The Legal Debate: Corner Crossing And Public Land Access, Kaden Leverenz Jan 2025

The Legal Debate: Corner Crossing And Public Land Access, Kaden Leverenz

Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts

Is it legal to cross from one corner of public land to an adjacent corner of public land across checkerboarded landscapes in the American West? This question regarding corner crossing has become one of the most prominent and unresolved issues in public land access. Although federal courts in Iron Bar Holdings v. Cape (2025) confirmed corner crossing, without touching or damaging private land, does not constitute trespass, the legal landscape still remains unsettled. Public land users play a significant role in shaping the direction of this issue, as demonstrated by past public mobilizations against large-scale land sell-offs. Therefore, this paper …

Balancing Timber Harvest And Biodiversity: Impacts Of Selective Logging On Wildlife In The Chiquibul Forest Reserve, Belize, Kilynn Groen

Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts

Selective logging is often promoted as a sustainable forestry practice that maintains biodiversity and ecosystem function, yet its ecological consequences remain under examined, particularly in tropical forests. This study investigates how selective logging affects wildlife communities in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, Belize. Using remote camera trap data from 22 sites (9 unlogged forest sites and 13 logged (stump) sites), we assessed species richness, trophic structure, and environmental predictors of wildlife abundance. While overall wildlife captures and species richness did not differ significantly between forest and stump habitats, principal component analysis revealed strong community-level separation, with stump habitats supporting distinct species …

The Impact Of Trauma-Informed Teaching In A Middle School Classroom, Kathleen M. Wittig

All Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Student trauma has become more prevalent in the classroom setting since the COVID-19 pandemic. More and more schools are adopting a trauma-informed/sensitive approach to teaching to serve the growing number of students with trauma in the classroom. Educators are finding themselves faced with more emotional and behavioral issues in the classroom, teacher burnout is increasing daily, and more students are being referred to special education. It is not that these students are bad kids; rather, it is that they lack certain skills to allow them to be successful. Instead of trying to change the child, educators need to look at …

Background:

As the number of individuals diagnosed with dementia continues to grow, collective caregiving capacity is simultaneously declining. As a result, caregivers often face significant stress and burnout, which negatively impacts both their well-being and the quality of care they are able to provide. To address these challenges, various forms of technology have been developed to support caregiving responsibilities for people with dementia. Barriers to widespread adoption include the cost of technology, lack of caregiver training, limited awareness of available solutions, privacy and ethical concerns, and resistance to change from both caregivers and care recipients. By identifying these key insights, …

The Relationship Between Motor Abilities And Cultural Factors In Autistic Children, Lindsey Marie Anderson Jan 2025

The Relationship Between Motor Abilities And Cultural Factors In Autistic Children, Lindsey Marie Anderson

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

Autism and motor abilities have been found to be closely related. Culture affects motor development as well as the various diagnostic criteria for an autism diagnosis, yet it is rarely considered in research and in diagnostics. This study aimed to explore the relationship between cultural factors, the social characteristics of autism, and motor abilities in autistic and non-autistic children by utilizing a demographic survey, the SRS-2, and the MABC-2 Balance subtest. The information and scores were analyzed to determine if the relationship between autism characteristics still stands when cultural factors are considered, and to determine which cultural factors mediate the …

Results of an exploratory factor analysis from a sample of 212 school psychology graduate stu- dents revealed a four-factor structure: (a) program …

Two Americas, Across Two Americas: A Comparative Analysis Of Indigenous Law In The United States And Guatemala, Thomas Jiwon Lynch Jan 2025

Two Americas, Across Two Americas: A Comparative Analysis Of Indigenous Law In The United States And Guatemala, Thomas Jiwon Lynch

Emory International Law Review Recent Developments

The United States and Guatemala are home to some of the largest indigenous populations on earth. They are also home to some of the worst transgressions against these peoples. Though superficially distinct, the two states share the same violent colonial history and their differing approaches to modern indigenous rights both miss the mark. The question is why. Is it because US judges routinely misinterpret existing case law? Because the rule of law is weaker in Guatemala? Or is there something far more deeply rooted in each state’s shared history that prevents true recognition of indigenous rights? This paper attempts to …

Comparative Federalism In The Us And The Eu — The Winemaker's Legal Perspective, Clement Xu

Emory International Law Review Recent Developments

In our lives, many of us will intersect with wine at some point, be it an aged bordeaux presented in elaborate fashion, or a box of nondescript cooler doled out at a backyard cookout. Beyond analyzing a wine for the complexity of its bouquet, or the strength of its tannins, the wine market as a whole beckons a nuanced study from the perspective of comparative law. The radical differences in business models, consumer base, and even expectations, between the “old world” and the “new world” give rise to a number of topics ranging from authenticity, legal protection, and government regulatory …

Medieval Misinformation And Disinformation: Filling A Gap In Medieval Studies, Kristin B. Leaman

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

Misinformation and disinformation are well-known terms that bring a plethora of topics to mind, such as fake news, conspiracy theories, social media, economic inequity, power imbalances, social justice, confirmation bias, political polarization, and/or health information within a more modern/contemporary context. While it is no secret that mis/disinformation have been present in our societies for centuries, it is not an area that has been fully examined in Medieval Studies. This article argues that the lack of scholarship on medieval mis/disinformation stems from a gap in the medieval studies curriculum and provides solutions to this problem, including a brief outline of a …
