Mobility And Power In Temp Work, Andrew Elmore Dec 2025

Mobility And Power In Temp Work, Andrew Elmore

BYU Law Review

Labor mobility is an underdiscussed determinant of temp worker power. Drawing on original interviews with professional and blue-collar workers who work as and alongside temps, this Article shows how businesses use staffing agencies to restrict the labor mobility of contingent workers. Staffing agencies limit worker mobility by imposing user- and worker-side contractual restraints while misrepresenting themselves to temp workers as their sole employer. They also exploit state-imposed mobility limitations by recruiting foreign nationals and people leaving incarceration and channeling them into their most precarious work. This enables clients to dismantle internal labor markets and to fill staffing shortages without raising …

Did Anderson V. Tiktok Get It Right? Holding Social Media Providers Accountable For Harm To Adolescents, Allison Mitton

BYU Law Review

When dangerous social media challenges go viral and cause harm to adolescents and young children, should the platform be held liable for pushing that content? As it currently stands, Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1934 prevents this from happening. However, Anderson v. TikTok—a recent suit brought on behalf of a ten-year-old girl who died after asphyxiating herself while participating in the viral “Blackout Challenge”—seeks to change that.

The Third Circuit court in Anderson held that social media algorithms should be considered first-party speech, or the platform’s own expressive activity, rather than third-party speech, displaying its users’ expressive …

Problems, Development Paths, And Policy Safeguards Of China’S Scientific And Technological Achievements System, Ping Zhang, Hongjun Geng

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

The transformation of scientific and technological achievements is a crucial link that closely integrates scientific and technological innovation with socio-economic development. It is a key measure in implementing the innovation-driven development strategy, building China into a great power in science and technology, and accelerating the development of new quality productive forces. The new round of sci-tech revolution and industrial transformation and the new situation of international trade frictions have posed new challenges and new logics to China’s scientific and technological achievements transformation system. This study combs through the dominant logic of China’s scientific and technological achievements transformation system under the …

A Modular Design And Construction Framework For Enhancing The Sustainability Of National Housing Projects In Egypt, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat, Farah Ibrahim El Sahzly Dec 2025

A Modular Design And Construction Framework For Enhancing The Sustainability Of National Housing Projects In Egypt, Ayman Ahmed Ezzat, Farah Ibrahim El Sahzly

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Egypt’s national housing sector faces mounting sustainability challenges due to outdated design and construction practices that cause material waste, high costs, and inefficient resource use. This study develops a framework for integrating modular design and construction principles into Egypt’s National Housing Projects (NHPs) to strengthen their social, economic, and environmental sustainability. A mixed-method approach combined a literature review, case studies, and a survey of Egyptian Architectural Design Firms (ADFs). The literature review revealed a global consensus on the benefits of modular design and construction, such as improved efficiency, reduced waste, and faster project delivery, yet found limited adoption in Egypt …

Dialogic Engagement In Scientific Discourse: An Appraisal Analysis Of Discussion Sections By Arab L2 And Native English Writers, Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed Alzahrani

UB Journal for Humanities

The discussion section of a research article is a critical site of persuasion, where writers must strategically negotiate claims, credibility, and collegiality. This study investigates how cultural and linguistic backgrounds shape this delicate rhetorical act by conducting a contrastive analysis of dialogic engagement in scientific discussions. Employing Martin and White’s (2005) Appraisal Theory, specifically the Engagement Framework, the researcher analyzed a specialized corpus of 40 research articles in Molecular Biology and Organic Chemistry, written by Arab L2 and Native English (NE) writers. The analysis reveals a stark, statistically significant divergence in the frequency and distribution of these resources: Arab L2 …

The Distribution And Spatial Suitability Of Industrial Cities In The Riyadh Region And Their Developmental Role In Achieving The Kingdom’S Vision 2030, Maram Mohammad Al Muqataf

UB Journal for Humanities

The study aimed to analyze the distribution and spatial suitability of industrial cities in the Riyadh region and to investigate the geographical factors affecting their location, highlighting their developmental achieving the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. The study employed a combination of analytical and statistical inference methods, supported by research tools, most notably spatial analysis using geographic information systems (ArcGIS). The findings showed that the general pattern of industrial city distribution in the region is clustered. The optimal locations for establishing new industrial cities were also identified within the governorates of Huraymila and Thadig, according to spatial suitability indicators. …

Filling The Gap: Integrating Hiv Into The Counselor Education Curriculum, J. Richelle Joe, Roseina D. Britton, Tiffany Hairston Dec 2025

Filling The Gap: Integrating Hiv Into The Counselor Education Curriculum, J. Richelle Joe, Roseina D. Britton, Tiffany Hairston

Teaching and Supervision in Counseling

People living with HIV (PLWH) are vulnerable to mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders, which in turn, often affect their health outcomes. Multiple, overlapping structural and social determinants of health exacerbate the physical and mental health concerns of PLWH, presenting a need for services that are responsive to the unique implications of the illness. Professional counselors have the potential to provide such services but must be adequately prepared to do so. In response to the lack of HIV-related professional development for counselors and the minimal preparation of counselors-in-training to serve clients with HIV, this article uses …

A Comparison Of White-Light And Monochromatic Led Sources For Antimicrobial Photodynamic Inactivation Of Staphylococcus Aureus, Emily Simmons Dec 2025

A Comparison Of White-Light And Monochromatic Led Sources For Antimicrobial Photodynamic Inactivation Of Staphylococcus Aureus, Emily Simmons

The Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research

Drug-resistant bacteria are an ongoing public health crisis for which alternative treatments are needed. One alternative is antimicrobial photodynamic inactivation (aPDI), which uses potent photosensitizers and light irradiation to damage the bacteria. Our standard light source used in aPDI is a single-wavelength light source at 405-nm; however, we evaluated a white-light source for similarities in the resulting aPDI activities. This is done by comparing aPDI experiments using S. aureus and its methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA) conducted with either the white LED light source or the 405-nm LED light source. Statistical analysis using t-tests revealed no significant differences in the aPDI activities …

Effects Of Alcohol Exposure On Recognition Memory And Marble-Burying Tasks In Male And Female Aged Mice, Roma Kamat, Tori Burke Dec 2025

Effects Of Alcohol Exposure On Recognition Memory And Marble-Burying Tasks In Male And Female Aged Mice, Roma Kamat, Tori Burke

The Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research

Alcohol consumption in aging humans is a risk factor for cognitive impairment. This experiment assessed the effects of binge-like alcohol drinking in aged mice on memory (using the object recognition memory [ORM] task) and on anxiety-and compulsive-like behavior (using the marble-burying task). Subjects were 8 female and 10 male mice, 14–15 months old, selectively bred for low alcohol preference (LAP). Mice consumed either tap water or a 20% alcohol (v/v) solution in tap water through a drinking in the dark (DID) procedure for 4 consecutive days per week, for 3 consecutive weeks. One and 11 days after DID, mice completed …
