Confidential, Attestable, And Efficient Inter-Cvm Communication With Arm Cca, Sina Abdollahi, Amir Al Sadi, Marios Kogias, Hamed Haddadi, David Kotz Dec 2025

Confidential, Attestable, And Efficient Inter-Cvm Communication With Arm Cca, Sina Abdollahi, Amir Al Sadi, Marios Kogias, Hamed Haddadi, David Kotz

Other Faculty Materials

Confidential Virtual Machines (CVMs) are increasingly adopted to protect sensitive workloads from privileged adversaries such as the hypervisor. While they provide strong isolation guarantees, existing CVM architectures lack first-class mechanisms for inter-CVM data sharing due to their disjoint memory model, making inter-CVM data exchange a performance bottleneck in compartmentalized or collaborative multi-CVM systems. Under this model, a CVM's accessible memory is either shared with the hypervisor or protected from both the hypervisor and all other CVMs. This design simplifies reasoning about memory ownership; however, it fundamentally precludes plaintext data sharing between CVMs because all inter-CVM communication must pass through hypervisor-accessible …

Internal Control Strategies To Reduce Occupational Fraud In Small Business, Karen Walauskas Dec 2025

Internal Control Strategies To Reduce Occupational Fraud In Small Business, Karen Walauskas

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Small businesses can be at a heightened risk of occupational fraud if their internal control strategies are not effective. This risk is a major concern for small business owners, who might face financial and operational challenges as a result. Grounded in Cressey’s fraud triangle framework, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore effective internal control strategies to reduce the risk of occupational fraud from occurring. Participants were six small business owners in New England who had developed effective internal controls. Data were collected through semistructured interviews and employee handbooks. Through thematic analysis, four themes emerged, including …

Access To Care Barriers To Sacral Neuromodulation Implantation In Adults With Overactive Bladder From Georgia, Tamara Lynn Wojciechowski Dec 2025

Access To Care Barriers To Sacral Neuromodulation Implantation In Adults With Overactive Bladder From Georgia, Tamara Lynn Wojciechowski

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is a safe and physically well-tolerated third-line treatment using an implantable device for the management of overactive bladder syndrome (OAB). Other first- and second-line treatments for OAB are frequently ineffective and often poorly tolerated. SNM implantation appears to be underutilized compared to other third-line treatments even though SNM has been rated more effective in OAB symptom mitigation with fewer side effects. Thus, the purpose of this quantitative correlational cross-sectional study was to explore whether health services factors are barriers to utilizing SNM implantation as the third-line treatment for OAB in adults. Andersen’s behavioral model of health services …

Strategies Property Management Leaders Use To Strengthen Employee Engagement In The Workplace, Angela Hartleigh Dec 2025

Strategies Property Management Leaders Use To Strengthen Employee Engagement In The Workplace, Angela Hartleigh

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Lack of employee engagement presents a significant risk and cost across the property management industry. Property management business leaders are concerned with this challenge because employee engagement directly affects performance efficiency and employee turnover costs. Grounded in the self-determination theory, the purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry was to explore strategies property management leaders use to strengthen employee engagement in the workplace. The participants were six purposefully selected property management business leaders in the United States. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and a review of public industry documents. Through thematic analysis, six themes were identified: (a) communication, (b) mentorship, …

Contests With Ambiguous Prizes, Cary Deck, Aidan Hathaway, Emma Kate Henry, Tigran Melkonyan, Samuel Redinger Dec 2025

Contests With Ambiguous Prizes, Cary Deck, Aidan Hathaway, Emma Kate Henry, Tigran Melkonyan, Samuel Redinger

ESI Working Papers

This paper examines behavior in contests where the prize value is ambiguous. We develop a theoretical model of bidding in a Tullock contest with an ambiguous prize where contestants account for the ambiguity attitude of their rival. Ambiguity affects optimal behavior via two countervailing channels - a direct effect arising from contestants’ ambiguity about the value of the prize and an indirect effect corresponding to the effect of ambiguity on the opponent’s behavior. Using a controlled laboratory experiment, we elicit individual risk and ambiguity attitudes and compare predicted and observed behavior in contests with an ambiguous prize, a risky prize …

Addressing The Ethnic Achievement Gap Through Culturally Relevant Teaching, Arienne Bowman Dec 2025

Addressing The Ethnic Achievement Gap Through Culturally Relevant Teaching, Arienne Bowman

