Restorative Nostalgia And Religious Nationalism: Lessons From Srebrenica, Noreen Herzfeld
Restorative Nostalgia And Religious Nationalism: Lessons From Srebrenica, Noreen Herzfeld
The Journal of Social Encounters
Svetlana Boym uses the term restorative nostalgia to describe a collective nostalgia, based on an idealization of the past that is used by nationalist groups to motivate their followers. When linked with religion, this type of nostalgia is particularly damaging, frequently leading to sharp ethnic or religious divisions, a demonization of the other, and even war or genocide. The war in Bosnia and Herzegovina presents an example of such nostalgia on the part of the Serbs. An idealization and its resultant rhetoric on the part of Serbian political and religious figures envisioned an imagined future rooted in nostalgia for a …

Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series
This research aims to examine various monetary systems proposed by economists in the literature and evaluate proposals within the Islamic economy for reforming the monetary system. The study concludes that money has increasingly become an end in itself rather than a tool for exchange or a standard for measuring value, leading to disruptions in both local and international monetary systems. Additionally, the dominance of the U.S. dollar as the global currency has contributed to numerous international crises. The Concept Of Maqāṣid Al-Sharī‘Ah And Maṣlaḥah In The Classical And Contemporary Tafsîr, Yusuf Wibisono, Femmy Roeslan
International Journal of Islamic Economics and Business Sustainability
A contemporary mufassir (Qur’anic exegete) employs the principle of al-‘ibrah bi maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah—that interpretation must refer to the objectives of Islamic law—in an effort to uncover the true meaning of the Qur’anic text. A purely literal reading of the Qur’an, without an understanding of its maqāṣid (objectives), faces many limitations. The maqāṣid approach emphasizes not only the wording of the text but also its underlying purposes and goals. The greatest strength of maqāṣid-based tafsīr (interpretation) lies in its ability to render the Qur’an always relevant, adaptable, and universally applicable. As an interpretive approach not strictly tied to …

However, some well-versed scholars dedicated themselves to clarifying the status of these narrations and evaluating their authenticity. One of these scholars was Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir, who examined them closely in his famous work Al-Bidaya wa al-Nihaya (The Beginning and the End), highlighting which narrations were …

French Orientalist Marie-Pierre Valckman (Maryam Abu Al-Dhahab) And Her Story With Imam Hussein (Peace Be Upon Him), Amal Suhail Abd Al-Husseini, Kifah Saber Rashid
NJF Islamic University Journal
In the 19th century, violent colonial military campaigns aimed to control Muslim wealth, lands, and capabilities, leading to the displacement and death of Muslims. Despite this, Muslims resisted, defending their righteous sons and defending their homeland. Europeans believed that the Qur'an, the primary source for instilling the spirit of sacrifice and redemption among Muslims, would prevent them from subjugating them. This belief was based on the belief that Muslims possessed Hussein, a martyr who set an example of sacrifice and redemption. This historical inevitability confirmed the victory of faith over injustice and evil.

Thus, spending aims to instill in Muslims the practice of giving for the sake of their faith and to educate them about the principles of this type of spending. Da’wah to Islam has been associated with calls to spend in the way of Allah to seek His satisfaction and pleasure. Even before the establishment of an Islamic state, or …

Observing the conditions of our Arab and Islamic world, one can recognize that many states are suffering from the agony of internal and external wars, as well as a lack of security and safety. Therefore, in addressing the political crises that sweep through the Muslim world, particularly between rulers and their people, it is essential to resort to the Prophetic approach as a means of navigating the crisis. The Gains Of The Prophets Peace Be Upon Them, Abdel Fattah Al-Samman
The Gains Of The Prophets Peace Be Upon Them, Abdel Fattah Al-Samman
Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series
Allah made the callers for Him not in need of others; therefore, He ordered all His prophets to work. He did not send His messengers to be a burden upon their people or to benefit from their call to Islam. This would keep them distanced from the people and hinder their message. Allah made His prophets a source of livelihood for their people, not the other way around. The fact that prophets worked for their own living serves as a model of hard work and self-sufficiency for those who came after them. One of the notable characteristics of the prophets …
