Faculty Motivation For Online Teaching And Learning, Elizabeth Sachiko Haas Greene
Faculty Motivation For Online Teaching And Learning, Elizabeth Sachiko Haas Greene
Dissertations
The study will examine which factors predict faculty motivation in online learning. Additionally, the study will investigate the relationship between faculty perceptions of online learning and overall online teaching and learning and the relationships that exist between perceptions of administrative support and self-efficacy for online learning. The study's findings will provide insight into how institutions can support faculty teaching in the growing online modality. The overarching method for this study is a nonexperimental quantitative study. This method will collect numerical data that can be used to measure various aspects of behavior, including attitudes (Drew et al., 2014). The study's participants …
The Lived Experiences Of Physical Therapy Educators During Ethics Instruction, Erin Simunds Pt
The Lived Experiences Of Physical Therapy Educators During Ethics Instruction, Erin Simunds Pt
Doctorate in Education
Physical therapy educators must prepare students to navigate the ethical complexity and pressures of clinical practice. However, limited evidence exists regarding the best pedagogical strategies to develop future clinicians' ethical skills. This study aimed to explore how physical therapy ethics educators integrated their personal and professional experiences with academic elements when designing and implementing ethics instruction. The research draws from the semi-structured interviews of eight educators teaching ethics in Midwestern physical therapy programs to discover instructional patterns supporting student engagement with the content. Participants' narratives specified how curriculum design considerations, critical thinking dispositions, and organizational alignment factors influenced their approach …
Predictors Of Psychologists’ Self-Reported Knowledge And Self-Perceived Competence In Treating Transgender Clients, Tara N. Bennett
Predictors Of Psychologists’ Self-Reported Knowledge And Self-Perceived Competence In Treating Transgender Clients, Tara N. Bennett
PCOM Psychology Dissertations
It has been widely recognized that transgender (trans) and gender nonconforming (TGNC) populations face significantly greater rates of depression, anxiety, substance use, and suicidality than the general population. Despite these risks, little research has analyzed how psychologists are prepared to provide culturally competent therapy to trans clients or what predicts competence in treating this population. This study aimed to identify what factors predict psychologists’ selfperceived knowledge and self-perceived competence in working with trans clients. The study’s secondary aim was to collect information about how psychologists receive education related to trans clients. This study employed a correlational research design to examine …

Anatomical Literacy And Body Mapping In Flute Performance: Strategies For Addressing And Preventing Upper Extremity Injuries, Lauren E. Wiedemer
Theses and Dissertations--Music
This document investigates the benefits of incorporating the study of anatomy and Body Mapping into flute performance, specifically focusing on addressing and preventing injuries related to the upper extremities. As the physical demands on musicians continue to grow, this research advocates for recognizing flutists as "musical athletes.” It highlights the importance of anatomical literacy and somatic awareness in sustaining performance longevity. The practical applications of Body Mapping are explored in detail and presents strategies for alleviating strain and fostering ease of movement, supported by research and experiential insights. Pedagogical recommendations are offered to integrate these principles into flute instruction, helping …

A Qualitative Study Exploring Best Practices And Applications Of Green, Eco, And Environmental Social Work In Canadian Social Work Practice, Ryley Kristanne Kowalski
A Qualitative Study Exploring Best Practices And Applications Of Green, Eco, And Environmental Social Work In Canadian Social Work Practice, Ryley Kristanne Kowalski
Theses and Dissertations
Humanity and society are deeply connected to nature and the environment at their core. Through processes of colonization, the Industrial Revolution, urbanization, consumerism, and capitalism, people and societies have become increasingly disconnected from the natural environment. Introduced as a helping profession through the Industrial Revolution, social work began rooted in environment but quickly changed to understand human and societal wellbeing through the narrow scope of the social environment through the person-in-environment approach. Modern day issues of climate change, environmental degradation, environmental racism, and environmental justice movements have necessitated social work’s increased understanding of the natural environment. The purpose of this …

Harming To Healing: Exploring Harm Reduction In Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Treatment, Athena Lewin
Scripps Senior Theses
Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) is a maladaptive behavior that impacts individuals from all backgrounds, yet existing interventions often neglect harm reduction tactics that may enhance treatment outcomes. This study presents a quasi-experimental design to assess the effectiveness of harm reduction education when combined with a dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) based and motivational interviewing (MI) based counseling for young women (ages 18-26) who meet the criteria for Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Disorder (NSSID). Participants will be randomly assigned to either a control group receiving only DBT/MI based therapy or an experimental group receiving both the DBT/MI based therapy and harm reduction education, which will …

