Standardization Of The Vermicompost For Organic Cultivation Of Andrographis Paniculata (Burm. F.) Wallich Ex Nees, Ranjeet Kumar Yadav, Saurabh Singh, Priya, Geet Govind Sinam, Lal Bahadur
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Wallich ex Nees is an important medicinal plant that belongs to the family Acanthaceae . It has been used to treat many human diseases since ancient times. The pharmaceutical industries accept only organically grown biomass of A. paniculata that is free from contamination. Vermicompost is an important organic manure that is used as an organic source for the cultivation of crops. The experiment aims to find the optimum dose of vermicompost for organic cultivation of A. paniculata. The different doses of the vermicompost, i.e., Control (T1), 2.5 t/ha (T2), 5 t/ha (T …
From Conjugation To Detection: Development Of Lateral Flow Assay For Zearalenone, Vinayak Sharma, Bilal Javed, Hugh J. Byrne, Furong Tian
From Conjugation To Detection: Development Of Lateral Flow Assay For Zearalenone, Vinayak Sharma, Bilal Javed, Hugh J. Byrne, Furong Tian
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
The development of rapid, sensitive and cost-effective lateral flow assays is crucial for the detection of mycotoxins, ideally at the point-of-care level. This study presents the design and optimization of a competitive lateral flow assay based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for the detection of zearalenone in food samples. Beginning with the synthesis and functionalization of gold nanoparticles, it proceeds to compare the immobilization of antibodies using chemical conjugation and physical adsorption binding strategies, upon optimizing parameters including the pH, antibody concentration and blocking conditions to enhance the stability of the prepared bioconjugates. The bioconjugates are characterized using UV–visible absorption spectroscopy …

Development Of Novel Anticancer Pyrazolopyrimidinones Targeting Glioblastoma, Kate Byrne, Natalia Bednarz, Ciara Mcevoy, James Curtin, John C. Stephens, Gemma Kinsella
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive malignant grade IV brain tumour and is one of the most difficult types of brain cancer to treat with a high incidence of resistance to traditionally used chemotherapeutics. Pyrazolopyrimidinones are fused nitrogen-containing heterocyclic systems which are a scaffold in several bioactive drugs and drug candidates. Here, a structure activity relationship (SAR) study was performed where 23 substituted pyrazolo[1,5-α]pyrimidinones were screened for cytotoxicity against the GBM U-251 MG cell line and the non-cancerous embryonic kidney HEK293 cell line to assess their potential as anti-glioblastoma agents capable of selectivity for cancer cells. Through analogue …

The interactions between magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) and bio-surfaces have impacted key industries such as food, biomedicine, water purification, and agriculture. Bacteria, with their diverse bio-surfaces, offer potential for such interactions. Yet, there is a paucity of research interpreting the dynamics behind bacteria–nanoparticle interactions. Advancing this knowledge could improve the industrial applications. Current research gaps include information about the magnetic nanoparticle-assisted concentration dependence of Bacillus cereus and determination of the rate of bacterial extraction by MNPs such as iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs). Using magnetic IONPs as the choice of MNP, this study aimed to investigate in vitro the interactions between model …

Ultrasound-Assisted Sequential Processing Of Barley Straw Using Binary Acidic And Hydrated Ternary Deep Eutectic Solvents For Nanocellulose Production, Dileswar Pradhan, Swarna Jaiswal, Brijesh K. Tiwari, Amit K. Jaiswal
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
This study aimed to valorise barley straw by using a binary acidic deep eutectic solvent (DES) made from choline chloride and lactic acid for biomass pretreatment, and a hydrated ternary DES (HDES) composed of betaine, oxalic acid, and water (BOW HDES) for downstream processing to produce nanocellulose. The ultrasound-assisted DES pretreatment significantly enhanced lignin and hemicellulose solubilisation, achieving an average lignin removal of 70.54 % and hemicellulose solubilisation of 69.58 % under optimal conditions. Purification of US-DES-treated solid residue resulted in a cellulose yield of 39.81 ± 1.47 % with a purity of 91.31 ± 0.93 %, comparable to or …
