Biofilm-Associated Infections: Mechanisms Of Formation, Resistance, And Emerging Therapeutic Strategies With Special Focus On Biofilm Inhibitors, Karem Ibrahem
Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Medical Sciences
Biofilms are complex, structured microbial communities enclosed within a self-produced extracellular matrix. This matrix allows them to adhere to a variety of surfaces, including medical devices and human tissues. The formation of biofilms poses a significant challenge in clinical settings due to their inherent resistance to antibiotics and to host immune defenses, thereby contributing to the persistence and chronicity of infections. In recent years, considerable attention has been directed towards the development of biofilm inhibitors as a promising therapeutic strategy to prevent biofilm formation, disrupt established biofilms, and enhance the susceptibility of biofilm-embedded bacteria to conventional antibiotics. The aim of …

Lost In Ambiguity: Ai And The Limits Of Processing Turkish Morphology, Engin Evrim Önem
Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences
Despite rapid progress in natural language processing, artificial intelligence (AI) systems continue to struggle with languages characterized by high morphological complexity, such as Turkish. A central difficulty lies in their limited ability to resolve ambiguity, which is deeply embedded in Turkish through features like flexible word order, extensive case marking, and agglutinative structures. Current AI models, primarily shaped by exposure to massive corpora of performance data, excel at detecting surface-level statistical regularities but fall short of grasping the grammatical principles and semantic nuances that underpin genuine linguistic competence. This reliance on performance over competence makes disambiguation especially problematic, as the …

Urban Form Beyond Density: Shape Compactness Matters, Galuh Anisa Putri, Ahmad Gamal
CSID Journal of Infrastructure Development
Urban compactness has traditionally been measured through density, with population per area used as a core indicator of urban form. However, this method creates a limited view of what compactness means. Research shows that a compact city is not always a high-density city, and that increasing density does not automatically result in compact development. Compactness also involves the shape and structure of urban footprints, which influence how land is used and how a city functions. This paper presents a conceptual distinction between density and shape compactness, arguing that both are necessary to understand urban form. A qualitative literature review was …
