Barriers To School Belonging Using Bronfenbrenner And Crt: A Teacher's Perspective, Rebecca Rosa

This qualitative, explanatory case study examined the barriers teachers experience fostering belonging in their students. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems provided a theoretical framework through which the study was organized, while a Critical Race Theory (CRT) lens provided context for how racialized power and structural inequities shaped teachers’ ability to build belonging. The study focused on the experiences of six core subject teachers who worked in a majority-minority, urban charter high school in the Midsouth. Teachers participated in semi-structured interviews, reflecting on their experiences across multiple ecological levels, from classroom practices at a microsystem level to community influences at the macrosystem level. …

The immune system is a remarkably adaptive network, yet it often fails to function optimally due to evasion strategies of pathogens or mutated cells. Many of these evasion strategies involve alterations in protein expression and function. Protein design is an area of computational biology with potential applications in improving protein function and therapeutic protein engineering. This thesis explores methods to enhance immune function and protein design across multiple scales, from molecular engineering of antibody fragments and chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) to cellular immune responses, and computational approaches for protein structure optimization. Glyphosate and Roundup products have become the most used herbicide worldwide. However, previous bans in Europe and recent reversal have caused confusion over their safety. This study aims to investigate the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of Roundup QuickPro and its main ingredient glyphosate using Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. Cytotoxicity was calculated by measuring CHO cell viability with 72 h of exposure to each toxicant. Roundup QuickPro exhibited higher cytotoxicity with LC50 of 511.2 mu g/mL than glyphosate's LC50 of 3389 mu g/mL. Objectives: Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide and is the most diagnosed malignancy among men in Oman. Although it has historically affected older populations, a troubling rise in CRC incidence among younger demographics has emerged in recent years. This study assessed perceived CRC risk, beliefs, and awareness among Omani adults and identified sociodemographic predictors to inform culturally tailored prevention strategies. A growing number of contemporary film critics, influencers, and audiences criticize film remaking, a tested and successful Hollywood practice. The main complaints are a lack of originality, overreliance on repeated titles, and an openly commercial nature. Despite criticism, film remakes have existed for decades and are a vivid and resilient form of recycling under new cultural and geopolitical circumstances. Contemporary film remaking reflects the impacts of globalization, transnationalization, and the rapid development of new media and digitalization.

Nineteen genomic regions have been associated with high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). We meta-analyzed >22 million variants for 398,238 women from the Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium (OCAC), UK Biobank (UKBB) and Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/BRCA2 (CIMBA) to identify novel HGSOC susceptibility loci. Eight novel variants were associated with HGSOC risk. An interesting discovery biologically was TP53 3’-UTR SNP rs78378222-T’s association with HGSOC (per-T-allele relative risk (RR) = 1.44, 95% CI:1.28–1.62, P = 1.76 × 10−9). Axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel) is an autologous anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy approved for relapsed/refractory (R/R) follicular lymphoma (FL). Here, we report updated clinical outcomes from ZUMA-5 in 159 enrolled patients with R/R indolent non-Hodgkin lymphoma (iNHL; 127 with FL and 31 with marginal zone lymphoma) after a median follow-up of 64.6 months. Patients underwent leukapheresis and received lymphodepleting chemotherapy and axi-cel (2 × 106 CAR T cells/kg). The overall response rate was 90% (75% complete response rate). Theory of Mind (ToM)—the ability to infer others’ mental states—is fundamental to social cognition. Social categorization, the grouping of individuals into in-group or out-group categories, shapes these inferences. These processes co-occur during facial perception, with recent research suggesting both shared neurocognitive mechanisms and modulation of ToM by social category cues. However, existing tools for studying the impact of racial diversity on social cognition are limited: some databases prioritize racial representation but restrict stimuli to the six basic emotions, while others broaden mental state diversity but lack diversity in social appearance.Here we introduce the McGill Diverse Face Database, a validated set …

The advent of single cell DNA sequencing revealed astonishing dynamics of genomic variability, but failed at characterizing smaller to mid size variants that on the germline level have a profound impact. In this work we discover previously uncharacterized genomic dynamics in 18 cells from three human brains utilizing single cell long-read whole genome sequencing. This provides key insights into the dynamic of the genomes of individual cells and further highlights brain specific activity of transposable elements, but requires validation in larger studies.