Masters Projects

Schools are meant to provide all students with equal opportunities to achieve academic success in the classroom yet as the student bodies of American schools becomes increasingly diverse, students of color are achieving academic success at lower rates than their peers. This in part may be due to the growing cultural disparity between teachers and students as the majority of teachers are white. By implementing culturally relevant teaching (CRT) teachers will be more prepared to address this cultural disparity and better equipped to create classroom spaces and lessons that better meet the needs of a diverse body of learners. CRT …

Bridging Modalities: Enhancing Multimodal Sentiment Analysis For Social Media Networks, Misbah Ul Hoque Dec 2025

Bridging Modalities: Enhancing Multimodal Sentiment Analysis For Social Media Networks, Misbah Ul Hoque

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) serve as rich sources of textual and visual information, making multimodal sentiment analysis essential for understanding complex human emotions. This dissertation aims to advance multimodal sentiment analysis by improving the semantic alignment and fusion of textual and visual features, thereby enabling more accurate and context-aware sentiment interpretation of social media content.

To address challenges in multimodal integration, this work proposes two complementary MSA approaches. The first approach introduces a similarity-based multi-layer attention neural network (SiMANN) that enhances modality integration through cosine-based similarity fusion and modality-specific attention to emphasize salient features in text and …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients with hypercalcemia (HC) have worse outcomes. HC often involves PTHrP, and the role of HIF-2 is incompletely understood. Leveraging RCC tumorgraft (TG) models of HC, which were characterized by tumor cell autonomous inflamatory/immune signatures, we show that HIF-2 inhibition with PT2399 frequently normalized calcium, downregulated circulating PTHrP and reduced HIF-2 binding to the PTHLH (PTHrP) promoter. Likely contributing to the selective induction of PTHrP in a subset of HIF-2-dependent tumors, the PTHLH locus was generally more accessible in TG(HC). However, PTHLH chromatin accessibility was grossly unaffected by PT2399, unlike elsewhere (including EPO locus in a …

The paper studies a special place of Alaska in the historical imagination of Russian political and church discourse. The status of this particular territory in Russian state worldview – the former “Russian America” – is indicative: it refers to the idea of an unfinished imperial legacy. The research doesn’t touch a main event that included a meeting with US President Donald Trump but an off-schedule meeting with Archbishop Alexei (Trader) …

Protests, Epistemic Injustice, And The Movement For Black Lives, Sofia De Ferrari Dec 2025

Protests, Epistemic Injustice, And The Movement For Black Lives, Sofia De Ferrari

PSU McNair Scholars Online Journal

Epistemic injustice provides a powerful perspective for understanding media narratives of the Movement for Black Lives (#BlackLivesMatter). To understand the media coverage, I draw on Foucauldian theories and critical race theory, as well as accounts of hermeneutical and recognition injustice, which show how “truth” emerges as a product of knowledge/power/resistance. Special attention is given to the question of violence: what is violent and what isn’t? Who gets to decide? What are the consequences? Media narratives favor the status quo and delegitimize social movements which challenge it. This is achieved by prioritizing the voices of officials and law enforcement in coverage …

“Mysterium Tremendum Et Fascinans”: Melian’S And Lúthien’S Numinosity, Alexandra (Oleksandra) Filonenko Dec 2025

“Mysterium Tremendum Et Fascinans”: Melian’S And Lúthien’S Numinosity, Alexandra (Oleksandra) Filonenko

Mythopoeic Society Seminar Proceedings

At the heart of all the positive changes in Middle-earth, and at the starting point for undoing the great evil wrought by male characters (divine or otherwise), are two female characters: Melian the Maia and her daughter Lúthien. They form a kind of mythological complex of mother and daughter goddesses, similar to that of Demeter and Persephone. Melian, as a static, maternal figure, forms a sacred centre of Beleriand to which all in need of protection gravitate, while Lúthien, representing a dynamic principle, can be considered the greatest hero of Tolkien’s Legendarium, performing feats unmatched by any male character. Yet …

Grendel's Mother Talks Back: Contemporary Women's Mythopoeic Revisions, Anna Smol Dec 2025

Grendel's Mother Talks Back: Contemporary Women's Mythopoeic Revisions, Anna Smol

Mythopoeic Society Seminar Proceedings

"Grendel's Mother Talks Back: Contemporary Women's Mythopoeic Revisions" examines how twenty-first-century feminist adaptations and translations examine the significance and point of view of Grendel's Mother, a character from the Old English poem Beowulf. In contrast to past views of Beowulf, especially in J.R.R. Tolkien's influential essay on the poem, these women writers and scholars argue for the central role of Grendel's Mother and give voice to her story. The paper discusses the main features of these adaptations, covering topics of narrative voice, borderlands, violence, and motherhood, and generally questions the concept of monstrosity as applied to Grendel's Mother. The paper …