A Discussion Of Positioning Theory: An Interview With Michael Bamberg And Luk Van Langenhove, Pasi Hirvonen, Michael Bamberg, Luk Van Langenhove, Bo Allesøe Christensen
Psychology
Since 2015 a Positioning Theory conference has been held biannually in either Europe or the US. These conferences have become a significant event for scholars and practitioners interested in the development and application of PT providing thereby a platform for discussing the latest research, sharing insights, and fostering collaborations. In the fourth edition of the conference, organised in Finland in July 2024, Professor Van Langenhove and Professor Bamberg both provided keynotes and Pasi Hirvonen and Bo Allesøe Christensen seized the opportunity of engaging both in an interview discussing their insights, contributions and personal thoughts about PT and its history. © …

Stellate Ganglion Block Effectiveness For Ptsd, Anxiety, And Depression In Psychiatric Outpatients: A Retrospective Analysis, Edina Wede Carr
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The prevalences of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and major depressive disorder (MDD) have risen significantly in recent years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. Many individuals remain symptomatic despite conventional treatments, highlighting the need for novel, integrative interventions. Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB), a procedure targeting the cervical sympathetic chain to modulate the autonomic nervous system, has emerged as a promising therapy for treatment-resistant psychiatric symptoms. Evaluating data from the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), this retrospective study examined the clinical outcomes of PTSD, anxiety, and depression symptoms from …
Trauma-Informed Judicial Practice Meets Therapeutic Jurisprudence: Compassionate Written Judgments In Child Protection Cases, Shelley Kierstead
Trauma-Informed Judicial Practice Meets Therapeutic Jurisprudence: Compassionate Written Judgments In Child Protection Cases, Shelley Kierstead
All Papers
Society has become acutely aware that trauma arises from many life events and manifests in a range of physical and psychological symptoms. The legal community is increasingly recognizing that clients living with trauma effects would be much better served with trauma-informed services. While much of the emerging literature in the legal field focuses on lawyers’ work, there is growing recognition that judges can also play a role in responding effectively to trauma.
In child protection cases, trauma frequently exists at different yet related levels – for the child who is the subject of protection proceedings, and for one or more …

Prosecuting Families, Anna Arons
Prosecuting Families, Anna Arons
Faculty Publications
Hundreds of thousands of parents are prosecuted in the family regulation system each year. Their cases are investigated by family regulation agencies and prosecuted by lawyers employed by the government—family regulation prosecutors. Like police and prosecutors in the criminal legal system, this family regulation prosecutorial team wields immense power, particularly over race–class subjugated communities. Yet even as scholarship on criminal prosecutors and on the family regulation system has proliferated, the role of family regulation prosecutors has gone underexamined and undertheorized.
This Article offers a critical examination of the role of these family regulation prosecutors. Drawing on a variety of primary …

Queers, Closets, And Corporate Governance, Darren Rosenblum
Queers, Closets, And Corporate Governance, Darren Rosenblum
Faculty Publications
The past few years have seen several corporate diversity initiatives that include Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+) people. In 2020, Nasdaq, the world’s second-largest stock exchange, and California, the largest state, both adopted rules to encourage board diversity for underrepresented groups, including LGBTQ+ people. Since that time, the Los Angeles Superior Court struck down California’s law, the Fifth Circuit invalidated Nasdaq’s rule, and the Trump administration initiated a slew of anti-Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and anti-LGBTQ+ measures. In the context of this sharp ideological turn, this Article attempts to step back and tackle a larger question: how can …

Examining The Adjustment, Acculturation, And Well-Being Of International Arab Students In The United States: Implications For Policy And Practice, Hassan A A Kh A A Arab
Wayne State University Dissertations
This paper explored Arab international students studying in the United States to see whether they face acculturation stress, adjustment, or well-being issues. I found that my sample (N=95) experienced moderately high well-being distress and acculturative stress. However, the sample showed resilience and positive adjustment in all aspects, psychological (M=34.7), social (M=38.5), and academic (M=37.4). Moreover, well-being score from a modified GHQ survey came with high SD, indicating some students were dealing with serious mental issues, while others were doing well (M=42.92, SD=5.52). The majority of my participants were males (74.7%), single (75.8%), and graduate students (50.5%). Chi-square analysis found a …
Talking About Cancer And Tobacco (Tact) Study With Lgbtq Patients And Their Care Providers, William Bowling
Talking About Cancer And Tobacco (Tact) Study With Lgbtq Patients And Their Care Providers, William Bowling
Theses and Dissertations--Psychology
Due to multilevel factors, including a high prevalence of tobacco use, the burden of some cancers is disproportionately higher in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community than the general population. Evidence-based tobacco treatment delivery with high rates of tobacco cessation would be a powerful tool for secondary cancer prevention in the LGBTQ community, yet few studies have explored this issue. The current study aimed to 1) uncover both positive and negative aspects related to the lived experience and treatment of LGBTQ cancer survivors who use tobacco, 2) elucidate barriers and facilitators of tobacco treatment and cessation, and …
