. Interestingly, recent insights suggest that not all overweight or obese individuals exhibit insulin resistance, guiding the focus towards depot-specific adipose gene expression and its metabolic implications. This pilot study investigates adipose depot-specific differences in gene expression in abdominal versus femoral subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) among non-obese, insulin-sensitive (IS) and insulin-resistant (IR) individuals, aiming to elucidate underlying mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction.
METHODS: Seventeen non-obese participants scheduled for body contouring surgery provided paired SAT …

INTRODUCTION: Adipogenesis is an essential process for energy storage, hormone regulation, and overall metabolic health. Previous work showed that impaired adipogenesis plays an important role in the development of obesity-associated insulin resistance. This project investigates the role of impaired adipogenesis in the development of insulin resistance among non-obese (lean/overweight) individuals under physiological and pathological microenvironments.
METHODS: Subcutaneous adipose tissue samples were obtained from insulin-sensitive and insulin-resistant non-obese cohorts undergoing maxillofacial or body contouring surgeries. Preadipocytes were isolated and examined for proliferation and adipogenic capacity, insulin signaling, and inflammatory markers. These assessments were conducted under basal conditions and following treatment with …

Petechiae And A Persistent Violaceous Nodule: A Presentation Of Blastic Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Neoplasm To Dermatology., Madison Anzelc, Christina Druskovich, Austin Cusick, Matthew Franklin
Ambulatory and Primary Care Articles
Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare, highly aggressive CD4+ CD56+ hematopoietic malignancy. The cutaneous presentation is variable but often includes violaceous nodules. We present a rare case of BPDCN, which featured dermatological findings consisting of erythematous macules, petechiae, purpura, and a violaceous nodule. A skin biopsy and peripheral blood smear supported a diagnosis of BPDCN. With BPDCN favoring cutaneous involvement, we urge dermatologists to be aware of the possibility of a BPDCN diagnosis in patients who present with purpuric nodules and petechial skin findings, especially when it is not easily explainable by another pathology or medication.

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
This paper explores the critical role of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in ensuring the security of electronic transactions, particularly in validating the authenticity of websites in online environments. Traditional Centralised PKIs (CPKIs) relying on Certificate Authorities (CAs) face a significant drawback due to their susceptibility to a single point of failure. To address this concern, Decentralised PKIs (DPKIs) have emerged as an alternative. However, both centralised and decentralised approaches encounter specific challenges. Researchers have made several attempts using blockchain-based PKI, which implements a reward and punishment mechanism to enhance the security of traditional PKI. Most of the attempts are focused …