Sex, The Body, And Learning Gender: Demons In The World Of The Five Gods, Erin E. Mcbrien Dec 2025

Sex, The Body, And Learning Gender: Demons In The World Of The Five Gods, Erin E. Mcbrien

Mythopoeic Society Seminar Proceedings

“Sex, the Body, and Learning Gender” analyzes the relationship between the physical body, sexual orientation, and gender as characterized within Lois McMaster Bujold’s World of the Five Gods series, with a particular emphasis on her Penric and Desdemona novellas. Using the framework of Bussey and Bandura’s social learning theory, and a close reading of Bujold’s text, this paper explores how the demonic characters within this series are an example of gender as a learned concept rather than a biological imperative. This is further developed by examining how the demonic characters both imprint on and contrast against the more societally-bound sorcerers …

Belief After The Death Of King Arthur: Lev Grossman’S Postsecular Portrayal Of Nimue In The Bright Sword, Liz Busby Dec 2025

Belief After The Death Of King Arthur: Lev Grossman’S Postsecular Portrayal Of Nimue In The Bright Sword, Liz Busby

Mythopoeic Society Seminar Proceedings

This paper explores Lev Grossman’s 2024 novel The Bright Sword as a postsecular retelling of the Arthurian legend, focusing on the character of Nimue. Unlike previous modern portrayals that align Nimue with pagan traditions in opposition to Christianity, Grossman presents her as both a practitioner of magic and a sincere Christian believer. Through this duality, Nimue embodies the tensions and contradictions of faith in a postmodern age, where belief persists amid doubt, historical trauma, and religious pluralism. Drawing on postsecular theory, the paper situates Grossman’s work within a broader literary tradition that includes Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon …

Fundamental Fairness Guides The Supreme Court's Criminal Justice Decisions In The 2024-2025 Term, Sharon R. Fairley

ConLawNOW

During the 2024-2025 term, the Supreme Court decided fifteen cases related to the criminal justice system. These cases were brought by criminal defendants seeking post-conviction relief and civil litigants seeking redress for governmental harms arising out of criminal processes. Remarkably, two-thirds of the cases resulted in decisions favoring defendants or civil litigants opposing the government. This Article argues that the pro-defendant outcomes from this term are consistent with a recent trend in the Court’s decisions favoring defendants in these types of cases. The pro-defendant outcomes from the 2024-2025 term generally resulted from the less conservative justices aligning with the liberal …

Structural characterization was conducted in some parts of Ago-Iwoye to better understand the basement formation for engineering, environmental, and mining studies. The ground magnetic geophysical method was employed to analyze the variations and orientation of the magnetic properties within the basement. Ten (10) magnetic profile lines were established, each approximately 200 m in length. Data were collected using a GEMS GSM 19T proton precession magnetometer and its accessories, measuring the total magnetic field intensity with a precision of about ± 0.1 nT. The residual magnetic intensity was calculated from the total magnetic intensity by deducting the International Geomagnetic Reference Field …

Using the usual method of curve matching with the Orellana-Mooney Master curves and 1-D forward modeling with WinResist 1.0TM software, between three to five lithologic units were identified. These include: the topsoil, the lateritic layer, the weathered layer, the fractured layer and the fresh bedrock. The weathered and fractured basement constitutes the main aquifer unit. The depth to the bedrock …

The Impact Of Cumulative Career Experience Of Internal Control Managers On Firms' Efficiency In Different Information Environments, Inkyung Yoon, Hansol Lee, Dongjoon Choi Dec 2025

The Impact Of Cumulative Career Experience Of Internal Control Managers On Firms' Efficiency In Different Information Environments, Inkyung Yoon, Hansol Lee, Dongjoon Choi

Economic and Business Review

This study investigates the effect of internal control (IC) managers' cumulative career experience on the operational efficiency of Korean listed firms between 2018 and 2020. Building on the premise that managers with extensive experience positively influence ICs and the internal information environment, this study hypothesises that cumulative career experience of an IC manager is also positively associated with a firm's operational efficiency. To empirically assess efficiency, this study applies data envelopment analysis (DEA), a nonparametric technique that evaluates relative efficiency based on multiple input and output measures. The results suggest that IC managers with greater cumulative experience significantly enhance a …
