Sustainable Enterprise Architecture: Embedding Circular Economy And Lifecycle Thinking In It Strategy, Sai Chandrahas Kaveripakam, Frank Lin

Communications of the IIMA

This paper explores the integration of sustainability into traditional Enterprise Architecture (EA), proposing a novel Sustainable Enterprise Architecture (SEA) model, and uses the fashion industry to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed model. The SEA framework systematically embeds environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles into corporate strategy and operational practices. This research also addresses the significant intention-action gaps among consumers and organizations in sustainability practice. Through vivid case examples, such as MUD Jeans' leasing model and Pact's affordable circular apparel, this research highlights practical pathways for operationalizing sustainability. By leveraging Circular Economy (CE) and Product Life Cycle (PLC) concepts, SEA …

Influence Of Leadership Styles Upon Staff Well-Being: Strategies To Create A Healthy Work Environment, Alice Kohler, Kenn M. Kirksey, Stacie Marion

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Background: Nurses comprise the largest segment of healthcare and are essential to the mission of creating a healthy work environment (Haddah, Annamaraju, & Toney-Butler, 2022). Global shortages have endangered nursing care delivery effectiveness and exacerbated nurses' stress, burnout and intent to leave their jobs (Tamata, Mohammadnezhad, & Tamani, 2021). Contributing factors include: 1) staff shortages; 2) workload; 3) no advancement opportunities; 4) physical and psychological job-associated risks; and 5) lack of leadership support (Tamata, Mohammadnezhad, & Tamani, 2021). Exploitive leadership styles often result in psychological detachment among direct reports (Majeed & Fatima, 2020). Researchers have inferred that management styles have …

Organizational Memories Of Extreme Events: Evidence From Us Public Transit Agencies, Mattia Caldarulo, Ignacio Pezo, Elizabeth A. Corley, Shaika L. Islam, Eric W. Welch Oct 2025

Organizational Memories Of Extreme Events: Evidence From Us Public Transit Agencies, Mattia Caldarulo, Ignacio Pezo, Elizabeth A. Corley, Shaika L. Islam, Eric W. Welch

Articles

The increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events require organizations to effectively manage the threats these phenomena pose. To respond to these challenges, public agencies often turn to their organizational memories for guidance. Organizational memories support information processing capacity, facilitate sensemaking, and legitimize and speed up decision-making processes. While memories influence different aspects of organizational life, little is known about their antecedents and the mechanisms behind the retrieval of past events. This study contributes to the broader literature on organizational memory by investigating the elements shaping public agencies’ retrieval of extreme weather events. Integrating weather data from the National …

Framing Education As A Complex Service System: A Structured And Multidimensional Framework Through The Service Design Lens, Marcelle Feitoza Bassi Costa, Nicola Morelli, Wanqiang Li

ServDes Conference Series

This article explores the application of service design principles to higher education, positioning universities as complex service systems that extend beyond the academic realm. The goal is to propose a structured framework highlighting service design's role in enhancing pedagogical practices, optimizing support systems, and fostering collaborations between universities and society. Through a comparative analysis of existing frameworks, the study identifies commonalities and gaps, creating a positioning matrix that visually represents the relationships. The research identifies four key quadrants: (i) Learning Services, (ii) Services for Learning, (iii) Services for Educational Infrastructure, and (iv) Educational Interaction Services. The findings emphasize that recognizing …

Journey Probe: Uncovering Aspirations Of Early-Career Employees Via Narrated Journeys, Sanandan Ratkal, Simran Patankar Oct 2025

Journey Probe: Uncovering Aspirations Of Early-Career Employees Via Narrated Journeys, Sanandan Ratkal, Simran Patankar

ServDes Conference Series

Narrative mode of thought occurs frequently in the design process. The user research phases of a design lifecycle involve stories of users’ pains and aspirations. Aspirations can be abstract and highly contextual to uncover from conventional user research questions. Using journey maps can be an effective means to elicit user needs. Two designers experiment with journey-map styled worksheets i.e., journey probes as a tool for user research. The experiment was carried out to understand aspirations of early-career employees in a multi-national corporation in information technology services. The paper outlines the learnings gathered from the experiment and its potential as a …

ServDes Conference Series

Service design often aims to create meaningful experiences, while rituals offer ways to structure their symbolic, emotional, and cultural dimensions. Understanding rituals in context can help designers co-create culturally respectful solutions that transcend boundaries. This paper explores how values embedded in wedding rituals can inform the design of more inclusive and meaningful services. Drawing on an international workshop with designers, we used a specially developed template to explore wedding rituals in a multicultural context. The study identified three overarching themes: the end of an era, patriarchy, and future prosperity. The mapping activity supported participants in reflecting on underlying rules, norms, …
