Importance Of Library Metrics And Effective Methods Of Communication With Provosts, Katy Zane Jan 2025

Importance Of Library Metrics And Effective Methods Of Communication With Provosts, Katy Zane

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Provosts and librarians share a common goal of needing to measure library activity in such a way that appropriately conveys how it contributes to the institution’s campus initiatives and strategic planning. The goal of this research was to determine how best to analyze these activities through agreed upon metrics and preferred communication styles. By combining the two aspects of analytical metrics and communication methods, this research would provide a common ground that both provosts and librarians could build upon for the future growth and development of the library.

This chapter describes how the Bilingualism, Biculturalism, and Biliteracy (B3) Institute at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) developed the B3 Scholar Seal. Since its founding, UTRGV has provided a rare example of dual language education at the university level, offering courses taught bilingually or in Spanish across diverse disciplines. However, the language of these courses was not formally recognized upon graduation. The B3 Institute developed the B3 Scholar Seal to acknowledge students who successfully complete five courses, including at least three courses taught in Spanish or bilingually and at least one course, including culturally sustaining pedagogy. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nutrition knowledge and dietary behavior while controlling for academic major, year, and gender among Division III student-athletes. Sufficient nutrition is essential for athletic performance, injury reduction, and overall health. However, student-athletes face unique challenges that can disrupt optimal nutrition, including poor nutrition knowledge and access to available resources. While several studies have examined the relationship between nutrition knowledge and dietary behavior, no known studies have addressed this among Division III student-athletes. This non-experimental correlational study examined dietary behavior using the Rapid Eating and Activity Assessment for Participants (REAP-S) and …

The Literary Field: Agriculture And The Ecological Imagination In The Nineteenth-Century French Novel, Abigail Fields Jan 2025

The Literary Field: Agriculture And The Ecological Imagination In The Nineteenth-Century French Novel, Abigail Fields

Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Dissertations

The Literary Field: Agriculture and the Ecological Imagination in the Nineteenth-Century French Novel argues that notions of the farmer and land developed their modern meanings in France in the nineteenth century. Ideas about agriculture fed into the formation of an environmental imaginary and vice versa, resulting in the co-construction of these concepts. To build this case, I develop a method I call agro-ecocriticism, which draws on literary criticism, materialist cultural studies, and ecology to identify flows of agricultural thought and actors within forms of cultural production. Particularly important in this reading method is a new attention to setting. In my …

Unbound, Candice Avery Jan 2025

Unbound, Candice Avery

National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Journal

“UNBOUND" is a poetic declaration of rebellion against the societal mold that has long defined girlhood by its politeness, passivity, and prettiness. Drawing from personal reflection and maternal conviction, the poem offers a raw and resonant portrait of a mother raising a daughter to be bold, unfiltered, and unapologetic. Where previous generations were taught to shrink, this daughter is being taught to expand. The piece challenges inherited norms and celebrates a fiery voice that refuses to be quieted. Often performed as the opening to my #GirlDrama mentorship presentation, this poem disrupts comfort in favor of truth. It is both a …

Experiences Of Young Adults With Mild To Moderate Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities In Transition Programs, Marjorie Cortico Ramirez

JWU Dissertations & Theses

Difficulties with socialization, obtaining employment, dependency on family, altered levels of stress, and community integration are factors that significantly challenge young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) upon exiting high school, and participating in transition programs (Athamanah et al., 2020; Biggs & Carter, 2016; Foley et al., 2012; Butterworth et al., 2011; Zhang et al., 2023). Transition programs offer young adults ages 18-22 an opportunity to obtain the life skills and vocational training needed to better prepare them for employment, social interactions, and independent living (Curtis et al., 2009). Literature on post- school transition focuses on elevating the voices …

Partner Performance Evaluation, Disclosure Of Key Audit Matters, And Audit Quality, Shenghua Chen

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

Transparency of information and audit quality are crucial for the efficiency and stability of the market. The disclosure of key audit matters has become an essential part of audit reports, yet there remains widespread debate regarding the role of key audit matters. This study finds a significant positive correlation between the extent of key audit matter disclosures and audit quality. Detailed disclosures can enhance information transparency, strengthen auditors’ sense of responsibility, and reduce information asymmetry. However, over-templating may have negative effects on audit quality, leading to a lack of personalized judgment by auditors. Additionally, this paper suggests that the partner …

Using inductive thematic analysis, this study explained how discursive contestation was manifested in commenters' opposing views about the institution's use of memes. The discourse historical approach elucidated how comments drew upon contextual factors, such as: (1) the humorous and juvenile nature of memes; (2) current events and Europe's role in them; and (3) erroneous understandings about the EU's structure and capabilities. In terms of its contribution to the academic literature, this commentary article's focus on memes as a form of government communication …

European Digital Diplomacy And The Sino-Philippine Territorial Disputes In The South China Sea, Manuel R. Enverga Jan 2025

European Digital Diplomacy And The Sino-Philippine Territorial Disputes In The South China Sea, Manuel R. Enverga

European Studies Department Faculty Publications

This chapter examines the digital diplomatic articulations produced by European states about the Sino-Philippine territorial disputes in the South China Sea. Using social media data from the official accounts of diplomatic missions in the Philippines, this chapter presents data showing that European countries did not engage in concerted action with regard to the conflict between the Philippine and Chinese governments. It is argued that the heterogeneity in their online activities can be explained by the imperative to balance a complex set of priorities, including alignment with the post-World War II rules-based international order or their preference not to antagonize the …

Analysis Of Safety Investment : Economic Benefit In Arctic Shipping To Shipping Companies And The Arctic Coastal States, Junjie Wan

World Maritime University Ph.D. Dissertations

Global warming severely affects the Arctic region, including ice coverage and thickness. In contrast, it allows unprecedented navigation opportunities for more extended periods each year, attracting maritime stakeholders because of the potential distance reduction compared to shipping corridor routes. However, mitigating Arctic navigation hazards requires safety investments, especially from shipowners and Arctic coastal states. When allocating limited resources to safety, decision-makers should efficiently prioritize their investments. This research aims to determine how to optimize shipping companies and Arctic coastal states’ safety investments. It begins with a comprehensive analysis of safety investments and safety economic benefits in Arctic shipping. Then, an …