In Adam McKay’s 2021 satirical sci-fi movie Don’t Look Up, two astronomers discover a comet heading directly toward Earth. Despite overwhelming evidence and near-certainty of global extinction, their warnings are ignored and ridiculed. This paper discusses the mathematical and scientific foundations of the movie’s social and political reception, and specifically focuses on orbital prediction and probabilistic modeling as they relate to public understanding of risk. This paper shows how data is often undermined by political and social dynamics, by connecting the fictional events of the movie with real-world crises like the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate emergency. The study aimed to examine the effect of supportive language training activities for bilingual children, who were attending state primary schools in Turkey, on their language skills and reading levels. To this end, one group pre-test and post-test experimental design from quantitative methods was used. 10 primary school children aged 6 to 9 years were selected on a voluntary basis by the Migration Services Centre of Kecioren Municipality in Ankara. Text-based communication systems often lead to misinterpretation of a message because the emotional context is lost. A recipient may infer a sender’s sentiment based solely on the text, leading to misunderstandings. This disclosure describes a method to supplement text messages (or other communications) with representations of the sender’s inferred sentiment, captured during composition. The technique involves collecting multi-modal biological information from the sender, such as facial expressions, gaze, and gestures, using sensors on the composing device. Introduction/Significance: A record-high 653,104 people experienced homelessness with 39.3 percent unsheltered in 2023. This is more than a 12.1 percent increase over the 2022. Homelessness is an important societal problem. Mental illness, adverse childhood experiences, and substance use are serious issues among people with homelessness.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the predictors of psychological well-being, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and depression among people with homelessness.

Objectives: Corticosteroid agonists of the glucocorticoid receptor are a mainstay of therapeutics for pro-inflammatory conditions. Vamorolone is a novel partial agonist that is differentiated from the other members of the corticosteroid class by non-metabolism by 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases, antagonism of the mineralocorticoid receptor, and differential co-factor binding. Our objective was to define the pharmacodynamic response of serum proteins to vamorolone. Methods: Clinical trial participants with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (4 to < 7 yr; n = 39; mean [SD] age = 5.3 [1.0]) enrolled in a multiple ascending dose study of vamorolone were studied (24-fold dose range). Dose-response and exposure–response of 1,305 serum proteins were defined by intra-subject longitudinal changes (baseline vs. Day 14). Results: Dose-response analysis identified 159 of 1,305 serum proteins as dose-responsive to vamorolone (12 % of proteins tested; 20 % increased, 80 % decreased). Two inflammatory networks showed drug-responsive suppression. One centered on extracellular serine proteases and lymphotoxins (PI3, KLK7, KLK8, KLK11, lympho-toxins A, B) converging on NFκB. The second centered on cytokines (CCL22/MDC, CCL21, CCL14, CXCL12) and IL23 signaling. In the IL23 network, acutely responsive anti-inflammatory proteins included increases of an inhibitor of IL17 signaling (IL17RC) and decreases of IL23 (IL12B:IL23A). A protein associated with resistance to environmental microbes, PTP1C, showed strong induction and is a novel candidate for aspects of corticosteroid efficacy. Two networks of cell-associated proteins were identified as drug responsive that may represent muscle tissue response (efficacy): connective tissue remodeling upstream of Notch signaling, and plasma membrane proteins impinging on AKT1 signaling. Conclusion: The serum proteome pharmacodynamics of the response to vamorolone was defined.

Filth-breeding flies pose significant health risks and costs in the equine industry. Although an arsenal of management strategies exists, integrated pest management (IPM) utilizing biological control (BC) offers cost and labor efficient pest control for equine facilities. Yet, little data exists on IPM adoption across the equine industry in the United States. This quantitative study examines the knowledge, perceptions, and adoption of IPM of those involved in the equine industry. Findings reveal knowledge barriers and time constraints as major preventatives. Preferred communication channels for IPM information are also identified.
