QPIE, SUBSTRATE COHERENCE, AND THE END OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DECOHERENCE

Humanity stands at an inflection—an energetic, cognitive, and civilizational hinge—where the old psychological architectures that governed the last ten thousand years are showing their limits. For millennia, societies relied on dualistic sorting mechanisms: good versus evil, winner versus loser, right versus wrong, gifted versus mediocre. These categories simplified administration, myth, and power. But simplicity came at a cost: chronic decoherence, adversarial internal narratives, fragmented social dynamics, and a deep systemic friction that progressively calcified into institutions, economies, and identities.

The newly …

Ml-Based Pre-Transaction Nfc Application Prediction, Ahmad Rahmati, Roshan Pius, Amol Tuli Dec 2025

Ml-Based Pre-Transaction Nfc Application Prediction, Ahmad Rahmati, Roshan Pius, Amol Tuli

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a system and method for predicting a user's intended Near Field Communication (NFC) use case before a complete NFC transaction occurs. Unlike existing reactive NFC systems that rely on Application ID (AID) acquisition during a transaction, this system leverages machine learning (ML) models trained with diverse contextual data to anticipate the AID and further disambiguate between multiple use cases or applications for the same AID. This pre-transaction prediction enhances user experience and efficiency by reducing friction, saving time, reducing risk of accidental payments, and enabling seamless and intuitive NFC interactions, such as automatically presenting the correct pass …

Developing Digital Feedback Literacies In Language Teacher Education: Peer And Partnership Approaches In The Postdigital Age, Jennifer Schluer Dec 2025

Developing Digital Feedback Literacies In Language Teacher Education: Peer And Partnership Approaches In The Postdigital Age, Jennifer Schluer

Journal of Media Literacy Education

Critical media literacy needs to be seen as a central component of language teacher education, especially in the postdigital age. One underexplored dimension, however, is digital assessment literacy and in particular digital feedback literacy (Schluer, 2022a). Even though recent years witnessed a proliferation of digital technologies for feedback exchanges, pedagogical guidance for the use of digital feedback remains almost non-existent (but see Schluer, 2022a; 2023; 2024a). Theoretically, this paper connects the concept of Digital Feedback Literacies (DFL) to the frameworks of Critical Media Literacies (CML) and Postdigital Literacies (PDL). Empirically, it presents insights from research on digital peer feedback as …

Journal of Media Literacy Education

This article presents the theoretical and conceptual foundations of the interdisciplinary didactic concept of Fictional Science (FiSci), which is positioned at the interface between media and language didactics. Based on reference concepts such as epistemic vigilance, inoculation, lateral reading, and media literacy in education, FiSci aims to promote secondary school students’ skills in dealing with fake news. While course 1 of FiSci (Activating the Fake News Radar) sensitises students to false information, course 2 (Verification of Information) teaches strategies for identifying false information that are also used by professional fact-checkers, and course 3 (Refutation) focuses on refuting false information.

Fine-Tuning Llama2 For Summarizing Discharge Notes: Evaluating The Role Of Highlighted Information, Mahshad Koohi Habibi Dehkordi, Yehoshua Perl, Fadi P. Deek, Hao Liu

School of Computing Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

This study investigates whether incorporating highlighted information in discharge notes improves the quality of the summaries generated by Large Language Models (LLMs). Specifically, it evaluates the effect of using highlighted versus unhighlighted inputs for fine-tuning LLaMA2-13B model for summarization tasks. We fine-tuned LlaMA2-13B in two variants using MIMIC-IV-Ext-BHC dataset: one variant fine-tuned with the highlighted discharge notes (H-LLaMA), and the other on the same set of notes without highlighting (U-LLaMA). Highlighting was performed automatically using a Cardiology Interface Terminology (CIT) presented in our previous work. H-LLaMA and U-LLaMA were evaluated on a randomly selected test set of 100 discharge notes …

Faculty Publications

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disorder driven by abnormal immune activation that promotes excessive proliferation and accelerated turnover of epidermal keratinocytes. IL-17 and TNF pathways are well known in psoriasis, but the other mechanisms that keep the disease active and link it to systemic comorbidities are not yet fully understood. A combined transcriptomic and systems biology framework was applied to map regulatory circuits in psoriatic lesions and to identify phytochemical candidates capable of multi-target modulation for topical intervention. Differential gene expressions between lesional and healthy skin was analyzed, followed by pathway enrichment, upstream regulator inference, protein-protein interaction network, and chemical-gene …

Background:

Heavy metals, like lead, arsenic, and cadmium, are linked to increased inflammation even in early life; however, anti-inflammatory diets may offset these effects.

Methods:

We evaluated associations between heavy metals and inflammatory biomarkers, and potential effect modification by diet in 399 adolescents aged 10 to 18 at baseline who attended two study visits 2 years apart (773 observations). At baseline, blood lead, urinary arsenic, and cadmium concentrations were measured, and the Children’s Dietary Inflammatory Index (C-DII) was calculated. Fasting serum interleukin (IL)-4, IL-10, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha were measured for both visits. Generalized …
