Models For Implementing Testing And Treating Latent Tuberculosis Infections Among The Vulnerable Populations, Janmejaya Samal, Arnab Mondal

Indian Journal of Health Sciences and Biomedical Research KLEU

The Indian national tuberculosis (TB) prevalence survey conducted during 2019–2021 revealed a 31% TB infection (TBI) burden among individuals above 15 years of age. India has an ambitious plan of eliminating TB by 2025, 5 years ahead of the global agenda, thus focusing on the burden of TBI and management of TBI with TB preventive treatment (TPT) is of utmost importance in achieving the same. States in India adopt different models of implementation of testing and treating the TBI. Some of the states select subcontracting agencies to provide end-to-end TPT and some do adopt the in-house mechanism using the existing …

From Petrostate To Precedent: The Impact Of Held V. Montana On Future Climate Litigation And The Urgent Need For Federal Climate Action, Hailey Rizzo

Ocean and Coastal Law Journal

In 1972, Montana, a prominent petrostate, amended its constitution to enshrine the inalienable right to a clean and healthful environment. After decades of fossil fuel production and consumption, which led to high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, this green amendment became the foundation of Held v. Montana--the first youth-led constitutional climate case to prevail against a petrostate. This Article illustrates the importance of Held for the plaintiffs in the case, for current and future residents of the state, and for plaintiffs in future climate change litigation. This Article also urges the federal government to provide an avenue for redress for …

Commentary On Blaser's "Antibiotic Use And Its Consequences For The Normal Microbiome", Fred C. Tenover Jul 2025

Commentary On Blaser's "Antibiotic Use And Its Consequences For The Normal Microbiome", Fred C. Tenover

AMR Commentary

If you have not read this eye-opening commentary by Dr. Martin Blaser about the negative impact of the widespread use of antibiotics in children, you should. The goal of giving antibiotics to children usually is to treat an infection — an earache, a respiratory tract infection, or perhaps a potentially deadly bloodstream infection. Those antibiotics, however, will often kill more than just the bacteria that are causing the infection. Humans have large quantities of “good bacteria” in our intestinal tracts, on our skin, and elsewhere on our body that play an important role in keeping us healthy.

When applying the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (null hypothesis t = 0, no change) to the series of environmental stewardship action questions “___ is …

Immigration Federalism In The Second Trump Administration, Stella Burch Elias Jul 2025

Immigration Federalism In The Second Trump Administration, Stella Burch Elias

Articles

This Article explores the ongoing transformation of state and local engagement in immigration-related rulemaking in the United States during the Second Trump Administration. The Article examines the myriad ways in which federal executive actions and state responses to those actions, alongside independent state actions and the federal government’s responses to those actions, are upending longestablished immigration law doctrines and shifting the borders of American federalism. The Article discusses legal scholars’ previous understanding of immigration federalism, embodied in United States v. Arizona, and the prior distinctions between permissible “alienage” laws and impermissible “immigration” laws, which could not be introduced by state …

Reluctant Transitions: Place And Post-Extraction Politics In Southeastern Ohio, Jenna Lynn Haver Jul 2025

Reluctant Transitions: Place And Post-Extraction Politics In Southeastern Ohio, Jenna Lynn Haver

Theses and Dissertations

Based on a summer of ethnographic research in a subsection of Appalachian Ohio colloquially referred to as “The Valley,” this research challenges three narratives of this place that formulate a harmful Appalachian imaginary. The first narrative of industrycontrolled coal heritage is complicated by the way local people negotiate control over their own stories of coal and its existence outside of industry domain. The second narrative characterizes this as a space of extraction which is in tension with different social relations to varying types of energy – especially the discontinuity of the coal to fracking shift. The third narrative centers of …

Through mixed-methods action research, I explored participants’ perspectives on community, civic engagement, and their involvement in both spheres. A community of inquiry framework was the foundation for my research questions, and as I collected data, I launched an intervention based upon my findings. Although the results of this study were not statistically significant and are not generalizable, I collected a wealth of survey, interview, and reflection data from 48 students across two classes. Analysis grounded in my observations …

A Spatial Scan Statistic For Group Testing Data, Vincent Onyame Jul 2025

A Spatial Scan Statistic For Group Testing Data, Vincent Onyame

Theses and Dissertations

Group testing involves pooling specimens from multiple individuals and offers an efficient means to surveil low-prevalence pathogens, but poses challenges for spatial cluster detection when only pooled results are observed. In this thesis, we develop a spatial scan statistic tailored to group-testing data with variable pool sizes. The statistic compares a null hypothesis of a homogeneous infection rate across all clusters to an alternative hypothesis that infection probabilities differ inside and outside a candidate cluster, with both models fitted by maximum likelihood estimation. We approximate the null distribution of the maximum likelihood ratio test via Monte Carlo simulation.
