Mathematics teachers have the power and responsibility to center equity in their teaching practices. Yet their framings and mindsets about equity can impact whether and how they use equitable teaching practices. In this manuscript, we describe how secondary mathematics teacher candidates responded to two equity vignettes focused on (1) gender identity and (2) race and tracking. We wrote these vignettes to expose candidates to situations they may encounter and decisions they may need to make as mathematics teachers. The purpose of this study was to explore the teacher candidates’ beliefs. We use the FAIR Framework and the Educator Mindsets for …

Semi-Supervised Learning For Annotation And Representation Of Single-Cell Rna Sequencing And Spatial Transcriptomics Data, Haoran Liu Dec 2025

Semi-Supervised Learning For Annotation And Representation Of Single-Cell Rna Sequencing And Spatial Transcriptomics Data, Haoran Liu

Dissertations

Semi-supervised learning has emerged as a powerful paradigm for analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptomics (ST) data, where full annotation is often costly or impractical. scRNA-seq technologies measure the expression of thousands of genes across tens of thousands of cells, whereas ST additionally captures the spatial coordinates of gene expression within intact tissue sections. Annotation is a key step in both scRNA-seq and ST analysis pipelines, aiming to identify cell types, spatial domains, and latent biological structures. However, most existing annotation approaches rely on separate clustering methods that are typically fully unsupervised and fail to leverage side information …

Computational Methods For Single-Cell And Multi-Omic Data Integration And Regulatory Network Inference, Jianlan Ren Dec 2025

Computational Methods For Single-Cell And Multi-Omic Data Integration And Regulatory Network Inference, Jianlan Ren

Dissertations

Single-cell and multi-omic technologies have transformed the dissection of cellular heterogeneity and regulatory dynamics in health and disease. However, the high dimensionality, technical variability, and biological complexity of these datasets present significant challenges for integration, annotation, and interpretation. In this dissertation, a suite of computational approaches is introduced to address key problems in single-cell and multi-omic data analysis through model-based innovations and applied statistical frameworks.

First, a constrained deep learning framework for single-cell data integration, label transfer, and clustering is proposed. By incorporating biologically motivated constraints into the training process, robust performance is achieved across simulated and benchmark datasets spanning …

Material Degradation And Analysis Of N-Doped Graphene/Mof Nanocatalysts For Orr In Electrochemical Energy Systems, Niladri Talukder

Dissertations

The development of advanced electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems is crucial for achieving sustainable energy security. As alternatives to precious metal-based catalysts in electrochemical systems, especially for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), Nitrogen-doped Graphene with Metal-organic Frameworks (N-G/MOF) nanocatalysts have shown exceptional promise in recent years. This research advances the understanding of N-G/MOF nanocatalysts by systematically examining their structural features, degradation traits, correlated performance losses, and other aspects related to catalytic activities.

First, nitrogen-doped graphene (N-G) nanocatalysts were thoroughly investigated, resolving their physical properties, the influence of synthesis parameters, molecular-level material structures, and chemical and electronic structural details of …

Optimal Power Flow Control In The Iraqi Power Grid Using Artificial Intelligence Algorithms For Carbon Emission Reduction, Mohammed Shakir Juber Dec 2025

Optimal Power Flow Control In The Iraqi Power Grid Using Artificial Intelligence Algorithms For Carbon Emission Reduction, Mohammed Shakir Juber

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

Iraq’s power sector remains in a protracted and severe crisis characterized by a significant mismatch between supply and demand, high levels of losses during transmission and distribution, as well as an increasing challenge to the resources base being largely unfavourably. These inefficiencies impose heavy costs on the national economy in excess of 40 billion annually and they also reinforce greenhouse gas emissions, and exacerbate environmental issues. To deal with these problems, we proposed in this paper that a new hybrid AI tool should be developed for the solution of multi-objective optimization problem based on purpose Genetic Algorithm (GA) merger with …

Key performance metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, were used for evaluation. The proposed Random Forest model demonstrated superior performance, achieving an accuracy …

Hybrid Experimental–Computational Study On The Energy Absorption Of Graphene Nanoplatelet-Reinforced Sandwich Structures, Hamdan Yousif Hamdan Dec 2025

Hybrid Experimental–Computational Study On The Energy Absorption Of Graphene Nanoplatelet-Reinforced Sandwich Structures, Hamdan Yousif Hamdan

Al-Esraa University College Journal for Engineering Sciences

Background: Sandwich composites are widely used in aerospace, automotive, and marine applications because of their lightweight, stiffness, and strength, but they remain prone to out-of-plane impacts and barely visible impact damage (BVID). Graphene Nanoplatelets (GNPs) have shown strong potential to improve fracture toughness and impact resistance. However, hybrid experimental–computational studies applying such reinforcement are still lacking in developing contexts like Iraq, where practical and accessible solutions are essential. Aims: The study investigates the effect of GNP reinforcement on the low-velocity impact behavior and energy absorption of glass fiber/epoxy sandwich panels with PVC foam and balsa wood cores. Objectives include fabricating …

An Evidence-Based Approach To Fair Use, Clark D. Asay, Cree Jones, Cassidy Mccleary, Stephanie Plamondon Dec 2025

An Evidence-Based Approach To Fair Use, Clark D. Asay, Cree Jones, Cassidy Mccleary, Stephanie Plamondon

Georgia Law Review

Recent Supreme Court cases have opened the door for market effects to play an even more prominent role in copyright law’s fair use defense to copyright infringement. Historically, however, market effect analysis under fair use’s factor four has either been largely speculative or merely a repackaging of analysis done under the first three factors of the fair use defense. We argue that recent developments in data availability and causal estimation in the social sciences enable litigants and courts in many cases to engage in a more fulsome and credible analysis of market effects in fair use cases. As a proof …

The Problem With The Mode Of External Debt Servicing: The Case Of Nigeria, Shehu Tijjani Muhammed

Bullion

This study empirically tested the hypothesis that external debt servicing leads to debt accumulation using Nigeria as case study. The method employed combines logic and debt stock variation analysis. Results indicate that Nigeria has served interest on its external debt only to see its external debt stock increasing confirming the hypothesis. A reform is needed to enable the country retain the domestic income lost to international speculative capital to boost government revenue. A sovereign agency to intermediate between the indebted residents, exporters, and the banking system can be created to solve the problem.
